Or at 1+1 at 11 minutes and 20°C, if you are short on chemicals, it also seems
to give a better regular range of greys.

I've always processed Plus X negative with undiluted D76 for 6 minutes @20
 degrees C. I can't really speak to reducing contrast -- I haven't really
had that problem! Diluting the developer would reduce the contrast, it
seems, but then I can't recommend a time.

film; creative possibilities and conservation problems

Using the collection of films distributed by Lightcone as a starting point for
the presentation of the possibilities afforded to artists in the creation of
film work at all levels of the production process (with or without cameras,
printing techniques, diverse manipulations, stop motion, perforations and
soundtracks, etc.), questions surrounding the problems of the conservation of
these complex film objects will be addressed.

With Christophe Bichon, Anne Cartier-Bresson, Alice Moscos, Jean-Gabriel Lopez,
David Kidman

At Lightcone, 157 rue de Crimée, 75019 Paris (interphone 105)

Re: [Frameworks] mpeg-2

2013-02-12 Thread David_Kidman
If fcp can't transcode, Compressor is unlikely to, mpeg Streamclip is probably
your best bet, though it is also possible to transcode mpeg formats to .mov or
.dv for SD workflows using Toast. Mpeg Streamclip is free, though.

If that is not the problem, you might try using MPEG streamclip or another
 program instead of Compressor.

GENE - I would suggest using Compressor or MPEG streamclip and converting
your MP2 files to quicktime files in the DV/DVCPro - NTSC codec if you're
planning on keeping the project in SD. No need to take up storage space with
ProRes422 unless you need the resolution.

I also have some MP4 files that I want to convert to DV for editing in FCP.
When I use Compressor I choose MP4 and the file I want to transcode, but when
I press Submit I get the following message: One or more jobs do not have a
source media file assigned. Dunno what to do,

 Please can you help,

as far as my knowledge of FCP goes, this software does not like compressed
files. it works well with apple's codecs, the best of them being
AppleProRes422 or AppleProRes422(HQ). “HQ” stands for high quality. it has
double the bitrate of the non-hq format, and weighs double in terms of file
size. if you convert from mpeg-2 which is a compressed format it is useless
to use HQ. to convert from MPEG-2 to AppleProRes422 use apple compressor or
the free app MPEG streamclip. apple compressor might already be in your
computer as it is part of the apple editing suite comprising FCP. it is
pretty forward to use. open the file you want to transcode, choose the output
format and the output destination, and run the program. likewise for MPEG
 streamclip.

 marco

Re: [Frameworks] 8mm/16mm looping

2013-01-20 Thread David_Kidman
You can avoid a lot of scratching by winding some teflon tape around the cores
of the reels. Make sure that the film flattens the end of the tape.
Best,
David
Le 20 janv. 2013 à 15:33, Tom Whiteside a écrit :

If your loops are short enough you don’t really need anything special. Put a
supply reel and a take up reel on the projector, but of course the film does
not attach to them, it just passes through them.

If you have slot loaders you can make (and keep) the loops, just splice the
film into a loop of the appropriate length, load it on the projector and go.
When done you can remove the loop intact and store it in a can.

If you have any kind of a self-threading projector you need to thread up the
length of film the same way you would load a regular reel, then make the
splice to join the tail to the head and you are good to go. In either case
the length is limited to a fairly small range, but it’s a loop. Can be kind
of challenging to make that splice in midair, or on top of the projector, but
it’s not too hard. To unload this you should undo the splice, let the film
run out of the projector, and keep the length of film intact. Of course tape
splices are easiest in this situation, and you need not lose any frames
 undoing the splice.

I am rather loopy these days, the piece I am showing Friday at Strange Beauty
Film Festival here in Durham is CIRCLE SPIRAL SLOW. Not sure how many
frameworkers know about Strange Beauty, it is annual and this is #4 and it’s
a rather wonderful little fest. Drop in if you are in Bull City.

 Hi,
 I am trying to set-up a basic loop on a super-8 projector and also a 16mm
 projector,
the film would be pretty short, no more than 10ft.

anyone with experience with looping have suggestions/readings/instructions???

 thanks so much,
