 2005, India/USA, Sonali Gulati, 27 min.

In this insightful documentary, filmmaker Sonali Gulati explores complex
issues of globalization; capitalism and identity through a witty and personal
account of her journey into India’s call centers. Gulati, herself an Indian
immigrant living in the US, explores the fascinating ramifications of
outsourcing telephone service jobs to India, including how native
telemarketers take on Western names and accents to take calls from the US, UK
and Australia. A fresh juxtaposition of animation, archival footage, live
action shots and narrative work highlight the filmmaker’s presence and reveal
the performativity aspects of her subjects. With fascinating observations on
how call centers affect the Indian culture and economy, Nalini by Day, Nancy
by Night raises important questions about the complicated consequences of
 globalization.

[Frameworks] E6 kit for super8 hand processing

2012-11-14 Thread Sonali
I used to use the TMax kit by Kodak to hand process super8mm film but now that
that's been discontinued I'm planning on using the E6 kit.
Any pieces of advice?

Also if I want to experiment solarizing the film, should I do that after the
first developer or after the color developer?

Would love any piece of advice/ recipes from Frameworkers as I play around with
this tomorrow.

Thanks in advance

Re: [Frameworks] DCP

2015-06-24 Thread Sonali
Yes I just got a DCP made for a short film (11 min 32 seconds) from

Donovan Kosters
Digital Cinema Services

office: 323.460.4649 | mobile: 405.642.4025

I got a discount because they were offering everyone who was screening at IFFLA
(Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles) a discount. If I recall correctly I paid
$150 for the first copy and then $30 for additional copies (which was basically
the cost of the flash drive).

 Hi Shumona:
I did it once for a film festival. and it works.
you can try to use the software open DCP:
 https://www.opendcp.org/
After you install the software you can follow the instruction tutorial:
 Part 1: https://vimeo.com/69174836
 Part 2: https://vimeo.com/69174837
 Part 3: https://vimeo.com/69176054
Only problem will be that it is impossible for embed subtitles into the DCP
 package.
if you don't need subtitles, it will be perfect to use open DCP. The software
 is free.
also you will need a good usb stick for the DCP, and a Linux computer to put
the package to the usb stick.
because almost all the cinema computer is Linux system. anyway, if you know
anyone geeky enough to have a linux system installed it will be easier to ask
them to help after the DCP package is ready.
 good luck!
 cheers
