I ran the first fix provided this morning. After running this first fix, the

version for both installations is now set to 10.0.2.

For my client's virtual PC, I ran the first fix simply so I could open FM

and determine the version. After the first fix, it was 10.0.1 so I ran the

version of the second fix (the one for FM 1.0.1) for this virtual PC. During

the running of the second fix, flyover text opens that states something

about installing 10.0.3 of FM (note the .3); however, after running this

second fix, the version of FM on the laptop now is set to 10.0.2 - So, it's

not .3 and somehow, the first fix got me to .2 even though it took two fixes

to get my client's PC to that.

I give and I don't want to take the chance of screwing something up by

running a not needed second fix - as per Brad Anderson's email just a few

moments ago.

It's like Russian roulette with FM fixes right about now.

Dear Anjaneai,

Is there a solution yet?

As Shlomo, I tried your suggested solution 1 and 2 without success. Again,

just like Shlomo, I don't want to try solution 3.

Just as a note: simply setting the date back to 2012 makes the license issue

disappear. But this is something I can do as I have admin rights on my PC.

What can I do for all my colleagues that are getting back from holidays

today, need Framemaker 10 and don't have admin rights??

Happy New Year to all Framers!

Interesting ... thanks for the response, Richard!

And I don't know about all of you all, but I strongly, *strongly* want any such
"special plumbing" to be functional in the standalone purchased versions of
FrameMaker and Acrobat Pro. (I simply don't want to get onto the much more
costly TCS purchase/upgrade path - I do *not* need the other tools in that
product and do not want to pay for them - I have enough trouble justifying my
FrameMaker purchases now that the upgrade prices have gone up so much in the
past few years.)

I *do* want the integration between FrameMaker and Acrobat Pro to be as
good/perfect as possible. That is why I continue to justify, buy and upgrade
the [expensive] Adobe Acrobat Pro product rather than just live with one of the
many inexpensive "PDF printer" solutions that are available - heck, as I
recall, one such PDF printer is included in my "PDF Convertor Pro" software
(which I currently only use to convert from PDF to Word and Excel files).

Since I always have to perform some common manual actions every time I generate
a PDF (since not everything "comes across" from FrameMaker), if the integration
could be better, then that is important to me!

Harpreet, can you please provide me with Adobe's response and position here?
What are the exact differences and why are they not in the stand-alone
versions? Can Adobe release an update (perhaps a "connector" program similar to
what is in TCS) for people who own FrameMaker *and* Acrobat Pro, but don't own
TCS? Shouldn't this standard in the Acrobat Pro package for it to install this
integration if a copy of FrameMaker is also installed on the system?

Hi Deanna,

One need not change the FrameMaker files manually, but one can import the

them. Pls. refer to this blog

Hi,

We are migrating from FrameMaker 7.2 to FrameMaker 11. In our current workflow,
we create a PDF file and use Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional to enable
commenting in it so that reviewers who don't have FrameMaker can electronically
review and comment on our FrameMaker documents. We then merge the electronic
comments into the PDF file and manually change the FrameMaker files accordingly.

For FrameMaker 11, Adobe advertises, "Collaborate with PDF-based roundtrip
reviews." I've searched, but I can't find how these types of reviews are
implemented. Can you briefly explain how this feature works? Mainly I want to
know if we need to purchase Adobe Acrobat Professional X to retain our ability
to solicit electronic reviews from reviewers who don't have FrameMaker or if
the need for Acrobat Professional is eliminated by this feature in FrameMaker
11.

Thanks,

Deanna.

finding copied graphics

In FrameMaker 9.0, one can use View->Pods->Insets to view a list of graphics

Do you have a way to find copied graphics in a framemaker file?

Hi Oran,

Regarding your points,

1. I cannot get the Paragraph Formatting tool bar Tab icons to work. On
earlier versions I could drag them onto the ruler to add new tabs. While
I can move existing tabs on the ruler, I cannot seem to add new with the
icons. The tab icons seem inoperative, as I cannot make to do anything
through dragging, double-click, etc. I do see the "New Tab Stop" text in
the paragraph designer flicker when I click an icon, but nothing else
happens .

To add a tab stop, click a tab stop symbol from Paragraph Format
toolbar and click the desired position below the top ruler. Refer to
FrameMaker 9 user guide , page 43.

2. If I use the "Screen Mode" icon to select? "Full Screen Mode" the
menus correctly disappear. So far the only way I have found to get back
out of that mode is to close and reopen the file using keyboard
shortcuts. (Ctrl-W) I cannot find a keyboard shortcut or key to get back
out, and menu is gone of course. What is interesting is that re-opening
the file gives you the menus back, but "Screen Mode" remains in "Full
Screen Mode" (checkmark) even though it is not.

To change the screen mode :
-> Right click on the grey area outside document window, then choose
Toggle Screen Mode from the context menu.
->You can use the following keyboard shortcuts :
Esc S M s for standard screen mode.
Esc S M u for full screen with user interface.
Esc SM f for full screen.
Esc SM t to toggle screen mode.

I am using TCS2 with Frame 9 with the patch on XP SP3.

For me the new user interface seems a little confusing and inconsistent

trial & error. The Help file is mostly worthless. Seems they forgot to
update it for the new interface and icons in many cases.

1. I cannot get the Paragraph Formatting tool bar Tab icons to work. On earlier
versions I could drag them onto the ruler to add new tabs. While I can move
existing tabs on the ruler, I cannot seem to add new with the icons. The tab
icons seem inoperative, as I cannot make to do anything through dragging,
double-click, etc. I do see the "New Tab Stop" text in the paragraph designer
flicker when I click an icon, but nothing else happens .

To add a tab stop, click a tab stop symbol from Paragraph Format
toolbar and click the desired position below the top ruler. Refer to FrameMaker
9 user guide , page 43.

2. If I use the "Screen Mode" icon to select? "Full Screen Mode" the menus
correctly disappear. So far the only way I have found to get back out of that
mode is to close and reopen the file using keyboard shortcuts. (Ctrl-W) I
cannot find a keyboard shortcut or key to get back out, and menu is gone of
course. What is interesting is that re-opening the file gives you the menus
back, but "Screen Mode" remains in "Full Screen Mode" (checkmark) even though
it is not.

To change the screen mode :
-> Right click on the grey area outside document window, then choose Toggle
Screen Mode from the context menu.

For me the new user interface seems a little confusing and inconsistent in how
it works, but I am figuring out most of it by experimentation and trial &
error. The Help file is mostly worthless. Seems they forgot to update it for
the new interface and icons in many cases.

Two UI items however, escape me.

With respect to "Recent Items" on the splash screen and "File>History" I find
expected behavior both before and after installing the patch. Seems to work OK
for me.

wincmds.cfg lists these shortcuts:
Esc S M s for standard screen mode.
Esc S M u for full screen with user interface.
Esc SM f for full screen.
Esc SM t to toggle screen mode.
However, none of these shortucts works for me-- only the right-click and
Toggle Screen Mode.

FrameMaker 9 Recent File History Bug

2009-03-20 Thread Megha Chaitanya
Hi Mike,

I am not able to reproduce the issue. When one closes FrameMaker, it updates
the recent file information in maker.ini placed in user area. Pls. try the
following:

1. Delete maker.ini from the user area.
2 .Launch FrameMaker. This will copy maker.ini from install directory to user
area.
3. Open some files.
4. Close FrameMaker. (This should update the make.ini in user area with recent
files visited)
5. Launch FrameMaker again.

Does this display the recent files? If not, pls. check the maker.ini of the
user area. Did this have updated in step 4?

Regards,
Megha
