Save as PDF hangs FrameMaker 11, with PDF cover art

2013-03-06 Thread Shelly Schneider
I have cover art using a PDF file. The cover bleeds on all edges. I have
been using this from at least Frame 7 up through Frame 10, with no issues.
My company purchased FrameMaker 11 and Acrobat Pro 11 for a new 64 bit
computer. Frame hangs when I try to Save as PDF or print to .ps using the
Adobe PDF printer, both with the latest updates. A one-page frame file with
just the cover will hang. Other, smaller pdfs sprinkled throughout my docs
cause no problems. If I replace the cover art with a jpg or png file, I can
make a pdf, but the quality is not the same.

I reported this to Adobe support, and they worked with me for a while, but
they were unable to reproduce the problem, so that was no help. Has anyone
else had this problem and found a solution that won't require me to replace
the cover art in all my docs?

I finally found that I can save the cover art as eps with a preview, and get
an excellent quality pdf using the eps art. Yay! And the preview prevents
Frame from displaying eps files as those off-putting gray boxes, so I'll use
that if necessary.

Thank you!!

Shelly Schneider

Distiller changes page sizes at will

2013-03-06 Thread rebecca officer
Hi Tom

Have you tried importing the page settings from chapter 9 into chapters 2-8?

Cheers
Rebecca

>>> Thomas Scalise  6/03/13 08:08 >>>

Esteemed colleagues,

I am running FrameMaker 10 and Adobe Distiller 11 on WIN 7 Professional. I have
a simple manual with a Title Page, a TOC, and 11 chapters. The manual is in A4
size. I have created, and use, Distiller job options for the A4 page size.

When I make a PDF ( using Save as PDF), the Title page, the TOC, and Chapters
1, 9 10, and 11 all format correctly. Chapters 2-8, however, format with the
top of the page trimmed off (the page size reverts to 8.5 X 11). The same thing
happens if I Print the manual to a postscript file and run the Distiller
against that file.

I should say that using the same Distiller settings against another A4 manual,
the results are completely correct. No shorter pages in the PDF.

Has anyone faced this problem? I have not seen it before, and I have made PDFs
from many A4 size manuals. It looks as though starting with Chapter 2 the page
size is changed in the Distiller to 8.5 X 11 and then changed back to A4
starting with Chapter 9. Is there something that I have inadvertently done in
those chapters that is causing this Distiller behavior? To my knowledge I have
done nothing different in FrameMaker than I have done before in creating a
manual (nothing I am aware of, at any rate).

I came here rather than going to the Adobe forums, which are byzantine in
access and glacial in pace. Thanks is advance for any help you can give.

Tom

Windows 8 Frame 11 Icon Display Issue (touch screen)

2013-03-06 Thread Oran Petersen
I just loaded TCS4 on a new Surface Pro with Win 8. (touch screen of course)
Frame 11 Icons and the drop-downs associated with them are all pixelated,
jumbled and unusable.
This includes everything at the top and bottom of the screen, and all tool
bars.
The main menu items and dialog boxes are OK.
F11 is not functional with this issue.
No sure if this is a Win 8 thing, a Surface Graphics Adapter thing or a Frame
11 thing.
All other programs work OK. Only F11 is impacted.
Anyone have any experience with this, or have suggestions?

RW Rules vs EDD Conflict

2013-03-06 Thread Lisa Freeman
Many thanks to Ian and Scott for your suggestions, but unfortunately this is
still not working for me. I've tried both methods below as well as every
combination of the two I could think of.

After pouring through all the reference material I have, I am still stumped on
this. Does anyone else have any ideas where my disconnect is?

>From Scott Prentice:

Try changing your rules to this (don't need the "Graphic" in the first rule) ..

element "Graphic"
{
is fm graphic element;
fm property entity value is "illus";
}

Hi Lisa,
I think you have misunderstood the rules a little. So try this:

element "Graphic"
{
is fm graphic element "Graphic";
attribute "illus" is fm property entity;
}

This will work if the "illus" attribute is defined as type ENTITY in the DTD.
In your EDD remove the attribute definition for "illus". This will not be
needed in the FrameMaker environment because the read/write rule is converting
the XML attribute into a FrameMaker property. The type mismatch was because the
attribute was defined as an Integer in the EDD.

If the DTD does not define "illus" as ENTITY, then use this rule instead:
attribute "illus" is fm property file;

That's all from memory, so I hope it all works for you.

Subject: RW Rules vs EDD Conflict

Hello All,

I am working a project using FrameMaker 8.0p277.

I have a conflict between my Read-Write Rules and my template (my EDD, I
presume) that has me stumped. When I do a check of my rules I get the following
error:

"Type mismatch for the FrameMaker element (Graphic). The type defined by the
read/write rules is different from that defined by the template."

The link takes me to the "is fm graphic element" statement below.

My rules are:

element "Graphic"

{

is fm graphic element "Graphic";

fm property entity value is "illus";

}

And I have the following defined in my EDD:

Element (Graphic): Graphic
Attribute list
Name: illus  Integer Required
Initial graphic element format
In all contexts.
Insert imported graphic file.

Am I missing something that is totally obvious to anyone?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Sincerely,

FW: RW Rules vs EDD Conflict - Solved

2013-03-06 Thread Lisa Freeman
I'm not sure why this fixed my EDD/RW rules conflict but it did.

I changed my RW rules from:

is fm graphic element "Graphic";

to:

is fm graphic element "GRAPHIC";

This got it past the conflict error. I did a search on all the files concerned
and it is not in all caps anywhere else that I can find.

I still don't have a valid XML file due to my table definitions apparently
being a "hot mess" but it's progress!

Thanks for everyone's help. This list is a plethora of knowledge. I sure know
where to go for answers if I can't figure out my table issues.
