I moved away from Intel because of there design flaws.

I just built an AMD server box from desktop parts (plus a 3U rack case), which
has all you are asking for:

- motherboard Asrock Rack X470D4U

- CPU Ryzen, like Ryzen 7 3700X or smaller

The idle power consumption is about 50 Watts.

Matisse Ridge CPU should support ECC RAM.

As compared to supermicro’s, the IPMI works flawless and shows a clear design.

Hi,

I used to have a SuperMicro server board and, since I no longer require BMC,
I've replaced it with an ASUS B350 Prime board about 2 years ago.

I have a Ryzen 2600, a separate 2 port GbE card, and it has everything else you
have.

Outfitted like this, it's less than just a server board. I have 3400G
processor (you could go even lower to the 2xxx series for less expense.

It's much cheaper to have Ryzen, non-ECC memory, desktop motherboard, etc. than
just buying a server class motherboard.

Server class will be 2-4x more.

The bad news.

No one is making server class boards off the current gen SoC based x86
stuff like they did with the atom c2000 based stuff.

I ended up with my current board because we were evaluating C2000 at work, and
we used this board to do it. It worked well at the office, so I picked one up
for myself.

(As luck would have it, we started using C2000 late enough that the errata had
already been discovered and fixed by the time we started shipping, so our
products don't have this problem.)

I had planned to move forward to one of the follow-on SoCs, but I wasn't able
to find any the last I checked.

But! I just checked ark.intel.com for Denverton (the codename of the follow-on
SoC), and found quite a few of them; it looks like they're branded as "C3000".

And I was able to find quite a few "C3000"s at Supermicro:

https://www.supermicro.com/en/search?Search=C3000

I'll look more closely tonight, but those seem to be in the right ballpark at
least.

If you look for J4000/J5000 based boards all there is are media server
boards with no BMC, 1 SODIMM slot, two SATA ports, and a single PCI-e slot.

"Media server" and "two SATA ports"...

You’ll need to step up to something like a SM X11SPA which is a lot of
board to get what you want.

Yeah, I don't need a full-blown Xeon for this. Heck, I don't even want
something with a *socket* for this! :-)

Supposedly the ARM ecosystem was going to fill that void (or pushed x86 out
depending on who you ask) but I don’t really know if that happened.

Indeed. Alas, neither the arm64 hardware nor our arm64 support seems to be
quite there yet. :-(

Thanks!

Hi.

Not exactly MB suggestion, but offer to expand your look on requirements.

6x/8x SATA may be replaced with one SAS board (some of LSI Logic based on
PCI-E) and enough number of cables

For example:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0085FT1LQ

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B012BPLYJC

Thanks for the pointers.

I have a (admittedly idiosyncratic) dislike of SCSI. It's probably because I've
been writing code to work with (S)ATA for fifteen years, and haven't really
wrapped my head around SAS.

I'll keep that in mind though, if I can't find anything that suits my needs.

Thanks again,

Just got one of these boards too. Are you able to get ipmi sol working
fully ? For some reason, it decided to redirect the BIOS to serial, and
then the post boot up to sol ?!?  Other than that, it does seem like a
decent board so far, especially with the cost and availability of the CPUs
