RE: Color setting Don't Print doesn't work (WAS: Modifying FM's default R/L master pages)

2013-06-11 Thread Craig Ede
I seem to vaguely remember that this setting is only valid for CMYK documents.
I could be wrong though. Check that out.

I've just verified that this is true in both FrameMaker 10 and 11.

RECAP: Create a new color and choose Don't Print as its Print As setting.
Apply the color to text and print the page. The text using the Don't Print
color shouldn't appear in the printout but it does.

I've just created a bug report on the Adobe website but thought I'd post this

Well, you could move the special colour from Normal to Invisible, either in

I'm trying to simplify the processes here so I'd hate to add changing views or

I was stymied by that same problem once and someone explained to me, if I'm
remembering correctly, that the Don't Print setting only applies to color
separations. To make it not appear in a normal, composite printout, you have to
use View Color Views and move your non-printing color into the Invisible

It is rather non-intuitive.

This could be a combination of two issues:

1. I seem to remember FrameMaker sometimes has trouble creating a PDF when a
book contains a mix of landscape and portrait pages. The resulting PDF will
contain only one page orientation, the landscape pages will be rotated. The
solution was to create a .ps file, then drop this on Distiller.

2. After you import master pages into a book, you have to apply them.
If you have set up a Master Page Mapping Table, you can do this automatically.

Modifying FM's default R/L master pages

2013-06-06 Thread Gay Alson
Hello, Framers,
FrameMaker imposes Right/Left master pages that can’t be deleted, although they
can be modified—or so I thought.
In one template, I changed the orientation of the default R/L master pages from
Portrait to Landscape. However, after PDFing a book consisting of several
chapters, some using the modified Right/Left and others using the default
(portrait) Right/Left master pages, the result is all Portrait pages.
To me this indicates that the PDFing procedure applied the same master pages to
all pages. Is there a way around this?
(Previously I used custom Landscape Right and Left pages but that caused other
problems, which I hoped to avoid by just using default R L master pages that
had been modified. )
Any wisdom will be greatly appreciated.
TIA,
~~Gay

RE: Modifying FM's default R/L master pages

2013-06-06 Thread Gay Alson
As it turns out, a MIF-wash of the chapter containing the R/L master pages that
were modified to landscape orientation **SEEMS** to solve the problem...

(That is, unless it turns out to be a procedure required sporadically for
future book updates...in which case, I'll repost :))

Modifying FM's default R/L master pages

2013-06-05 Thread Gay Alson
Hello, Framers,
FrameMaker imposes Right/Left master pages that can?t be deleted, although they
can be modified?or so I thought.
(Previously I used custom Landscape Right and Left pages but that caused other
problems, which I hoped to avoid by just using default R & L master pages that
had been modified. )
Any wisdom will be greatly appreciated.
TIA,
~~Gay
