Another approach is to use Frame Below and Frame Above for the paragraph

Conditional Text Question

2007-07-09 Thread Sam Beard
Hello All,

I have a document that uses conditional text to delineate between two
different versions of the same basic product. Before I started this,
there were two separate books for each manual, even though there is a
LOT of cross-over text between them that is the same. I combined them
into a single set of master files and am marking the conditional text,
hiding what I don't want to see, and saving the resulting file for the
two separate books. Now, I have three files for each chapter of the
book: Master, Version 1, and Version 2. All well and good. However, I
also have ALL of the text in all three files, albeit Version 1's text is
hidden in Version 2, and vice-versa. Is there a way to permanently
remove the text for Version 1 from Version 2, and vice-versa, while
maintaining the master file? One of the reasons I need to do this is to
remove the borders around cells in a table that are conditionalized.
Currently, there are large colored borders around any table cells that
are marked as conditional.

I'm on Windows XP with Frame 7.2b144.

   Thanks much in advance!

There are no built-in options for multiple Find parameters.

With respect to multiple text items, there is a Super Find plug-in ($50)

I haven't used it myself, but know a couple of satisfied users.

I suggest looking at the Adobe site for regional trainers, however your
choice in training companies should not be dictated by proximity alone.

Of course, we do on-site training around the country.
(We are based in San Diego, CA.)
If interested, please contact me for additional information.

Table formatting

On a reference page, create a text frame and insert an
empty anchor paragraph at the top. Then, create the
customized table below the anchor paragraph. If the
first column contains the word "Note" (or a note
icon), put that in the first column. Once all that is
done, you simply copy the table (including the anchor
paragraph), and paste it anywhere it's needed within
the document.

Paragraph numbering issue

2007-07-09 Thread William Abernathy
All: I'm having a difficult time finessing this one, and I think I need someone
to help me come at it from a different angle. I have chapterwise paragraph
numbers that I want to reset on every chapter break, and I have a set of
requirement numbers that I want to sustain across chapter boundaries. Hence:

...
Section 5.10.6
blah blah
Requirement 47: Thou shalt Foo

Chapter 6

Section 6-1
blah-blah
Requirement 48: Thou shalt Bar

The problem is that I still end up with:

Section 6-1
blah-blah
Requirement 1: Thou shalt Bar

The current Heading p-tags are: C:<$chapnum>..< =0>< =0>< =0>< =0>< =0>\t
(for Heading1, outputting "N.1 [Section Title]" and resetting all subheadings
in the C: series). At the chapter break, the Chapter title P-tag resets the
entire series with C:<$chapnum>.< =0>< =0>< =0>< =0>< =0>< =0>.

The current Requirement p-tag is: R:Requirement

I have set the paragraph numbering properties to continue paragraph numbering
from chapter to chapter, under the theory that the C: series will be reset by
the chapter title regardless. Nonetheless, the R: series doggedly resets at the
chapter breaks. As things stand, I'm having to cook up a fudge p-tag setting at
the chapter breaks, which is obviously unacceptable.

What am I doing wrong?

Training

2007-07-09 Thread Holwell, Pat
I took RoboHelp training at Digitrain in Addison. It's a certified Adobe
training center & wasn't extremely impressed, but thought they did
pretty well. I trained at their site, but they also conduct training at
your location.

I took my FrameMaker training from a certified Adobe trainer and thought
she did an excellent job, but I don't have her name & number handy. If
you'd like for me to locate the info, please contact me off-list & I'll
see what I can do.

Thanks!

Pat

Haven't tested it, but that sounds right.

*Where* did you set the numbering properties? The settings made
from the book file override those made from the chapter file.
Sounds like the book could be resetting the paragraph numbering.

Conditional Text Question

2007-07-09 Thread Miriam Lezak
Sam:

If you conditionalize the whole row, that row should disappear when you turn
the condition off. The colored borders indicate that you've correctly
conditionalized it (rather than just conditionalizing the text within the
border).

If that doesn't make sense, let me know.

Miriam
