Re: [Framers] OT: Webinar: I am looking for a solution

2016-12-08 Thread David Creamer
I would have a look at EmSoftware's DocsFlow plugin for InDesign.
It lets you import to Google docs and spreadsheet, creating a one-way or
two-way link.
Formatting is maintained in InDesign even if document is updated by author.
http://emsoftware.com/products/docsflow/

The make a similar product for Word and Excel too.

Hello Framers,

I have been looking for a good content management solution for one of my
clients. The client has a series of medical professionals that contribute
content for an annual publication. Currently, each contributor submits their
content in a Word document, which is then cleaned up, "structured" and
imported into InDesign for publication. I am looking for a system where the
authors can enter their content in a browser so that I can receive and
process structured content, bypassing Word and the need to manually
structure the content.

Rather than show individual vendors what I need, I am hosting a webinar to
show my current process and solicit ideas and proposals for a new solution.
If you think you may have a solution for me, please attend my webinar on
Thursday, December 8, 2016, at 11:00 am Eastern Standard Time (US). It
should only take 20-30 minutes to show you my process.

Below is the meeting information. You can simply log in to attend, but I
would appreciate a reply ahead of time. Thank you very much.

I'm skeptical about persuading non-technical Word users to write in
DITA and having them do a good job of it. Oxygen hides the code a bit
but it's still pretty geeky.

Rick just says "XML" but hasn't specified which flavor. And is there a budget?

Oh, and I forgot to mention FontoXML, which is also nice:

Re: [Framers] OT: Webinar: I am looking for a solution

2016-12-08 Thread Yves Barbion
Hi Rick

I like oXygen XML Web Author a lot. You can test it online here:

https://www.oxygenxml.com/xml_web_author.html

I'm seeing the following configuration:

   - Technical writers use FrameMaker + DITA-FMx or the desktop version of
   oXygen XML Author
   - Content contributors (subject matter experts) use oXygen XML Web Author
   - The content can be managed in Git or a DITA-aware content management
system like DITAToo, Bluestream XDocs, Componize etc.
   - To publish to PDF, you can use FrameMaker + DITA-FMx (see also
   http://leximation.com/dita-fmx/featurecomparison.php).

The content contributors could also use Simply XML DITA Edition, but Simply
XML does not support the complete DITA standard and all of DITA's reuse
features. But then again, your customer may not have a need for full DITA
support.

I'd love to watch your Solution Search Webinar, but I'm not available this
afternoon.

Kind regards

Yves

What kind of XML?

I don't usually hear of InDesign in the same context as structured text.

I don't know what you mean by "structure" in this context. Applying
consistent styles?
