iTunes6 and Quicktime6 will run on OS10.2.8
but Podcasting apparently requires OS10.3.9
(Andrew, are you sure you're receiving podcasts under
Jaguar? And, welcome to Portland!)

Ever After

So you thought that we could live forever
And we could always count on Starbucks coffee
Like we had a choice of where we could live
Or that we knew which way the wind would blow
But as far as I could tell we never did know
The most we ever had was the most we could give
Though we you and me stuck together like toffee
It seems that the future was destined for never

From Joyce through Mcluhan and through Cage
From Oscar the Wilde from the long distant past
We just keep on creaking and spewing and leaking
We just keep on speaking and crapping and reeking
From the depths of despair to the joys of our last

Ray J. is one of my not-so-secret heroes! I really liked How to Draw a
Bunny.

I'm also a Stones fan from back in the day.
They had some nice visual lyrics too, like Goodbye Ruby Tuesday and I see a
red door and I want it to turn black, no colors anymore I want them to turn
black... and the narratives behind Sympathy for the Devil, and the song that
you refer to too.

McLuhan is fascinating. I subscribe to a McLuhan list here at the University
of Toronto, where McLuhan was based. A couple of the list contributors were
also associates and acquaintances of him and provide occasional anecdotes.

I am coming to see him as a major enigma, flashes of brilliance and
outstanding insight punctuated by fragments of incoherence and occasional
lunacy. He was also a fan and peer of John Cage. A very fluxus kind of guy.

FLUXLIST: More PoMo Fun

2006-03-21 Thread Allan Revich

Write an instant postmodern essay. Not
especially convincing for anybody well-read on the topic, but lots of fun in a
fluxus kind of way.

http://www.elsewhere.org/pomo

Allan

Excerpt:

The
characteristic theme of Abians[11] model of dialectic
construction is the difference between class and sexual identity. However,
capitalist theory holds that the raison detre of the writer is
deconstruction, given that Foucaults analysis of semiotic discourse is
valid. The subject is contextualised into a dialectic construction that
includes sexuality as a reality.

In the
works of Stone, a predominant concept is the distinction between figure and
ground. Thus, several sublimations concerning capitalist theory may be
discovered. The subject is interpolated into a dialectic construction that
includes consciousness as a totality.

If one
examines capitalist theory, one is faced with a choice: either reject dialectic
construction or conclude that consensus is a product of the masses. But Lacan
promotes the use of semiotic discourse to attack society. Foucault uses the
term dialectic construction to denote not depatriarchialism per
se, but subdepatriarchialism.

It could
be said that the subject is contextualised into a capitalist theory that
includes reality as a reality. Sartreist existentialism states that sexual
identity, surprisingly, has significance, but only if consciousness is equal to
truth.

Re: FLUXLIST: Direct Links to FLuXial PoDcAst filezzz

2006-03-21 Thread Björn Eriksson
Yeah, that is also a kind of podcast - I mean sending an e-mail with a link
to media file within it - and people downloads it manually. A podcast a bit
more manual than using iPod or other receivers - but anyway. Start to think
that this somewhat what McLuhan meant with the fish not seing the water...

But anyway I still like the Podcast receiving tools. I have been downloading
since 1996 and I think I still have only listened to 10% of it with an
automated downloading function I can make that go down to 5%. But I think
that is good too... it is like going to the library loaning 15 to 20 books
that I know I won't be able to read in time... just the feeling of being
able to listen to whtever get me some satisfaction even if it is only
snippets here and there - like when just turning up pages randomly in
books - and reading a sentence or two - then never read in that book no
more. I like that - too.

At the same time I also like having time to listen, read, look in a pace
that is not stressed by the fact that there is always more to consume. To
walk slow - and register every move and sensation.

Information overflow some might say - but also enjoying the estethics of
information itself. Sorry if this is not so well thought about by me as I
type it down - just contributing to the info overload.

One favourite in that aspect is the Spamradio... www.spamradio.com

Yours,
Björn Eriksson
