Yup, that's what so funny about it, it works fine for the other disk:

 Hello there, Vitalis!

 I'm sorry you're having problems - I typically don't use the graphical
tools to configure the database, so I hadn't caught this problem. I
got a workaround from this problem from someone else which might work -
give it a shot and let me know how it works!

(Sorry for the panic! :-[ )

 --8--
 Solution was to
 a) downlaod the Download Blackdown JRE 1.1.8 v3 from
 http://www.blackdown.org/java-linux/mirrors.html
  (Must be the JRE version...)
 b) Install under /usr/local
 c) Remove the $ORACLE_HOME/JRE link
 d) Create a symbolic link under $ORACLE_HOME called
JRE to the /usr/local/jre118_v3 dir (e.g. ln -s
 /usr/local/jre118_v3 JRE)

If this works for you, I will append this information to the document

Also, if you could try

and then try to run the commands

and send me the console output, you should be able to grab it

I'm unsure if this is actually a problem but occasionally it prints a
message right before rebooting about loosing an interrupt. I'll try to
  get more info.

I'm getting missing interrupt messages from ATAng on one of my older
PPro200 machines that was stable with a June kernel, but is not with
an October 22 kernel. I don't know that they're related, and I
haven't had a chance to look more deeply into it yet.

These are the only suspicious messages that make it into the log. The
de0-related messages have always happened with no harm.

Now it hangs hard every day. It doesn't panic or drop into DDB.

ATAng: completely broken? Trouble with HPT370 on 4.9RC3

2003-10-26 Thread Gabriel Ambuehl
ATAng seems to cause nothing but trouble for me. It won't recognize
HPT370 arrays at all (whereas older 5.1 Kernels work perfectly) and
just goes on complaining it can't mount root from it. Promise RAID is
somewhat better (can mount root from it but goes on telling me one of
the subdisks is down when it clearly isn't) and finally it doesn't seem
to even recognize disks connected to a VIA VT8325 southbridge at all.
Silicon Image SATA seems to work at times (no RAID at all though) but
then starts throwing timeouts under make buildworld loads whereas CVSUP
works nicely as far as I can tell.

Further, 4.9RC3 also gives me headaches with HPT370 but seems to work ok with
Promise RAID, didn't try SATA or VT8325 so far. I'd definitely vote
for delaying 4.9 until some more people have beaten on the ATA drivers
in there (I don't have any Intel machines so I can't check those chipsets).

I'll try the same system with 4.8 later today and report if its the
hardware or the software (I'd guess the latter as older 5.1 builds
worked nicely).

What kind of problems are you seeing with 4.9RC?

Setup says there are no disks in the system!

 I am running a rocketraid100 (HPT370) card fine on it in RAID1
mode. What kind of system are you running the HPT370 on?

Gigabyte VAXP KT400, Realtek LAN, Promise FT133 Lite (that one works
with 4.9 RC and RAID1), Sil 3*** SATA RAID,
Athlon XP 2400+
2x Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 80G ATA100 drives
Adaptac ATA1200A HPT370 PCI card
Not much luck on Asus KM400 chipset based board, either.

 Gabriel

bge phy read timeout possibly solved / now make world broken (Re: bge0 driver PHY read timeout and pccardd not finding PCMCIA card, DELL Latitude D600, with current of yesterday)

2003-10-26 Thread Andreas Klemm

Luckily I had some old -current SNAP CDs.

1. Tried a snap from Aug 31:
No problems with bge0 interface with -curremnt

2. Updated sources to -current of today.
Compiled and installed only new actual kernel.
   No problems with bge0 interface.

Currently am trying to do make world but it
fails in stage 4.2 - building libraries:

lib/libypclnt/ypclnt_connect.c

Best regards

Nforce 2 Audio driver

2003-10-26 Thread Rubin Sivabalan
hi andrew,
My name is rubin. i read your reply at nvidia.ko freezes system
in -current. you seem to know alot about computer and i was wondering if you
could help me. I have a abit nf7 mobo with the nforce2 MCP southbridge.
The nf7 has an APU(Audio processing unit); this is evident when
running the nvidia drivers and hence producing impressive 2.1 sounds ( APU
provides features like 256 voice, 64 3d voice, DX8 submixer and bla bla bla
). Both the nf7 and nf7-S (MCP-T southbridge) have the realtek DAC( Digital
Anolog Converter). This changes the digital signals from the APU to anolog
signals used by the speakers.
Unfortunately they have disabled the nForce MCP Audio
Processing Unit (Dolby Digital) driver on the mobo and this is only enabled
on the nf7-s mobos running MCP-T. As a result i only get 2 channel sound.
now if i'd know about this i wouldn't have bought it, but even the damn abit
nf7 box had the word Soundstorm on it. I just want 6 channel audio that
works all the time with my games and music(realtek drivers don't have EAX
and doesn't give 6 channel with winamp). I'm a student an on a very tight
budget. Could you pls teach me to hack the Nvidia unified audio drivers so i
can get it to install the MCP-T Audio Processing Unit (Dolby Digital) driver
and hence get 6 channel audio. If that won't work could you tell me what i
need to do to get 6 channel audio without resorting to realtek drivers.
Please i'm really disappointed that abit and nvidia aren't helping and i
invested alot of money on decent speakers. Please help.

