Access - Frame - pdf. Help with a (fun) project, maybe?

2013-05-26 Thread Theresa de Valence

Hi Framers,

I have an Access database which holds records for a crime fiction story,
collaboratively written by a number of authors. On a repeating basis, I
need to publish this story in a form which I can then attach to a
website so that readers (and the collaborating authors) can see how the
story is doing. Originally I posted each author as webpage using basic
html, unremarkably named Chapter X, but now I’m moving the story
around, so I would like to maintain the story in only one place, i.e. in
the Access database.

I am unable to use any of Access’ tools for exporting to XML or Text or
Excel and import into either Word or Frame. (They all fail). I am able
to export directly from an Access report to a pdf but this has the
disadvantage that I manually have to add Bookmarks, etc., so I am
thinking of getting the data into Frame and then using MicroType’s
Frame-to-Acrobat tools.

The story itself is in BookComponent.StoryText. The order of the
BookComponents is goverened by BookComponent.Sortnum.

Any advice?

Thanks,
Theresa

P.S. In case you happen to like crime fiction, we’ve got some great (and
famous) authors, so please visit our story:

RE: Page Count and Numbering Properties Not Working?

2013-05-26 Thread William W. Saylor, PE
I have had a similar problem from time to time with FM10. I have found that
after setting each chapter that forcing a book update seems to grind
through and make things work. It also identifies some other errors that have
to be fixed before continuing.

Subject: Page Count and Numbering Properties Not Working?

From time to time, files whose pagination was set to Delete Empty Pages have
inexplicably changed to Make Page Count Even, resulting in an extra blank
page at the end of any file with an odd number of pages. This hasn't
happened in a long time--maybe not since I installed FM11--but it reared its
ugly head again today.

Also, changing the Numbering Properties setting to Continue Numbering from
Previous Page in Book doesn't work at all. Not only doesn't the book
renumber on update (despite an alert telling me that book numbers and
document numbers don't agree so Frame is going to use book numbers--at least
that's what I think it means), but on next view the radio button for this
option is deselected and the one for manual page number entry is
re-selected. (Yes, I'm certain I selected the right radio button, clicked
Set, and saved each file before this happened.)

Seems odd that pagination is not behaving on two counts at the same time.

Thanks for any help.

Re: Unavailable font in BOOK file (not in book's files) (Mark Lehmann)

2013-05-26 Thread Mark
Hi Mark,

How're things?

All normal, except for the crash when trying to save as .mif.

To answer your questions:
 - Yes, you should be easily able to save as .mif. That is rarely a problem.
Feel free to e-mail it to me without graphics if you like.

 - Remember Missing Font Names is installation wide.
Opening, clicking OK to reformat with available fonts and then saving FM
files with Remember Missing Font Names OFF means that the substitutions are
permanent in the files saved. If the font becomes available (either by
installation or by file transfer to a system with the font available), those
files will not use the file, but the font substituted (if available :-).

 - Information in Book file
During book updates, the book file itself is updated with details from the
files.
This includes tags (paragraph, font, conditional text, colo(u)r view
settings and definitions, and a whole lot more.

Don't hesitate to contact me directly - I enjoy a challenge.

Cheers,
Mark

The Font is not available message appears when I open a particular
book file ? repeat, book file only. (Then when I then open the book
 file's files, they all open cleanly.) [FM10, Win7 SP3]
Any ideas about how to fix this (apart from creating a new book file)?

I've tried saving the book file as a MIF, but FrameMaker crashes when I
 click the Save button.

 Also:
? Should I be able to save a book file as a MIF (so that I can rummage
 around in it)?
? Is Remember Missing Font Names specific to the individual file, or
to the FM installation? (I need to distribute this book file.)
? I thought only Numbering and Pagination information was saved in a
book file; now it seems that font information is in there as well. What
else is saved in a book file?

I bought Framemaker 10 with a download - no CD - how do I reinstall with "no" CD

2013-05-26 Thread Dave Jacobi
I have all the information from purchase.

Or, how do I buy a CD now?

I will have to rebuild my computer to get rid of a problem.

Thanks

Dave Jacobi

Access -> Frame -> pdf. Help with a (fun) project, maybe?

2013-05-26 Thread Theresa de Valence
We seem to have succeeded, er, partly.

Is it possible for Frame to import a HTML document? (The import function
doesn't give that choice). If I drag and drop the document onto Firefox,
the html opens. Then I can copy and paste into Frame. Seems a bit
cumbersome.

Thanks.
