Why don't you just downsample it to 480p? Just export it to a lower
resolution. No need to lay off to tape, that's just crazy talk.

[Frameworks] Artavazd Pelechian, from „Beginning“ to „The End“

2013-08-17 Thread Lloyd Dunn
I recently wrote a post about the works of the Armenian film artist
Artavazd Pelechian for the history-culture-travel blog „Poemas del Río
Wang“. For those not familiar with Pelechian’s work, I hope my text can
serve as an introduction and overview of his work, as well as his theory of
„distance montage“.

Included in the post is a compilation of youtube videos of his major works,
in one convenient location.

http://riowang.blogspot.cz/2013/08/artavazd-pelechian-from-to-and-beyond.html

I would also welcome any comments and feedback, either as blog comments at
Río Wang, or as a direct email to me.

the Ancestors: Stories from the West African Diaspora,
an insightful documentary highlighting the stories of the West

Griots/musicians that have come to and through New York; their mixing
of traditional and modern in the music they play and the cultural
ramifications, if any, this will have on the future.

This
event will provide a chance for us, the filmmakers, to meet with
members of the community in New York and build capital, both social
and economic, for the finishing stages of this project. We will also
be debuting an extended video trailer for the documentary.

Re: [Frameworks] Converting digital video to VHS using Premiere or something else

2013-08-17 Thread Dan Anderson
Try to find an older, working VHS camcorder and tape it off your computer
screen. Maybe your local media center, public access television station,
school or thrift store has one in the backroom somewhere... although
they're getting much harder to find working these days.

Taping through the air will get rid of that harsh HD look more
organically than downgrading on a computer or running through cables... and
usually older cameras have manual image controls that you could adjust
easily to get the look you're going for. Move back and zoom in for more
softness/pixels. (HD televisions and computer screens don't tend to flicker
and wobble off the screen like they did in the old days..)

Then, play the VHS through a monitor and record it with an iPhone or
HDcamera to get back onto an online format. Eliminating cables and
programs
all together will save a lot of time/hassle/money unless you're already set
up for making transfers.

Hey Im making a stopmotion video using adobe premiere and it looks terrible
because its HD and looks too crisp. You can see all the shitty blue

 look so obvious.

If you want less resolution just to mask the mistakes, why not fix the mistakes
rather than make it all look like mush?

Of course if you want it all to look mushy, why work in HD in the first place?
A generation of VHS will do many things, some of which you may like and others
you may not. Choice of format is important.
