If you ever need to work outside in the cold, the only meter that will work
is the old Sekonic Studio, battery-less meter. Phones are useless in cold.

2019-08-05 Thread Lisa Danker
Hi Warren,

I have used the Pocket Light Meter app when I needed to shoot something and
didn't have another meter. I took readings from a gray piece of cardboard
to try to get something closer to an incident reading, since the apps, as
far as I understand, only give reflective values. The results were good,
and I'd do that again if necessary but would opt for an incident/spot
combination or just incident meter when possible.

I've been using a free ap called Pocket Light Meter for a couple years now,
and it too seems very accurate. I've compared the readings with a much
more expensive Sekonic meter and they are virtually identical.

I've been very happy with CineMeter.

I calibrate it against a Sekonic analog meter and it's shockingly accurate.
Though I would never show up on a set with it, it's very handy for shooting
home movies on the fly. There's also less of a learning curve than with an
analog meter, which to be honest is probably a bad thing in the long run!

recognizable) scene in an old silent comedy where some disappears (a-la Méliès)