Doh! I forgot to say it's obviously only because the
/usr/share/examples/bluetooth directory does not exist and needs making.
The installworld works fine if you make this manually, but it should be
part of the installworld process.

Matt.

Re: Sysinstall's fdisk/disklabel should be improved

2003-10-26 Thread Bill Moran
Ulrich Spoerlein wrote:
Ok, this is perhaps pretty low priority to all of you (even to me), but
since I installed 2 new 5.1 systems this week I cursed sysinstall
several times!
First of all, the Partition Editor has the 'A' option to use all of the
available HDD space. It creates a DOS-compatible slice (starting at
sector 63 and ending on cylinder boundary). This is completely useless
on servers and the help menu says that sysinstall will ask if it should
create a DOS-compatible slice or not. However no such question is ever
asked.
Use F for DD mode. This is different than A and will ask the
question you expected.

ld-elf.so.1 trouble on sparc64

2003-10-26 Thread Koop Mast
Hi,

While looking for programs that don't run on sparc64, I came across the
Segmentation fault below.
This happened at the start (before the GUI shows up) with evolution,
xchat and gaim.
I noticed that launching the program from gdb makes it more likely to
happen.

I'm willing to test patches, or supply more info.

Thanks,

-Koop

 Is this OK ?

Sort of. This is an error that has actually been happening for a long
time, and I'm guessing is the reason for the issues with KDE and the
DRI, but it's been a debug message instead of an error. It's something
that needs to get fixed, but doesn't mean things have gotten worse since
the previous import. It's the highest thing on my list of FreeBSD DRM
issues to fix.

I wasn't expecting the error to be as common as it is. I admit that I
didn't really start KDE up fully, because it's a read-only netboot
system, which KDE didn't like very much.

It doesn't happen on another machine running a kernel built

I'll leave it; otherwise any pointers would be of use. FWIW, it dies

Hello Warner,

Oops, my bad. Please review attched patch. If there are no objections
I will commit it in a few hours. Also if someone else could commit it
sooner it would be nice :)

thanks,

I have all four files you commited in the last few hours so it looks

Doh! I forgot to say it's obviously only because the
/usr/share/examples/bluetooth directory does not exist and needs making.
The installworld works fine if you make this manually, but it should be
 part of the installworld process.

 Matt.

Re: Nforce 2 Audio driver

2003-10-26 Thread Maxim M. Kazachek
hi andrew,
My name is rubin. i read your reply at nvidia.ko freezes system
in -current. you seem to know alot about computer and i was wondering if you
could help me.

You do not have SoundStorm technology on your motherboard. NF7-S uses
MCP-T, while NF7 and NF7-M (with integrated video) uses MCP, which, in
oppose to MCP-T have no interface to second network card (based on 3COM's
chip), have no IEEE-1394A (aka Firewire) and have no SoundStorm
Technology. Realtek's ALC650, that is used on that motherboards is capable
to switch to 6 channel mode in Windows driver... Have no any idea how to
do that in FreeBSD.

   Sincerely, Maxim M. Kazachek

lock order reversal on 5.1

2003-10-26 Thread Nick H -- Network Operations
Got this earlier tonight on a box of mine... was testing a possible upgrade
from 4.8 to 5.1 on a box to act as my router...

dc0: promiscuous mode enabled
Oct 26 20:32:37 router kernel: dc0: promiscuous mode enabled
lock order reversal
1st 0xc05a4600 bpf global lock (bpf global lock) @
/usr/src/sys/net/bpf.c:375
 2nd 0xc1f427bc dc0 (network driver) @ /usr/src/sys/pci/if_dc.c:3543
dc0: promiscuous mode disabled
Oct 26 20:32:45 router kernel: dc0: promiscuous mode disabled

I'll cvsup again here in a bit and rebuild yet again. I am seeing a version
difference on this box and a box I have that builds rather frequently. Im
thinking that it's fixed, but figured a heads up wouldn't hurt. I was
attempting to go into tcpdump (with nnxXv set as flags). If the new sources
dont fix it, I'll email an update, else just assume that it's all fixed.

Nick H.

More problems with cam and devices

2003-10-26 Thread Greg 'groggy' Lehey
Following on from the panic on a week-old -CURRENT, I note that
camcontrol rescan doesn't do the right thing either. On yesterday's
kernel, I did:

- remove a disk from a string

- run camcontrol rescan. No change Re-scan of bus 1 was successful,
but the device entry was still there.

- Ran disk^H^H^H^Hbsdlabel against the drive. For a while, nothing
happened. Then I got the messages:

  (da2:sym1:0:2:0): lost device
  (da2:sym1:0:2:0): removing device entry
  GEOM: destroy disk da2 dp=0xc2123450

After that, everything hangs.

This is repeatable, and I can take a dump if anybody's interested.

Re: Sysinstall's fdisk/disklabel should be improved

First of all, the Partition Editor has the 'A' option to use all of the
available HDD space. It creates a DOS-compatible slice (starting at
sector 63 and ending on cylinder boundary). This is completely useless
on servers and the help menu says that sysinstall will ask if it should
create a DOS-compatible slice or not. However no such question is ever
 asked.

Err..
What's wrong with it?
Surely DOS compatible is fine?!

The documentation is probably out of date, but it still works and partitions
your disk just fine. (It partitions mine just fine for a huge variety of
machines)
