HEADSUP: Final call for NODEVFS and NO_GEOM options

2003-01-26 Thread Poul-Henning Kamp

This is the final call for users using NODEVFS and NO_GEOM options!

The TRB@ has decided that there is (too) little value in delaying
the removal of these two options from the system until march 1st
as I had initially planned, so the timeline has been changed.

Unless showstoppers are reported, I will remove the NODEVFS and
NO_GEOM options from sys/conf on tuesday 28th january, and from
this date they will no longer be considered options in FreeBSD
-current.

After some $deltaT, probably two weeks, I will remove the code which
the removal of these options makes obsolete.

I marvel at my own temerity. I normally would never presume to speak
for Bruce Evans but I haven't seen a post from him for many days. I
think he would probably object to eliminating NO_GEOM based on his
past postings.

If I presume too much by speaking for him I humbly apologize.

BTW, I have no opinion on the subject but I've been using GEOM and
DEVFS for quite awhile with no problems that I can detect.
