Re: [Frameworks] E6 kit for super8 hand processing
The Kodak E-6 kit does chemical re-exposure. My suggestion for solarization is just do BW negative process with HC-110 as your developer. HC-110 solarizes very well and you don't need to reverse necessarily anyway. --scott ___ FrameWorks mailing list FrameWorks@jonasmekasfilms.com https://mailman-mail5.webfaction.com/listinfo/frameworks

http://artvoice.com/issues/v11n45/guest_essay Thank you, Kevin! Above is a link to a very good article about the case against Lawrence Brose, written by Bill Altreuter. Hi Pip, Just wondered if the dvd's ( or the emails via this forum) sent to you months ago at some kind of French address ended up in a dead letter box somewhere? Myron ___ FrameWorks mailing list FrameWorks@jonasmekasfilms.com https://mailman-mail5.webfaction.com/listinfo/frameworks
[Frameworks] super 8 splices / transfers
Hey folks I've been running into some problems getting a spliced super 8 film transferred; the frameline fluctuates wildly after the splices (in one case shifting upwards for the duration of the shot) - has anyone else encountered this? Any tips? cheers all round Moira moiratierney.net vimeo.com/moiratierney ___ FrameWorks mailing list FrameWorks@jonasmekasfilms.com https://mailman-mail5.webfaction.com/listinfo/frameworks
Re: [Frameworks] super 8 splices / transfers
Moira: Super-8 framelines vary a lot, and splices will jump because they are never perfect. The best and simplest way to deal with this is to scan more than the frame itself -- to overscan the image enough that any jump doesn't cause you to lose any of the image. Then it's a simple matter to reposition the offending frames vertically so that they are in the right place. This is very easy to do in most editing software on Mac and PC, and also using the free version of DaVinci Resolve 9. Of course, you need to scan at a high enough resolution so that you are not reducing quality when you crop the image back to its normal size. Kinetta scans at 3296 x 2472, so there's plenty of latitude for reframing. You might want to download this for more information: http://db.tt/5SlAVkbT I am offering scans at a discount to Frameworks folks this month. Re: [Frameworks] super 8 splices / transfers
Was this a film chain transfer or was it done on a scanner? --scott ___ FrameWorks mailing list FrameWorks@jonasmekasfilms.com https://mailman-mail5.webfaction.com/listinfo/frameworks
Re: [Frameworks] super 8 splices / transfers
Hi Moira, We have been doing film-chain and then FlashscanHD scanning of R8 and S8 for many years. When we are up against tightly spliced super-8 with presstape splices - that is the only time I wish we were still doing chain transfers! The image quality is so much better with the FlashscanHD, but 6-frame tape splices like presstapes will cause a 12 to 22 frame long vertical shift about 40 frames after the splice (distance between imaging 'gate' and travel encoder). We splice acetate with cement (M-H 816s) and Single-8 with a Neutaper - neither of which cause significant shifts, but the heavier and longer pre-cut, pre-perfed tape splices like the Kodak presstapes cause trouble in many of the modern scanners with capstan drives and travel encoders. These big tape splices have the effect of increasing the diameter of the travel encoder thereby throwing off the framing. The smaller the film gauge, the greater the percentage of shift. If you need to use tape splices and aren't planning to project, base-side-only splices will run well through the FlashscanHD, but with other scanners it will depend on which side contacts the travel encoder. Otherwise, 2-frame wrap-around splices like those from the Neutaper or Wurker splicers cause very little shift. -Good luck! ---Buck Bito Lawrence Buck Bito Movette Film Transfer *NEW LOCATION* 1407 Valencia St. San Francisco, CA 94110 (Valencia at 25th St.) 415-558-8815 Open Tuesday - Saturday Tue+Thu: 8-6, Wed+Fri: 9-6, Sat: 10-4 www.movettefilm.com On Thu, November 15, 2012 2:03 pm, Scott Dorsey wrote: Was this a film chain transfer or was it done on a scanner? --scott On Thu, November 15, 2012 1:42 pm, ev petrol wrote: Hey folks I've been running into some problems getting a spliced super 8 film transferred; the frameline fluctuates wildly after the splices (in one case shifting upwards for the duration of the shot) - has anyone else encountered this?
