wrote the seminal publications, 'The Super 8 Book' and 'Independent
Filmmaking', among others. And in October 18, 2020, he's coming out with an

Subject: [Frameworks] ETA position in media production (Concordia University)

With apologies for crossposting:

Extended-Term Appointment in Media Production
Deadline: Tuesday September 3, 2019

The Department of Communication Studies at Concordia University in Montreal,
Quebec, invites applications for a full-time extended-term appointment (ETA) in
Media Production.

We are seeking a media-maker with a specialization in two or three of the
following areas: Intermedia, Moving Images, and Sound. The successful candidate
will teach production courses in our undergraduate and graduate diploma
programs. We are particularly interested in candidates who have extensive
experience teaching media production, have up-to-date skills with new
production technologies, and have experience with innovative forms of
media-making.

This is a full-time teaching and service position for an initial 3-year
appointment starting no later than July 1, 2020. ETAs are eligible for
reappointment, subject to the availability of work and positive evaluation of
their performance, potentially for a period of time without an end-date.

Founded in 1965, the Department of Communication Studies at Concordia
University is Canada’s oldest degree-granting department in the discipline. Our
expertise and major research contributions have been in cultural studies,
feminist media studies, moving image studies, sound studies, environmental
studies, game studies, mobility studies, critical race theory, media history,
and the politics of identity. The Department offers programs leading to BA,
Graduate Diploma, MA, and PhD degrees. The undergraduate Degree in
Communication Studies is well known for its integration of media production and
critical theoretical perspectives; we offer the only undergraduate BA in
Communication and Cultural Studies and the only graduate diploma in
Communication in Canada; we have over thirty years of experience running our MA
in Media Studies, which includes over twenty-five years of innovations in
research-creation methods; our growing PhD program offers students advanced
training in media and cultural studies. In keeping with Concordia’s mission,
the Department fosters inclusivity in its research, curriculum, and teaching
practices, and is committed to serving the needs of a diverse student
population. Candidates are encouraged to visit our departmental website for
additional information concerning our programs, course offerings, and
priorities: concordia.ca/coms

RESPONSIBILITIES

The appointed candidate will be expected to be an engaged and inspiring teacher
in media production, to envisage future curriculum development, and to
contribute actively to the service and reputation of the Department and the
University. Successful candidates will normally be expected to teach six
3-credit courses per year and serve on relevant department committees.

QUALIFICATIONS

Candidate will have a terminal degree (MFA and/or PhD), demonstrated expertise
in media production, have successful teaching experience in a post-secondary
academic context, have a demonstrated understanding of the relationship between
media production and cultural/critical theory, evidence of media-making and/or
research-creation contributions, and evidence of continued growth in
media-making practice and technical skills.

APPLICATIONS

Applications should consist of the following items, in the given order, as a
single PDF:

a cover letter;
a curriculum vitae, which includes software and technical competencies;
a statement of teaching philosophy/interests (approx. 1 page);
samples of media produced to showcase skills and expertise;
evidence of teaching effectiveness (e.g. syllabi; samples of student work;
teaching evaluations);
names of three references.
Applications should be sent to Ms. Donna Stewart, Department Administrator, at
donna.stew...@concordia.ca with the subject
heading Media Production ETA application and to arrive by Tuesday, September 3,
2019 and addressed to:

Donna Stewart, Communication Studies DA
Department of Communication Studies (CJ 3.230)
Concordia University
7141 Sherbrooke Street West
Montreal, Quebec H4B 1R6
Canada

Questions about the position may be sent to Charles Acland, Chair, Department
of Communication Studies at c.acl...@concordia.ca

Review of applications begins as they are received and continues until the
position has been filled.

would be very cheap and you could pick them up at ATA Gallery.

Other Cinema in San Francisco is mounting a benefit for Joe, probably

Monies will go to Joe's legal defense (and maybe his bail, tho we sort
of doubt that). We'll set up ways for people outside the Bay Area to
make donations. Of course, all that must be worked out in these next
weeks. At the benefit itself, there will be updates from the most
reliable sources, and a screening of some Gibbons masterpieces. More

 Frameworkers,
I own a few nice S mount lenses, that came with a Kodak Cine Special II that I
purchased at a yard sale.
They work quite nicely on the Kodak camera, but I recently saw a C-mount
adaptor on eBay and was curious if anyone had experience with shooting S-mount
lenses on a C-Mount Bolex. Is there a loss of image ? Does the image cover
the full frame?

I'm curious, so I thought I would ask the experts.

They'll be fine, as long as it's a parallax Bolex, not a reflex. Lots of K-100s
came equipped with some of those kodak-mount into c-mount lenses as standard.

Hello folks,

I'm interested in screening Adam Curtis's three-part series, All

Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace, at a small theater in

Brooklyn. Wondering if anyone here has his contact info or any

previous experience in working with him to theatrically screen his

work.

Thanks

Hello again gentlepeople,

I'm looking to put together a survey of pioneering flicker films, as

well as contemporary works, all preferrably on celluloid, and I was

wondering if you guys were interested in throwing a few suggestions my

way. I have a few ideas of my own, of course, but I always like to see

what Frameworks thinks about these sorts of things

Re: [Frameworks] European cinemas who program and project 16mm films ??

2012-01-20 Thread craig baldwin

Hey Alain (and Pam)!
that's a great list of presenting-organizations you are making!
But , if I may, i would like to suggest a correction to the Other Cinema
listing. It IS true that the series is at the same address as ATA Gallery (they
are my and Other Cinema's roommates, tho they all moved out), and you can
continue to include them in the address (younger, video kids know ATA as well
as they know Other Cinema). BUT if someone mails something, for example, to
that address,
ata will probably just chuck their preview disc or whatever into the
trash..they are no longer interested in programming their own shows, more
towards a passive 'house for hire', and don't even have a working 16mm
projector!
So what I am saying is that you should add more specificity to that address, so
important inquiries get into my hands.
something like : Attn: Craig Baldwin, or OC/ATA Gallery at top .
thanks!

LaborBerlin, Cube Microplex, Arsenal, Xcentric and WORM have all been added.
When providing info, please let us know the make and model of 16mm projector in
use at your venue.

I also added Microscope Gallery (Brooklyn). Always open to hearing about and
adding places that are not currently posted, regardlessof geographic location,
so keep them coming. Japan, South Korea, China, Australia, or anywhere, we want
to hear about it and
list your venue info in 16mmdirectory.org.

Best,Alain

We'll try this again... thanks to those who responded on and off list.

Please, if you know of venues in Europe that program and project 16mm,
particularly those venues not currently listed in 16mm Directory, let us know,
as we would like to add them to the list.

16mmdirectory.org/exhibitors (select by country to check current listings)
Current scope of listings focuses primarily on North America and we'd like to
expand the listings.

no, as I requested, do not strip out ATA, it is still the name that is on the
brick-and mortar facade.
as to 16 projectors , we now use a Kodak Pageant 250S.
