If I remove the CDROM from the base station, so the ATA channel is still there, but with no devices, I have no problems booting. I don't have other devices (like harddisks) to test this behaviour with. BCM4401 network driver?
Hi everybody, is there anyone working on a driver for the Broadcom BCM4401 ethernet chipset? This is for example used on newer ASUS boards. There is a GPL'd Linux driver available on the net which could be a base. I could not find any pointers to people working on a driver for FreeBSD on the web by now. In /etc/devd.conf I added the following lines for my Lucent Orinoco Gold
Card (which works just fine when I plug in the pccard after the system
has started):

This netconf script (yeah, I know, /usr/local/etc is not a good place
for something like that) is something I wrote which get's a bunch of
small config files for each known wireless network and then configures
the card to the first matching WLAN. This script logs to syslog and so I
know it is not even started on bootup, if the card is already plugged
in. If I take the pccard out and put it back in again, everything works
fine. Any ideas?

Question about devd concept
Hi, I'm currently experimenting with 5-CURRENT on my Notebook an have a question regarding the concept of devd. With 4-STABLE I had pccardd running. Whenever a pccard was inserted I had pccardd starting the corresponding scripts. I have configured devd to do so now (especially for my wavelan pccard). So far everything works, except for one case: When the pccard is already inserted during boot, devd does not recognize the card as newly inserted device (of course, it's already there). So I have currently setup a script in /usr/local/etc/rc.d which starts the script corresponding to the wavelan pccard, if interface wi0 is found during boot. I think this cannot be the considered solution for that problem? What am I missing about the concept of devd? Happens quite often. Anyone else has noticed this ? I had that problem three times: Once, when I tried using a K6-3 on my Gigabyte GA5-AX Motherboard. They just weren't working together, when I changed back to a K6-2 (both tried at 350 MHz) the problems disappeared. The K6-3 works fine now in another machine (MSI Mainboard or something like that). Another time something like that happened, when my cooler failed. On one of my old Suns I had a similar problem, when one of the SIMMs was damaged. So, get on and check 'ya hardware.
