FrameMaker 9: Table Alighment

2013-12-17 Thread Waltermeyer, Brenda L.
FrameMaker 9 (Unstructured)
Windows 7

Is there a way to have a table grow from the bottom up, instead of top down?
For example:
The bottom row has a line at the bottom, this line is aligned with the bottom
of a logo on the left side of the page.
I have a table that has 11 rows and each row is conditioned for Show/Hide.
When I hide the first row it moves the bottom of the table up. I want the
bottom to say aligned with the bottom of the logo and the top of the table
moves down.

Any idea? (FM file is attached for example only)
Thanks for the help in advance.

Square Bullets in FrameMaker

2013-12-16 Thread Waltermeyer, Brenda L.
FrameMaker 9.0
Windows 7

For a bullet list I use the following
Bullet 1: round bullet
Auto numbering box: *\t(U)\s#\s#
When applied I get: * (U)
Bullet 2: dash bullets
Auto numbering box: -\t(U)\s#\s#
When applied i get: - (U)
Bullet 3: square bullets (does not work)
Auto numbering box: n\t(U)\s#\s#
When applied, I get all ZapfDingbats symbols
I have created a character tag for my bullet
I tried to use default fount after the \t but no luck

How do it get the square bullet to work and show the following text.

n (U)
Without typing (U) after the square bullet style.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

If I understand your problem correctly, you need to define character styles for
all bullet symbols, then apply them in the autonumber part of the Paragraph
Designer. So in this case you need a character style for Ding Zapfbats, or
whatever it's called, then you just cite that in the Character Format field of
the autonumber definition of your level three heading style.

AFAIR, FrameMaker uses the base font of the paragraph style for autonumbers
unless told to do differently.

Or am I missing something?

We are currently looking at whether to move our tech doc team from Frame 9 to

I've looked in my archive and can't find the threads that discussed this. Can

Note that I am interested in details regarding unstructured Frame. I also

FrameMaker 8.0 TOC building blocks

2012-08-08 Thread Waltermeyer, Brenda L.
My client uses Windows XP and FrameMaker 8.0

I need to include specially marked reference for each of my titles (i.e., # (U)
Title).

Currently have in the Paragraph Design – Numbering:

F:Figure\ $chapnum \+n+\s#(U)\s#

Which shows on my page as:

Figure 1-1 (U) This is a figure title style

As for the LOF generated file – View – Reference Pages:

Currently have:

$paranumonly$paratext …..$chapnum-$pagenum

Which shows on my page as:

1-1 This is a figure title style……….1-1

I want it to say:

1-1 (U) This is a figure title style……1-1

Question:

How do I achieve this with out typing the (U) with my title in the body text of
the document.
I want to have FM do this automatically. Any help or idea are greatly
appreciated.

Thanks

In the LOF file, on the LOF reference page, try chaninging the $paranumonly
building block to $paranum. The $paranumonly building block is designed to
pick up only the numbers (and any separators between the digits) and omit any
other following content produced by the autonumbering format. In other words,
it is specifically designed to *eliminate* the kind of extra characters you are
trying to add. $paranum, by contrast, picks up the entire autonumbering
string.

MathType Equations not printing clearly in FrameMaker 9.0

2012-01-25 Thread Waltermeyer, Brenda L.
Good Morning All.

We use MathType to do our equations for FrameMaker documents. They are linked
to the file. But for some reason, they are coming in correctly but when I print
to our printer with a PCL6 driver they come out fuzzy, meaning not as sharp as
the rest of the text in the document. This just started recently. We are using
Windows XP. I know there is a fix but I can not seem to find out what we did to
fix it. Does any one have any suggestions or ways of fixing this. I do know if
I copy and paste from MathType into FrameMaker it prints ok. Clear as a bell.
We are saving our equations as *.eps (tiff/eps), which works great normally.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Master Pages in Multiple Sizes?

2011-09-26 Thread Waltermeyer, Brenda L.
Hello Kristy,

I have always created a separate file with that master page and then added that
file to my book. I do 8.5 x 11 and sometimes 8.5 x 14 which would be a foldout.
Not sure if there is another way.

Subject: Master Pages in Multiple Sizes?

Hi, all!

