[Frameworks] Projecting for Installation so that people don't walk in front
Frameworkers, I have 2 questions: 1) How do I project onto a wall from above without having people walk in front of it, what angle, would keystoning work for sharp angle? 2) Can you project for 5 or 7 continuous hours? Will that kill the bulb? Anyone with experience with this would be appreciated... Here is mock up of installation about 18 foot space (in this picture below, we would like to project *onto* the west wall by mounting projector on the top of the east wall) Thanks, Rajesh [image: Inline image 1] ___ FrameWorks mailing list FrameWorks@jonasmekasfilms.com https://mailman-mail5.webfaction.com/listinfo/frameworks

Re: [Frameworks] query for those who teach filmmaking
look at ebay, one man's trash is another man's treasure. i think it is good for the old to learn from the young and vice versa. it is a negotiation. That is teaching, not one way. That is constructivist theory and I think it fits right well with experimental philosophies of filmmaking. A BW project etc. Years ago, on the Time Based Media course founded by David Hall at KIAD Maidstone (UK), we used to have the students make no-technology time-based work before they got their hands on camcorders. This generally meant performance, a walk-through environment, sometimes a crawl through environment, eg, where the spectator had to crawl through a tunnel made of cardboard boxes whiles they were subjected to human-generated effects from outside the tunnel, or an object that could only be seen in a series of successive moves etc. Worked well. Talk to them up front about each frame being precious. Hold them responsible for what they shoot. Talk to them about light, color, motion (the camera moving and what is being shot as moving). Keep it extraordinarily essential. If they can learn to appreciate the shot that they are making, if they can think about composition, color, and the semiotic system within each framed rectangle, then they will be able someday to make any kind of film; narrative, doc, or strictly formal. Forget this story telling stuff. That is something else. Teach them about light and motion. You will then have empowered them to use a cinematic tool to convey the content of what ever it is that they want to say to the world. Then they can tell their stories if they have something to say. jk On Wed, Apr 23, 2014 at 3:05 PM, Tim Halloran televis...@hotmail.comwrote: But with our students it actually is speed that's killing creativity, as they become more and more acclimated to working fast--digital cameras, digital editing systems, etc. Ah, it's just terrible--so much junk. Re: [Frameworks] Hi-8 deck/repair
On a related note, any clues on getting a tape out of an old hi-8 camcorder without taking it apart? The thing went kaput on me. Still has power, just the gate won't release tape. I bought another on Craigslist and is working great, but still have tape stuck in the old one. Thanks ahead of time... I never knew anyone who had a digital camcorder who didn't have a broken digital 8 camcorder. If Jeff says they give good results when working, I absolutely take his word for it. But caveat emptor when buying a used one, and don't pay too much. A lot of High-8 camcorders and decks were much better made, but at this late date, the capacitors on anything can be pooped out. So you wouldn't want to buy anything that's been sitting in storage without giving it a good use test first. On any of the better-made units, the transport should be OK if it hasn't been abused, so tape-eating isn't the most likely problem. Just whether it works at all, and has a clean video out. I'm assuming Tony's comment translates as with old tech it can be easier and cheaper to just buy something, rather than hunt down and pay for a rental, which is often true in my experience as well. Helps to know what you're looking for, but I think Steven's been around the block enough to navigate the territory. ___ FrameWorks mailing list FrameWorks@jonasmekasfilms.com https://mailman-mail5.webfaction.com/listinfo/frameworks ___ FrameWorks mailing list FrameWorks@jonasmekasfilms.com https://mailman-mail5.webfaction.com/listinfo/frameworks

The festival is basically completely organized by just two people with full-time jobs and we haven't in the past been able to respond to everyone who submitted. We're working on changing that this year, and will be sending out an email to everyone who's submission we receive, regardless of whether they get in to the festival. As for the tape, we aren't able to return submission materials to filmmakers who send them in. We have absolutely no budget for the festival, as the festival is free to submit to, and any fees for screenings have gone entirely to cover the cost of the screening venue. Due to this, we simply cannot afford the postage (not to mention the time involved) to send submission materials back to filmmakers. I'll make a note of this on our entry form going forward. Additionally, we're only accepting submissionms on NTSC DVDs this year. This festival was started three years ago by a couple of guys who had no experience running a festival. This whole thing is a big learning experience for us, and I hope you'll bear with us. [Frameworks] Send in your clips and ideas for Experimental TV Show
Dear Frameworks and media makers, I am producing an *EXPERIMENTAL TV* show starting in January. The first episode is airing on January 6th at 8 PM, 2012 on RCTV-15 the local public access channel in Rochester, NY. Also the episodes will be available online at http://rctv15.org I am looking for any and all contributions to the show, especially experimental short film/videos, media projects. Of course credit will be given before and after the clip, if it is not already embedded in the video. This is a non-profit endeavor, so there will be no profiting off of, nor compensation for your material, just free promotion of your work. I am looking for content as well as ideas, possible one-time hosts, collaborators that may want to stream material live at that time slot: 8 PM Eastern Standard Time. I was thinking of including also tutorials on how to do some of the editing/ filming tricks seen in the videos. So those are welcome as well. There are really no parameters to this show, hence the name experimental TV. All clips can be sent to me Rajesh Barnabas at rbarna...@gmail.com. But please use big file sending services such as https://www.wetransfer.com/, and https://www.yousendit.com/ to upload your material and then send me the link in an email to rbarna...@gmail.com My aim is to make this as international as possible so please pass this not on to fellow filmmakers wherever.
