Problem in Conversion from FrameMaker 7.1 files to HTMl help files

2006-08-18 Thread Sulekha Mehta

Hi,

I have used FrameMaker 7.1 and used WebWorks Publisher 6 to convert the
FrameMaker 7.1 files to HTML Help files. The topics and chapters in
the HTML Help files show the page numbers against them, as shown below:

Working with Administrator Console Overview xcv
Adding an application xcvi
Deleting an application c
Adding a database cii

These page numbers in Roman numerals are same as the page numbers appearing
in the FrameMaker 7.1 files.

Can you help me in removing these Roman numerals from the HTML Help files?

Thanks in advance!
Sulekha

RE: Framemaker vs. Flare

2006-08-18 Thread Jon Harvey
I used Flare for several months, starting last November when version 1.0
was still in Beta. I found it to be a viable option to RH. Flare 1.0 has
a few bugs and quirks to it but then so does RH. One thing that
impressed me about the beta testing was that MadCap really encouraged
testers to report bugs, moreso than many software houses I've seen. They
even had a contest for who could report the most. As a result, the
inaugaral product was actually pretty good, although it still had a few
minor problems. If you are looking for a great HAT, Flare 1.0 isn't
there yet and I can't speak for v2.0(scheduled for release next month)
but MadCap seems to be pretty dedicated to make people forget about
RoboHelp. If they continue doing what they are doing, I suspect they are
going to get their wish.

Translate FrameMaker book to Hebrew/Arabic and convert to online help

2006-08-18 Thread Reng, Winfried Dr.
Hi,

probably in the next year we have to translate a
FrameMaker book into Hebrew and Arabic and also
convert the translation into an HTML Help. As FM
cannot handle right-to-left languages I plan this:

1 Convert the FM book to Word with Mif2Go.

2 Get the Word file(s) translated.

3 Convert the translated Word file(s) to HTML Help.

Does anybody know a suitable converter? What about
WebWorks ePublisher Pro für Word? Does anyone use
it already? Can it handle Hebrew or Arabic?

What do you do when you have to translate into
Hebrew or Arabic and convert into an online help?

Thank you very much for your help

I used the Beta of Flare as, at the time, RoboHelp had been 'sun

html/css. The promise of support for DITA in future releases was also
encouraging.

But it's no alternative to Frame!

Of course, now Adobe are making encouraging noises about RoboHelp, so
I'm not in such a hurry to think of an alternative.

Flare Help says it can also output source as MS Word and FrameMaker

My experience so far with the Chm output, RoboHelp project conversion,

When I create a graphic in Adobe Illustrator and I enter the CMYK color
definition of 100,0,76,15, it displays as dark green. When I enter those

a Kelly green. They aren't even close. What is the problem? Why are they

Subject: Color definition problems

Gurus,

When I create a graphic in Adobe Illustrator and I enter the CMYK color
definition of 100,0,76,15, it displays as dark green. When I enter those
same CMYK settings in the Color definition area of Frame, it comes up as
a Kelly green. They aren't even close. What is the problem? Why are they
so different? How do I fix this?

Thanks,

Gillian Flato

Framemaker vs. Flare

2006-08-18 Thread Mark Southee
I used the Beta of Flare as, at the time, RoboHelp had been 'sun setted'
by Macromedia. As a help tool I thought it was good. It's xml based,
which meant no more RoboHelp proprietry kadov tags in the html/css. The
promise of support for DITA in future releases was also encouraging.

But it's no alternative to Frame!

Of course, now Adobe are making encouraging noises about RoboHelp, so
I'm not in such a hurry to think of an alternative.

merging two documents

2006-08-18 Thread Lori Lake
Hi Everyone,

I have two versions of the same document FrameMaker 7. I would like to
incorporate changes in both documents (books) into a new document.
I read about 'comparing books', but could not figure out how to create a
'new' document that included the changes from both documents.

Any help is appreciated.

Problem in Conversion from FrameMaker 7.1 files to HTMl help files

2006-08-18 Thread Brian Weis
Hi Sulekha:

Are the page numbers showing up in the actual topics, or in the HTML
Help TOC? I guess that depends in how your source doc is written.
But I am guessing that your headings do not have page numbers.

If you are dealing with a TOC issue, I think you have to check your
WebWorks template, preferences, voodoo widget, whatever. IIRC (and
there is every chance that I recall *nothing* correctly), there is a
WebWorks configuration that tells it to either ignore the TOC page (in
the source doc).

The other option is to supress page numbers, which is a WebWorks
configuration at the template level. Something that tells Webworks
"ignore all instances of '(page xx)' when generating Help files."

I wish I could be of more help. But I have not used WebWorks for a
while, and I do not currently have access to my old conversion
template or the documentation.

automatically get rid of character tag in text?

2006-08-18 Thread st...@siliconprairiesoftware.com
You might want to try Character Tools. It would let you re-map the tag in
question to the Default Paragraph Format.

You can download it from:

Translate FrameMaker book to Hebrew/Arabic and convert to onlinehelp

2006-08-18 Thread Martinek, Carla
One of the translation companies I work with has managed to hack FM to
work right-to-left. Currently they are translating and DTPing some of
my content into Arabic. (Have not done Hebrew yet). We haven't needed
to push the Arabic into HTML help yet, so I don't know if that will work
or not. Their staff should be able to tell you more.

Contact me offlist if you want more details.

merging two documents

2006-08-18 Thread Ridder, Fred
It happens automatically. Open the older file and the newer file.
With the newer file in the active window, invoke the Utilities >
Compare Documents command. Choose the Summary and
Composite Documents option and run the comparison. The
result will be a new document window that has the name of
the newer file with a "COMP" suffix, and it will contain all the
content of both documents. Content that appears in the older
document and not the newer one will be tagged with an new
condition tag called Deleted, and the content that appears in
the newer file but not the older one will be tagged with the
Added condition.

My recommendation for the next step is to review all of the
tagged chunks to see if they can be made unconditional or
whether you need to delete something to make the text
read correctly. Once you've reviewed all the additions and
deletions, you can use the Edit Condition Tag button in the
Conditional Text dialog to delete the Deleted and Added
conditions, making the text unconditional in the process.

My opinions only; I don't speak for Intel.

PDF - OT

2006-08-18 Thread Diana Stock
Hello all,

I have a question about copying and pasting lines and circles drawn in a
PDF - using the Acrobat Drawing tools.

I would like to select them and transfer to another PDF (revision) but
when I do, the selection on the clipboard rotates on the new PDF.
(rotates clockwise in the pasting process). The original file's layout
is portrait and never has been rotated. Sounds silly to ask, but I have
an instructor that marks up books (PDF) and uses the PDF as a
presentation in a classroom. The book (PDF) is pretty big and he doesn't
what to take the time to redraw the artwork.

Anyone care to comment why the copy and paste gets rotated and how to
fix it?
