Re: Scripting issues

Steve, have a look at AutoHotkey (http://www.autohotkey.com/). I have
no personal experience with it but a newsletter that I subscribe to
(http://webserver.computoredge.com/) has a weekly feature on it. If
you search the newsletter's archives for "autohotkey" you'll find
dozens of articles that will help you decide if it might be the right
tool for you. It is free, but the author of the newsletter has
written several inexpensive user manuals on it.

Frame has a number of sample scripts it ships with. If you install the one
for MIF washing, it will save all the files in the book.
This is a book-level utility, and you'll find it up in the toolbar under
Book Utilities once you've installed it (and you have the book open and in
focus).

I can give you some good recommendations.

I know there must be an easier way to do this. We have a translation agency
that doesn't want to spring for FM12 upgrades to be compatible with the FM12
docs that we create. For what we pay them every year... (but that's another
story). Instead, they want us to convert everything to MIF (MIF12 seems to work
for them).

This isn't a really big deal, but it would seem like there must be an easier
way to save the FM12 files as MIF12 files without having to open each file and
save it individually.

Suggestions, please.

Yves' e-mail about scripting has reminded me of something I need advice
about.

Until quite recently I was using the ancient FrameMaker 7 for Mac. Over many
years of working with it I had developed a series of custom toolbars and
macros for cutting the workload of book production, using QuickKeys, a Mac
macro utility.

FrameMaker for Mac has now gone, as has QuickKeys for that matter, and I am
now working with FrameMaker 12 in Parallels. This leaves me without some
important but pretty simple automation, for example inserting
'' and so on into index markers.

Can anyone recommend a Windows text macro tool that could fill this gap?

Please note that I am not talking about automating FrameMaker with either of
the (at least?) two powerful methods now available, I am only talking about
simple text manipulation and user interface short-cuts. QuickKeys could cut,
paste and inject text and invoke menu commands, which is all I'm after.

Any advice welcome.

Re: Script to change a paratag based on the autonumber format

2015-03-06 Thread Scott Prentice

OK .. couldn't resist. Try this ..

var doc = app.ActiveDoc;
// these para tags must already exist
var pgfFormat1 = doc.GetNamedObject(Constants.FO_PgfFmt, "listitem1");
var pgfFormat2 = doc.GetNamedObject(Constants.FO_PgfFmt, "listitem2");

if ((!pgfFormat1.ObjectValid()) || (!pgfFormat2.ObjectValid())) {
alert("Para tags must exist!");
}
else
{
var pgf = doc.MainFlowInDoc.FirstTextFrameInFlow.FirstPgf;

while(pgf.ObjectValid() == true)
{
var autonum = pgf.AutoNumString + "";
if (autonum.length > 0) {
if (autonum.substring(0, 3) == "•\\t") {
var props = pgfFormat1.GetProps();
pgf.SetProps(props);
}
else if (autonum.substring(0, 3) == "o\\t") {
var props = pgfFormat2.GetProps();
pgf.SetProps(props);
}
}
pgf = pgf.NextPgfInFlow;
}
}

- iterate each paragraph in the document
- check the autonumber format value ..
- if autonum string starts with "•\t" .. assign the "listitem1" para tag
- if autonum string starts with "o\t" .. assign the "listitem2" para tag

This should actually be pretty simple .. I just can't do it right now.
