Fw: FM10 does not output Adobe PDF

2011-05-09 Thread bruce.macart...@vsea.com
Hello,
I spent 1.5 hours on the phone with Adobe support Friday afternoon. We
were unable to figure why I can't print to Acrobat PDF distiller. The
distiller is the one that came with FM10. My system shows that the file
was sent to the printer, however, there is no file created anywhere. When
I try to save as PDF, all the Arial Black fonts change to Times New Roman.
The resulting PDF file appears to have squares instead of characters. I
have tried to replace the true type fonts to no avail. If I change to
another font, the problem goes away. The document can save as PDF on FM8.
FM9 and FM10 appear to have the same save as problem. FM 9 is able to
print to PDF. If anyone can give me some assistance, I would appreciate
it.
Thank You,
Bruce

Subject:FM10 does not output Adobe PDF

Hello,
I just loaded FM10 on Windows 7 64. I tried to print to Adobe PDF. I have
the request for filename selected, however, it prints, there are no error
messages, and I can't find the file. If I save the file as PDF, it saves
OK, however, I can't get the bookmarks that way. Can someone tell me if
there is a setting that I don't have correct. This worked fine on FM9.
Thank You,

Framemaker 10 save to Framemaker 8

2011-04-26 Thread bruce.macart...@vsea.com
Hello,
I am checking out FM10 before I begin updating our writers. We typically
don't upgrade all writers at once. Most of the writers are using FM8. When
I got FM10 I got rid of my FM8 license. When I save files I am able to
save to FM9 only. Is there a way to save to FM8 without creating MIF
files?

Path to graphics updated in FM8

2010-02-12 Thread bruce.macart...@vsea.com
Hello All,
Our documents have the potential of being generic to be used in multiple
manuals. To achieve that, our safety icons are in a common location. The
FM files and associated graphics should always be together. When we move
the folders to another manual, everything should remain relative. With
FM8, writers go to our server and open a file, if the graphics are not
positioned correctly, the writer updates the location and FM8 changes the
location to absolute. Subsequent files that are opened and saved change
the graphic path to absolute and do not ask for the path change. Is there
any way to shut this off so that if a file is opened and the relative path
is incorrect, that it asks for the path update. The only other way of
verifying the path is to do a LOR.

FM8 to HTML: Callouts convert to grey boxes

2009-08-27 Thread bruce.macart...@vsea.com
HI All,
I need to develop the ability to convert from FM8 to HTML since FM doesn't
include WW standard. I have almost all the conversions built except for
the callouts in illustrations. I have to make the callouts greater than 12
pt. to keep them from turning into grey boxes. The majority of the text in
my manual is 10 pt. I tried to use the text line (A) and the text frame
with the same results. Is there a macro or something I can add that will
keep this from happening?
Thank You,

Fw: Converting Framemaker to PDF Heading 1 in a table

2009-03-31 Thread bruce.macart...@vsea.com
As it turns out the problem was a more difficult to diagnose that I
originally thought. My original document was in 2 files: a 2 page cover
that included the Heading 1, and the document. Since we needed to make
this a single document, I took the first document and added it to the
second. I made new master pages to the single document and assigned them
to the first 2 pages. The problem was caused by the fact that the origin
of the first 2 pages were not connected to the rest of the document. There
was only one flow, however, when you try to select the contents of the
document it would only select the parts that were connected. I had to
rebuild the document by taking the first 2 pages and add them to the 3rd
page. I deleted the first 2 pages and assigned the master page to the new
2 pages. The easy answer is to select the text frames and connect them
from the Format | Customize Layout | Connect Text Frames.

Thank you for your responses. Sorry for the misdirection.

be scanned first?

FM8 HTML output

2008-09-12 Thread bruce.macart...@vsea.com
Hello All,
I am new to the Framers group.
I develop the templates for the tech pubs group at my work. I have spent a
lot of time creating and maintaining templates and macros for WebWorks.
Several of our writers need to upgrade FM. I can't purchase FM7.2. This
would require the writers to upgrade to FM8. I purchased an upgrade to FM8
and can't figure out how to generate the HTML (or XML) outputs that would
look like what I produced with WebWorks. Since FM8 does not come with WW
standard, we would have to purchase a WW seat from Quadralay at great
expense. This forces us to make a decision on whether to stay with FM or
change to another application.

Is there a way to import templates and macros from WW?
Is there a way to define the HTML / XML page layout to include the banners
and navigation that WW created?

Please help me to figure this out so that I can make an informed decision
on the future.

Thank You,
