The FOP Resources page [1] has many tools which may fit your need.
Among the tools I've spotted there, are the MPL Formatting Objects
Authoring tool[2] and shareware FOEditor[3]. In addition, there's the
html2fo[4], wh2f0[5] and RTF2FO[6].

Please take a look at it, and let us know which tool helped you most.
Thanks! Finally, if you find any other tools in your search (have you
tried http://www.google.com/ ;-)?), would you please report back and
let us know? We're always looking for ways to improve our Resources
page!

The only free tool I know of is FOA (Formatting Objects Author). There are a
couple of commercial products, but none of them are very good. I find them
more of a hinderence than a help, but please judge them for yourself:

I tried XSLFast, it crashed the WHOLE machine (Windows XP) within about
2 minutes of using it. After the reboot and the 2nd crash I gave up on
it. If anyone has had more luck with it I'd be interested in how good it
is.

To add another commercial one (and very expensive, but it has a trial
download with which you can save a few times, so could be enough to get you
started)

There is a free word processor AbiWord (www.abisource.com) which appears to
have a 'save as XSL-FO' plugin. I tried it but the output was a bit broken
- missing close tags, etc.

It's okay for making initial designs, but you can't reverse engineer with it
(reading
hand-made FO templates), and because of that, IMHO, it has no real power.

Making FO

2002-02-12 Thread Aleksei Vassiljev

Hi all

Does anybody know any good tool for
convertingHTML (or rtf, or doc) to FO.
I have tried html2fo, which I had found on
sourceforge.net, but it doesn't understand styles and some tags.
Maybe anybody know a better tool?
