Re: [Frameworks] Questions on Film-Making
Dear Jason, Thank you for your response! My CV does not really have anything on it that really relates to my film practice - would you like it anyway? Please feel free to answer these questions however you like - long or short! And feel free to add on anything that may not be specific to the question. 1. How would you define your practice of film-making? 2. Do you think your method of film-making categorises you as a particular type of film-maker (for example, experimental)? 3. What is it about how you film or just film in particular, that attracts you to film? Is it aesthetically pleasing? If so, why? 4. What do you think the importance is of film and sound together, especially in relation to the sound of the projector? 5. Is film animate or inanimate? Thank you again! If you have any further suggestions on possible readings or things to research please let me know! Would love to see some of your films also. Can you send me some educational questions and your CV if possible. Cheers! I am writing my dissertation alongside my practice and taking quite a personal approach. Therefore, I was hoping to ask several film-makers questions as part of my research on their approach to film, and their different views of it. I would be hugely grateful if you would let me email you some questions asking you about film-making, experimental film-making and generally what it means to you, and a few other things I am hoping to look at. My email address is i.pr...@hotmail.com and so if you are interested please get back to me! I would love to hear any sort of answers, they can be as long or as short as you like! I hope to hear from you soon. I am not emailing anybody specifically - the broader the variety of film-makers, the better! [Frameworks] News from Canyon Cinema
This message was sent out to Canyon's filmmaker members today, and we'd like to share it with the Frameworks community: To the Canyon Cinema Inc. Filmmaker members: We would like to thank all of you that responded to our recent request to vote. With a resounding approval, the membership voted by more than the 1/3 needed with 105 votes in support of dissolving Canyon Cinema Inc. and having the Canyon Cinema Foundation, a nonprofit in the state of CA, absorb its assets. There was only one vote that disapproved of this conversion. This will now enable Canyon to apply for the IRS Federal non-profit exempt status under 501 (c) 3. We will be filing the IRS 1023 form before the end of the year and will keep you updated. Please check the main page of our website for updates: http://www.canyoncinema.com We will also provide updates on our Facebook page and Twitter feed. Thanks again for your continued support. [Frameworks] Lawrence Brose: why the silence?!
Frameworkers, Why the silence about the situation of Lawrence Brose? Perhaps because many don't know what's been happening in Buffalo, where an accomplished film artist is being persecuted by Homeland "Security." For information check out a recent article in ARTVOICE: http://artvoice.com/issues/v11n45/guest_essay. [Frameworks] E6 kit for super8 hand processing
I used to use the TMax kit by Kodak to hand process super8mm film but now that that's been discontinued I'm planning on using the E6 kit. Any pieces of advice? Also if I want to experiment solarizing the film, should I do that after the first developer or after the color developer? Would love any piece of advice/ recipes from Frameworkers as I play around with this tomorrow. Re: [Frameworks] E6 kit for super8 hand processing
Solarization (Sabatier) is a first-developer thing, because it effects how the image is formed from the latent image by the developer. The second developer pretty much develops everything that's left on the film, so solarization in the second developer shouldn't do much. Then again, I never use the E6 kit; does it require reexposure before the color developer, or is it a fogging (color) redeveloper that does not require light? If the latter, then there might be an interesting differential to be had between light-reexposure (from Sabatier) and chemical reexposure.
