Re: [Frameworks] Super 8 frames blown up to photo prints!

2013-11-26 Thread Lars Fuchs
You could try sandwiching the super 8 film in a cardboard 35mm slide mount,
then using an old fashioned macro-bellows on a dslr. I've gotten some very
interesting results with a bellows and my Pentax *ist DL, but I was going
for abstract/experimental not reproduction. however I was able to get
pretty good enlargement, and on a high end dslr like a 5D or D7000 you
should have resolution enough (and color depth if you shoot raw) to make
pretty big prints.

 H people!

So, ok, I have a question.

I want to make prints of a few choice Super 8 film frames, and I don't
know how the heck to go about it. I'd like the prints to vary - some about
12 inches across, others 24 inches across, some maybe even bigger.

I'm guessing… It's probably a case of getting a high quality digital scan
(how?!) and then sending it to a printer… I'd like to get it done as a
C-type print (which replicates the photographic process)… but this is super
costly so it might need to be a digital print.

If anyone has experience with this, pretty please let me know how to do
it! I'm rubbish with digital scanning etc so really need to be given a
 clue. A big clue. :)))

 Cheers people!

Re: [Frameworks] New Uses for Steenbeck 901 Editing Table?

2013-08-13 Thread Lars Fuchs
Put an old analog camera in the light path after the prism and replace the
viewing screen with a monitor, or use a digital camera with a computer, and
invert the electronic signal. Bonus extra, you can digitize your film
(quality wont be great, however).

  No.

of course there is a little tricky one - use a iphone with a
arm-gear-stand to fix it to the table, make the screen invert and capture
the screen - then use some filter in the light beam to reduce the mask. so
you might have an idea of it.

Re: [Frameworks] 16mm camera servicing n NYC

2013-03-08 Thread Lars Fuchs
I can't speak to price compared with Abel-Cine, but I've always been happy
with the service at Du-All Camera for my Super 8 cameras. They do 16 as
well. http://www.duallcamera.com/

You could also try Bernie at Super 16 Inc.

I've never used his services, but he comes highly recommended.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Re: [Frameworks] Notice of Members Meeting Millennium Film Workshop April 15 Sunday

2012-03-26 Thread Lars Fuchs
Hi Jay, this is great. I can be there. We should talk about procedure and
rules-of-order to keep the meeting from going off track. We should also
prepare a written agenda.

Talk to you soon!

The Millennium Film Workshop is having a members meeting to vote for
the board of directors and the director. Also on the agenda is to
make a few changes in the bylaws to facilitate the development and
enacting of new bylaws, which sorely need to be brought up to date.

The Millennium has undergone fundamental changes in the past year.
There has been restructing in the governance of the organization as
well as a change in the space that we have. However, the Millennium
has definitely bottomed out and is on the way back to health, though
these next few months will determine the future of the organization.
This is the time that we as a membership fundamentally assess the
purpose and future direction. There has been an outpouring of
support, new board members, discovery of new equipment, and a renewed
sense of optimism in the affairs of the organization.

It is important that we get as many people as we can to show up at the
meeting. The success of the meeting will determine whether or not the
Millennium will survive. If you are not already a member, you will be
able to join. As described in the notice below, only certain members
are able to vote according to the bylaws. When the next meeting
comes along, you will be able to vote. The doors will open at 5:00pm
to register new members. A quorum is 50% of the members that are
 eligible to vote.

The Millennium has been an important part of the community for nearly
half of a century. It continues to serve the community with
screenings, equipment rental, workshops, facilities access and the
Millennium Film Journal. It is in a serious state and urgent action
is needed. With your support, this important resource can survive and
 flourish.

Please share this with interested friends and colleagues. If you have
any questions or ideas, please send me an email. I hope to see you
 there!

Re: [Frameworks] Abstract Nonfiction/Documentary

2012-03-07 Thread Lars Fuchs
Actually I mean both. (BTW I just ordered a copy of Crooked Beauty.)
Figurative imagery as you describe is perhaps my first interest, but I am
very keen to see how abstract imagery can be used expressively.

The project I'm working on is a personal exploration of identity and
belonging. Some of that story, as it currently exists, involves metaphor;
this I can show with literal as well as figurative imagery.

But I would really like to see works incorporating abstract imagery -
non-identifiable subjects - used as a central expressive tool (as opposed
to its use as primarily as eye-candy, just stylistically, that is very
popular nowadays. Its something that I have little experience creating, but
I feel the piece I'm working on really calls for it.

The titles listed weren't meant as examples of types I want to see more of,
but as examples of types I've already seen; I would like to see something
different to expand my horizons, as it were.

Thanks Franco for the tip off to Artavazd Pelechian. I'm so happy to have
finally heard of him!

[Frameworks] Processing the Fuji Super 8 from Wittner in the US?

Hi Frameworks,
I am very interested in shooting with the Fuji reversal stocks repackaged
by Wittner-Kinotech, the Velvia 50D and the Fujichrome T64. Does anyone
have any experience with these films? I am interested generally, but in
particular about how and where you processed it, and what your feelings are
about the result.

Thanks!

[Frameworks] Q: Beaulieu 6008s service/repair manual?

Greetings frameworks
I am lucky enough to have been given the use of beautiful Beaulieu 6008.
Its been in storage for about 20 years. Does any one have a copy of the
service manual they'd be willing to share? As a student, I'm watching every
penny, so buying one online or on eBay is my last resort. Thanks!

Re: [Frameworks] Renting Sync sound 16mm Rig

2011-09-17 Thread Lars Fuchs
Thanks Steven,

There are sync sound rigs available at school, but for a variety of reasons,
mostly scheduling, there isn't one available on the one weekend I have to
shoot (i'm pretty locked in to that now.) There are MOS rigs, which I could
use in a pinch (it worked for Truffaut, but I'm no Truffaut!) Our production
has $1M insurance and permits from the city. I will try your suggestions,
and I'll call you on Monday about the PL lenses! The other lenses you
mention, are they c-mounts I could use on my BH Filmo 70?

Best regards,
Lars

I was going to say it is odd that there isn't a sync sound rig available
at your school, but these days have changed.

I donated my Aaton to a school a few years ago. Most rental houses will
require insurance, often the school will provide that, so you will have
 to coordinate with your school.

In Manhattan you can check out Film Friends, I don't remember what
their insurance requirements are. You might also try Du-all camera and
Hit and Run Productions. I'm not sure what the requirements are for
them, but if you have insurance (either yourself or through your school)
 then you can go anywhere.

 Hope this helps.

I've a lovely old 5.7mm kinoptik and a 385mm Century Tele athenar, both
in PL mount, if you need some lenses to rent.

A few others I'd pretty much give away (Like $20 bucks) to someone who
 could use them.
