I have run above mentioned estar based wittnerchrome/aviphot 200D through
an Auricon Cine Voice without incident. I was less than impressed with the
color unfortunately.

Hi Charlotte,

As mentioned in a post earlier this week I have ran several different
polyester stocks through my bolex with out a problem.

I have also bipacked a polyester and acetate a couple of times. The trick
is to line up the sproket holes which you can do just as your about to load
by cutting the end of the film together while the sprokets are synched up.

In both shooting and printing/bipacking I've shot at 12fps to in theory let
in more light and I guess now that you mention it, keep it slow in case of
a problem, particularly with printing.

Good luck!

Re: [Frameworks] Polyester Base Stocks

2017-08-19 Thread Scott Dorsey
I have run polyester stock, both long and short, through a Bolex H16.

The good news about this is that the spring on the H16 doesn't really have
a lot of torque, so it's not apt to tear things up when the camera jams as
much as with some other cameras.

In addition, the Bolex doesn't have a registration pin, which both makes
jamming less likely to happen when something goes wrong, and is one less
thing to damage if the camera does jam.

Now, I would not personally say "go ahead and take the risk" because there's
still a good bit of risk and it is still up to you. I have done it on a few
occasions and it has been okay but it is your decision to take that risk.

Right now if you want to shoot color reversal, the only available stock is
estar-based. So you don't get much choice. We're still hoping for Ferrania
to change that but things are happening slowly.

Re: [Frameworks] Polyester Base Stocks

2017-08-19 Thread Freya

I've not tried it but is it for hand cranking the bolex?

It might be a different matter depending on how you drive the bolex because the
Polyester film is much stronger than acetate
which sounds like a positive thing until something goes wrong and your motor is
still trying to drive the polyester film through your camera! There are a lot
of options for driving the Bolex so it might depend what you have in mind.

I've not tried it personally though and while you hear horror stories about
polyester base film in cameras it would seem that hand cranking the film should
be more safe in theory because there is more chance to feel if something has
gone wrong and to stop cranking.

Do you mean bipacking polyester alongside acetate. I guess if the two films are
different pitches (print/neg) that might also work in your favour. It does
sound scary though. ;)

I send the best of luck out to your friend. I hope it goes well for her. ;)

 Hey Frameworks!
Has anybody used a stock on polyester base
instead of acetate in their Bolex? What was your
 experience?
And also, has anyone tried bi-packing
 it?
Asking for a friend. No, really. :)
