The free version doesn't apply any dbs or rules to it. It actually costs $6000.

But, there is no mention about the same for framemaker 11.

If installed correctly, you should see an SDL menu item appear on your top line
menus (File, Special, etc.). See the demo of it working with FM in RJ Jacquez's
Adobe blog from last year or the year before (I forget when it happened)

SDL Author Assistant

2011-01-25 Thread Arockiasamy, Sebastian (GE Healthcare)
Hi Framers,

I am trying to set up SDL author assistant with FM 9. I have created a
local profile and I want to host that on a server for two reasons.

1. The latest profile is available to all writers at any time

2. I should be able to update the profile anytime

Can you help me to setup the profile server online using http or point
me to some link that has this information?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Seb,

have you tried the SDL support? They are pretty helpful (we're not expecting
less from a support...) and responsive (provided that you get a Premium support
membership). You can drop them a message or call them straight, there's always
somebody to reply or call you back "relatively" fast.

Best regards,
Mathieu.

FM9 and SDL Author Assistant: Has anyone used this?

2010-06-08 Thread Yves Barbion
Hi Alison

I asked the same question in March. Cathy Arthur was the only one who had
actually used it. This was her reply:

"I implemented it in my group several months ago. I really like it and it
has definitely improved everyone's writing. We do not translate, but we
do write for a very technical audience that does not always have
excellent English skills.

The files that are used to specify rules will probably take awhile to
develop. I was able to obtain the files from the primary docs group in
the company (who do external docs) which was the bulk of the work."

I've downloaded a copy of SDL free Author Assistant (for use with FM9) but
before I install it, I wondered if anyone has actually used this and if they
would be willing to share their experience.

Although SDL is a very reputable company, I'm always leery of adding an unknown

FM 9 Version: 9.0p250
Unstructured
OS: XP Pro with SP3
FM Experience: 11 months
Translation/Localization Management Experience: 11 years Writing Team: 1 (me)

I installed it to try out the grammar checker. At first glance, the grammar
checker seemed like it was flagging way too much. There is probably a way to
set preferences to help with that. In any cases, I haven't had a chance to
follow up to see what I really think.

Free SDL Author Assistant for Adobe FrameMaker 9 plugin

2009-03-05 Thread Mike Wickham
Could this be the FM grammar checker that many have been wishing for?

Posted on the Adobe FrameMaker User Forum:

"SDL Author Assistant for Adobe FrameMaker 9

"The SDL Author Assistant for Adobe? FrameMaker? 9 plug-in enables
enterprise-wide consistency in grammar, style, and terminology and
reusability of content. It checks written text for writing style issues that
impact the content's readability and translatability.

"Please note that this plug-in is available as a free download for
FrameMaker
9 customers."

http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4357

I've played with it a little and it looks promising-- though I miss Word's
live grammar checking capabilities. But it's free, it works with FM, and
Adobe is providing the download, so it appears to have their blessing. For
those doing translating, the plugin also tracks previously translated
sentences so that you don't have to pay to retranslate.