Working in structured Frame 10. Trying to create multiple master pages for our
new manual series. I’ve figured out how to change page sizes and create new
master pages in general.

One issue: I need to have multiple page sizes within a book. The majority of
the book is 5.5” X 8.5”, but we want to be able to have 11” X 8.5” pages
inserted as well. The production is already taken care of, so not worried about
that bit.

Is there a way to have all my master pages in various page sizes within one
file? Or do I have to create separate files with the different master pages?

Thanks!
Kristy

Master Pages in Multiple Sizes?

2011-09-26 Thread Waltermeyer, Brenda L.
Hello Kristy,

I have always created a separate file with that master page and then added that
file to my book. I do 8.5 x 11 and sometimes 8.5 x 14 which would be a foldout.
Not sure if there is another way.

Brenda

Subject: Master Pages in Multiple Sizes?

Hi, all!

Working in structured Frame 10. Trying to create multiple master pages for our
new manual series. I?ve figured out how to change page sizes and create new
master pages in general.

One issue: I need to have multiple page sizes within a book. The majority of
the book is 5.5? X 8.5?, but we want to be able to have 11? X 8.5? pages
inserted as well. The production is already taken care of, so not worried about
that bit.

Is there a way to have all my master pages in various page sizes within one
file? Or do I have to create separate files with the different master pages?

Thanks!
Kristy

Hi Shmuel,

Just a thought, when you inserted the graphic on the master page do you
select it the box to insert as background?

Any ideas?

I planned on inserting the large graphic on the master page and the text
in text boxes on the body page. Is that the right way to do this?

Re: searching for straddled cells in Tables

2011-06-23 Thread Waltermeyer, Brenda L.
Linda,

I use FrameMaker 9. You will find straddled cells on the tool bar at the top
under Table, seventh option down Straddle.
Hope this helps.

Re: Adding 11x17 Master Page into a file in a book

2011-06-23 Thread Waltermeyer, Brenda L.
I have FM 9, but never added 11x17 as a master page. When I used 7.2 I always
made a file called Chapter 2 11x17 and created the master page for it. Once I
have the file done than I add it to the book and set page numbers so the number
correctly. All seems to work fine.

Subject: Adding 11x17 Master Page into a file in a book

This is a question for a fellow tech writer who can be reached at karlmeinert
at hotmail dot com if you want to talk to him directly.

He is running Windows 7 with FM9 p230 (but will be updating his patches
shortly).

Karl says;

Basically I want to have a graphic spanning a 2-page spread (left page - right
page) within a chapter. When I tried making a master page 11x17, it applied to
all master pages. Same when trying to edit a single body page.

I'm not sure how relevant this is but I had to reinstall FM and disable the
PDF creation install option because it would not work with this system.

His first e-mail to me also said:

I'm thinking of adding an 11x17 page in my book to display a screenshot with
many callouts, but i can't figure out how to apply this page formatting to only
one page. The intent would be to have the page span page 2 and 3 of the
chapter. Master pages doesn't like the idea much.

If anyone has any suggestions for him (I am anything but a Master Pages
expert), he would appreciate the help.

Alison

Collating Issues in Framemaker 7.2

2008-10-08 Thread Waltermeyer, Brenda L.
Hope some can help me with this issue:

Using FrameMaker 7.2, Version 7.2p158
Window XP, Perfessional, Version 2003, Service Pack 2

When I print multiple copies (i.e. 12 copies) of a document to an HP 9500
via the book, I am getting page 1: 12 times, Page 2 12 times, etc.

If I save the book to a PDF via ³Save As² feature and then print the PDF, I
get page 1, page 2, etc until the first copy is done and then it starts over
for the next copy. This seems to be the only way I can get the copies to
come off the printer collated correctly.

If I try to save the book as a postscript file using the ³Generate to
Acrobat Data² and distilling to a PDF. But when I print this file it does
the same thing as the if I printed from the book in FrameMaker directly
(first option).

I have the collate button selected in the print menu. Our IT people have
tried to use new drivers with no results. We also installed FrameMaker on to
new PC in another area and they are having the same issues. We have been
able to get the book to print and collate correctly before but all of a
sudden it stop working. Any ideas would be helpful and appreciated.

Thanks
