2019-03-03 Thread Adeena Mey
Dear all,

Jumping in the discussion late which I only noticed thanks to Mark's email.

The Vienna program looks terrific (like all the others!), shame I'm seeing this
too late!

Esperanza, Expanded Cinema is definitely one of our main interests. See for
instance:

http://www.decadrages.ch/cinema-elargi-n-21-22-hiver-2012

http://old.spoutnik.info/evenement/2804-european-expanded-cinema

Other researchers based in Europe that come to mind: Maxa Zoller, Lucy
Reynolds, Volker Pantenburg and of course Malcolm Le Grice.

Happy to discuss this further in pm.

Best wishes,

Adeena

I am late to respond to this thread, but the many expanded cinema events that
I’ve organised over the years may be of interest.

In 2004 & 2006 there were two large surveys of expanded cinema, in Stuttgart
and Dortmund, with many of the artists/filmmakers present to perform their work.
http://markwebber.org.uk/archive/category/seasons/expanded-cinema-2004/
http://markwebber.org.uk/archive/category/seasons/expanded-cinema-2006

I’ve also included British expanded cinema and multi-screen films within the
many different iterations of the “Shoot Shoot Shoot” series, and in the weekend
of Filmaktion performances at Raven Row, London, in 2017.
http://markwebber.org.uk/archive/tag/shoot-shoot-shoot/
https://lux.org.uk/event/filmaktion-raven-row-march-2017

Details of all this and more can be found in the archive of my curatorial work
at www.markwebber.org.uk<http://www.markwebber.org.uk>

For those in Vienna, several programmes of work from the early years of the
London Film-Makers’ Co-op (inc. expanded cinema and double screen films) will
be presented by the Filmmuseum form 14-17 March 2019.

Yes, it was Stan Vanderbeek. He also coined, in 1965, the term “Culture
Intercom” — planetarium-like domes with multiple projections of live satellite
feeds from around the world. His dome in upstate New York was finished in 1967
just after Sputnik was launched, but of course had to simulate video feeds with
16mm.

And if any of you think could fit here please let me know.

Thank you.

Absolutely, they aren't exclusive and I totally identify with this, but I'm
trying to communicate the preferences of the organiser as best as I can.

Indeed, Nicky, who lives in Brussels (and this is the city where the seminar
would take place) is in the short list of candidates I proposed. Thanks, Rob,
will pass on your name too! Of course, your work is utterly appropriate.

Thank you too, Steven!

Best wishes,

Hi Esperanza,

I would recommend Erik Bullot, who had an excellent lecture on expanded cinema
during BIM in Buenos Aires last year. Hope it helps.

Where is your colleague located, and by ³not American² do you mean, not of
the USA, or not of anywhere in the Americas?

Artists and academics/writers are not necessarily exclusive - thinking of
myself, and Nicky Hamlyn in UK. The links with sound, noise, music & expanded
