Re: [Frameworks] silent work

Hi Andy,

You might want to look at the videos of Colin Clark. He is a Toronto-based
composer, video artist, and software developer. He composed music for several
of my films but refrains from using sound in his videos. Here is a link to his
Vimeo page: https://vimeo.com/colinbdclark

I think that his work would lend itself very well to an exhibition setting.

Good luck!

Izabella

Subject: [Frameworks] silent work

Hi all,

I'm putting together a monitor-based exhibition of moving image work for a
public space, with one of the requirements being that the works are shown
silent due to the nature of the space. Plenty of archival and artists' film
work fits this. But in the course of preparing this exhibition, a more general
question has arisen: Who is making silent work now? Or more to the point, are
there artists who make video pieces that are silent? I'm thinking of videos
that might draw on the legacy of silent/non-soundtrack film work by Deren,
Menken, Brakhage, Dorsky et al, but it seems difficult to find any moving image
work without sound that doesn't originate somehow on film.

I know Frameworks is devoted to work on film and not video, but perhaps some on
this list can help. Thanks for any leads.

Best,

Re: [Frameworks] optical sound film screening

2017-03-10 Thread Izabella Pruska-Oldenhof
Hi Peter,

You might want to look at films (16mm and 35mm) by Kelly Egan, all of them use
optical animated sound. She has nine films in distribution at CFMDC (Canadian
Filmmakers Distribution Centre) http://www.cfmdc.org/catalogue Kelly’s Doctoral
dissertation dealt with the history of animated sound and film projector noise.

Good luck with your event,

Subject: [Frameworks] optical sound film screening

hello all,

my name is peter szely from ima, institute for media archeology.

feel free to check out our website www.ima.or.at

 I have a question:

ima always set itself a yearly topic in our work.

this years topic is optical sound.

we plan to have workshops and concerts dealing with optical sound, and we also
plan to hav a film screening of movies.

we are interested in movies where the sound comes from manipulations and
treatments such as drawing or scratching directly on the celluloid,

do you have any recommendations of fine pieces of film working like this?

thanks in advance

best szely

Re: [Frameworks] films/videos using/made up of text

2013-11-14 Thread Izabella Pruska-Oldenhof
Kelly Egan not only uses text as image in her films but also on the
optical sound track as sound. CFMDC is her film distributor. But Kelly is
also on this list.
