Re: [CFT] UNIQUENAME patches
On 17/06/2012 21:11, Mel Flynn wrote: I really don't see what the problem is with setting uniquename to: ${PORTORIGIN:S,/,__,}+${CHILDPORTNAME} or: databases/mysql55+server databases/mysql55+client etc. And so you want to forbid + as a character for PORTNAME? So you would need to fix all the ports having a + in the name. No. Ports all have a version starting with a minus sign, yet we have ports with a minus sign in it. This is the same principle. The plus or whatever char you pick, should be the first one from the right side after the version part. What's in between the plus and the start of version is subpackage/childport name. Deciding what character or characters to use to distinguish the sub-port part of the package name from the rest is a particularly bikeshedable point. Virtually any of the punctuation on the keyboard could be used, and it really won't make much difference in the end what gets chosen. Personally I feel it should be the sole choice of the people that do the work to implement sub-ports. On the point of how UNIQUENAME should be defined, your arguments have some merit, but I'm not convinced. On balance, after considering such points I preferred what I came up with (but then I would say that, wouldn't I?) Cheers, Matthew -- Dr Matthew J Seaman MA, D.Phil. custom license on new port?
got a new port. submitted by the copyright owner and author. for reference, pr ports/168832 there is no LICENSE= in the Makefile, no LICENSE.txt in the distribution, but it does have the attached in the main.c file. Q: should I ask him to select one of the standard FreeBSD/GPL licenses (and edit his source )? Q: or do I do a 'post-patch' and head -27 bsdinfo.c $[FILESDIR}/LICENSE.txt and add LICENSE= ${FILESDIR}/LICENSE.txt ? (LICENSE TYPE EULA?) what is the policy on custom licenses? it wants this in binary form (pkgs, cd, etc), so something has to be done. /* * Copyright (c) 2011 Jakub SzafraĆski s...@pirc.pl * * All rights reserved. * * Redistribution and use in source and binary forms, with or without * modification, are permitted provided that the following conditions * are met: * 1. Re: TeXLive merge into FreeBSD ports tree - FreeBSD project idea
Hi all, Summary of below. I have started an effort to get TeXLive into the FreeBSD ports. See github.com/DragonSA/texlive for details. Volunteers welcome. On Sunday, 17 June 2012 22:04:15 David Schultz wrote: On Sun, Jun 17, 2012, Jan Henrik Sylvester wrote: Even with a knob instead of checking if print/texlive-core is installed, it would put a lot of mess into the ports tree. Some maintainers will not agree to introduce these conditions, if there is no general agreement that we want to transition to TeXLive that way. teTeX hasn't been updated since 2006 and the maintainer of teTeX has discontinued development and recommends using TeXLive. Undoubtably updating the TeXLive will break some things but the same could be said about teTeX if an update existed. Are there any people who don't want to migrate to TeXLive? As far as I remember, both romain@ and hrs@ have stated that they do not want both teTeX and TeXLive in the tree concurrently. Looking through the list of bundled packages for TeXLive it will be quite difficult to have both TeXLive and teTeX in the tree concurrently. There are a group of support ports, such as xdvik and ptex that require special integration into either teTeX or TeXLive. To switch between either will require reinstalling many dependencies, not just the TeXLive or teTeX ports. With that said, it is not impossible nor, I think, will it impose a big maintenance burden. In that case, it sounds like using TeXLive in FreeBSD will be a bit tricky until someone steps in and does all the work required for integration. Unfortunately I'm a bit time-constrained for the next few months, but I do use TeXLive and would be happy to test any proposed patches. I have started working on just this, getting TeXLive into FreeBSD ports. It is still early days and I have only two monolithic ports, with texlive-base requiring lots of love. I believe my work is in a state ready for initial testing (verifying the ports) and some feedback. Some open questions are: - how to split texlive-texmf (OpenBSD has an approach) - how to handle bundled software that has existing (sometimes outdated) ports Also, I am looking for a sponsor: someone who will commit the ports when they are ready, and to provide feedback so that the ports may get to a ready state. For details about the project, and to get the ports, please see: github.com/DragonSA/texlive Regards P.S. I don't know if it's considered unused by the ports system committers, but as a port maintainer and a user I actually get some use from the license framework. As such, I hope the plan is not to remove the license framework, but even if there is such a plan I think it would probably be a good idea to specify license in the port Makefile when at all reasonable to do so, considering how simple it is to do so and the fact it may be useful to some users. -- Chad Perrin [ original content licensed OWL: http://owl.apotheon.org ] ___ freebsd-ports@freebsd.org mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-ports To unsubscribe, send any mail to freebsd-ports-unsubscr...@freebsd.org
