[Frameworks] Documentaries-diaries-essays or video/film installations that play with truth or cinema theory

2019-06-06 Thread Morgan Hoyle-Combs
Hello all.

I've asked this quite a few times already, but I'm still on the lookout for
films that question the concept of truth in documentaries or cinema. So far,
I've been able to favor "Megacities" by Michael Glawogger, "David Hotlzman's
Diary" by Jim McBride and "The stories we tell" by Sarah Polley. And yes, I've
watched F for Fake more than enough ;)

I've also been getting into dissecting film and theater down to, for lack of
better terms, compound elements. I've been looking into the works of Bazin,
Kracauer and Metz and how they have explored the concept of spectatorship and
illusion within the realm of photography, film and sometimes theater.

So anything that would focus on deconstructing truth or incorperate cinema
theory. In addition to diaries and essays, I'd also be open to film/video
installations/performances that share the same focus.

I can suggest TUNING THE SLEEPING MACHINE by David Sherman, 1996, as well as I
DREAMING by Stan Brakhage or many of Brakhage’s handpainted films which he
specifically attributed  to hypnogogic visions.

new production technologies, and have experience with innovative forms of
media-making.

This is a full-time teaching and service position for an initial 3-year
appointment starting no later than July 1, 2020. ETAs are eligible for

offer the only undergraduate BA in Communication and Cultural Studies and
the only graduate diploma in Communication in Canada; we have over thirty
years of experience running our MA in Media Studies, which includes over
twenty-five years of innovations in research-creation methods; our growing
PhD program offers students advanced training in media and cultural
studies. In keeping with Concordia’s mission, the Department fosters
inclusivity in its research, curriculum, and teaching practices, and is
committed to serving the needs of a diverse student population. Candidates
are encouraged to visit our departmental website for additional information
concerning our programs, course offerings, and priorities:

the University. Successful candidates will normally be expected to teach
six 3-credit courses per year and serve on relevant department committees.

QUALIFICATIONS

Candidate will have a terminal degree (MFA and/or PhD), demonstrated
expertise in media production, have successful teaching experience in a
post-secondary academic context, have a demonstrated understanding of the
relationship between media production and cultural/critical theory,
evidence of media-making and/or research-creation contributions, and
evidence of continued growth in media-making practice and technical skills.

APPLICATIONS

Applications should consist of the following items, in the given order, as
a single PDF:

a cover letter;
a curriculum vitae, which includes software and technical competencies;
a statement of teaching philosophy/interests (approx. 1 page);
samples of media produced to showcase skills and expertise;

teaching evaluations);
names of three references.
Applications should be sent to Ms. Donna Stewart, Department Administrator,

position has been filled.

Hi all,
I’m looking for suggestions on films about dreams, dreaming, sleep, hypnagogia,
etc. – and/or filmmakers whose work or practice strongly relates to those. That
is, films where these subjects / experiences are a main focus, or have
particularly interesting or uncommon approaches.
