To extend that thought a bit: book publishers often take into account potential classroom sales. So there’s more of a predictable market for books covering avant garde film “classics” or earlier experimental film periods than the immediate one. And there’s a certain overlaps with “artist media” or “artist video” work, esp. in the gallery art world were it seems almost a requirement now to be part of a show.
