Re: replacing ffserver?

Let me restate the issue.
My goal is to be able to have someone visit (e.g.)
"https://webcam.example.com:; and have the feed from the webcam
appear in their browser.
What I have at the moment:

a) a system running:

FreeBSD 13.0-CURRENT #0 r365372: Sun Sep 6 10:51:26 EDT 2020 amd64

b) a working webcam
c) the latest version of webcamd, which finds the webcam and
creates video0 and video1.

So: I need to make the contents of video0 available on port .
I have been unable to find a concise current method for how to do
that. (Including anything with Apache, which seems like an obvious
step.)

Let me be more precise.
I have a list of 110 installed ports flavored "py27-".
For each port I want to know:

a) according to the Makefile, is it possible to build this with
python-37? (Or even -36?)
b) will doing so break any port for which this port is a dependency?

I understand the only way to answer (b) may be by trial-and-error;
fair enough. But if I can identify all those with no dependants
... that would be a start.

Yes ... but not much. I use portmaster and stuff mostly Just

Not only does it require kernel sources, but those sources need

[I'm posting this here because "ports@" is the listed

On a system running:

FreeBSD 13.0-CURRENT #0 r354131: Mon Oct 28 17:27:33 EDT 2019 amd64

with the ports tree updated every night, for about the last week
"make index" has failed because:

and therefore "pkg version" also fails.

Short answer: probably never.
Longer answer:
1) it is (I believe) no longer developed/maintained upstream.
2) the port does not have a local maintainer.
3) it has a long list of security issues, which persisted for
months if not years.

I, too, will miss it. But in the larger scheme of things this
probably the path of wisdom.

maintainership, and contribute patches - thankyouthankyouthankyou)

Depending on the ports you need, it may not be possible to
completely move from 2.7 to 3.6. I tried to do this within the last
few months and was blocked by (among other things) one port which
_absolutely insisted_ on python 2.7. (Don't remember which one off
the top of my head.)
(It would be really useful if someone (not me!) wrote a script
that identified any ports which run on non-default versions which can
be safely upgraded.)

I was recently told the reason we need devel/llvm70 is the llvm
in base has - for reasons above my pay grade, but probably not above
yours - certain components disabled which are required by various
ports.
If 8.0 (in base) has those components enabled, then the odds are
good I can remove devel/llvm[67]0 - recovering almost 700 mb of disk
space and simplifying debugging efforts.
Major win for me; probably for others.

Hello all,

Poudriere tests of all 'USES=emacs' ports with the latest editors/emacs
(version 26.1) resulted in the following errors in either 10i386 or
11amd64 jails:

editors/tamago (hrs@)

I'm investigating breakage of this port and submitted report of
current status as following bug report.

Bug 228812 - editors/tamago: This port is broken only with restrected conditions
https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=228812

Summary of report is

* This port is not broken with real environment (i.e. not
poudriere). it applies to all flavors.
* With poudriere full, canna and nox are broken. devel_full and
   devel_nox are not.
* Accoding to the error message of poudriere build log, source of
build failure may be bug of Emacs 26.1.

I'll continue to investigating this problem. But to be honest I'm far
from emacs lisp expert, and I know almost nothing about inside of
Emacs either.

So please give me hint, idea, suggestion, etc if something hits upon
you about this problem.

    Additional data points:
    1) Under Emacs, vm (mail reader viewmail) compiled for Emacs 25.3
does not work for 26.1.
    2) Attempts to compile vm-8.2.0b under Emacs 26.1 fail due to
changes in how Emacs
processes Lisp.  This is a registered bug, at
"https://bugs.launchpad.net/vm/+bug/1763377;.
There is a patch, which at least in my case fixes one problem

"Insufficient data, Captain."
I followed the instructions for portmaster from
UPDATING/20171103, only changing the version numbers.
Running "pkg shlib -qR libperl.so.5.26" now produces 13 items;
this makes your explanation plausible, if not authoritative.

Following this path seems to have fixed things.
Warning to anyone who does this:
On a system with over 850 ports, 32 starting with "p5-", the
list of dependent ports portmaster created from
"pkg shlib -qR libperl.so.5.24" was over 200, including things like
FireFox and llvm50 (llvm is required for mesa-dri). Total rebuild

problem installing ports

2016-08-26 Thread Robert Huff

So ...
I replaced my 10.3/i386 system with:

r...@releng2.nyi.freebsd.org:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC amd64

and kernel+world are working.
Installing ports is a different matter.
1) I created /usr/ports and /usr/doc.
2) I "self-installed" pkg; this brought with it

apr-1.5.2.1.5.4_1
db5-5.3.28_4
expat-2.1.1_2
gdbm-1.12
gettext-runtime-0.19.8.1
indexinfo-0.2.4
readline-6.3.8
serf-1.3.8_1
sqlite3-3.13.0

building broken after today's update

2014-09-20 Thread Robert Huff
(This (as far as I know) is something I've screwed up, not a problem
with the ports build process; I just need some help setting things right.)

After a morning of updating various ports, the build process is
broken; specifically, it _appears_ to involve make.
 Test case:

huff@ cd /usr/ports/misc/pciids
huff@ make clean

... and nothing happens.
After waiting a few seconds start hitting 'ctl-t' and get this:

reinstalling from portmaster backup package

2014-09-03 Thread Robert Huff
Through a series of steps I won't get into. I deinstalled port X.1 in
anticiparion of installing X,2. However, X.2 (built fine but) failed to
install. (I'm working on that.)
Fortunately, I have a portmaster backup of X.1 which I need to
reinstall in the meantime. Unfortunately, I find the portmaster
documentation ... obscure ... on how to do this. (OK, so I'm used to
ports not packages.)
Can someone tell me the command to reinstall (and reregister) X.1?

These programs depend on openldap-client; however I have

Is there a way to tell 'pkg install' Yeah, I know it
says openldap-client, but the same version of
openldap-sasl-client satisfies the dependency? Or do I just use 'pkg
install -M' and hope everything works?

OK, Obi-wan - what's the replacement for:

a) portsclean with the C, D (single and double), and L
options? (Use no more than two commands.)
b) pkg_sort ?

With these, I will cheerfully delete portupgrade.

Re: pkgng vs. portupgrade reporting ports outdated

2014-04-04 Thread Robert Huff

sindrome sindr...@gmail.com

With pkgng I issue a 'pkg update' followed by a 'pkg upgrade' and it
shows me x number of ports that need to be updated. So it updates
and completes just fine and of course it's much faster than building
  from source.

So I still keep my source, ports and docs in sync via svn update.
Here's where the issue comes in. After I have done the pkg upgrade
and it tells me all is up-to-date, the 'pkg_version -v |grep needs'
command shows me dozens of ports that are not up-to-date and further
the versions it's saying I have installed are not consistent with
the versions that were installed through pkgng.

It is my understanding it is generally a bad idea to mix the old and
new package systems. (It can be done, but it's beyond my pay grade and
if you're asking this I'd guess it is - at the moment - beyond yours.)
pkgng can do almost everything the old system can, and does it better.
(Now if it only had a replacement for pkg_sort ) Each records its
status quo in distinct and incompatible ways.

When I want to know what needs updating I use:

huff pkg version -v -l \

which I can send either to a file, or to e-mail, or to a script wrapped
around portmaster.

Does this help?

Respectfully,

Robert Huff

problem with vulnxml.xml after system update

2014-03-17 Thread Robert Huff

After updating a system to:

FreeBSD 11.0-CURRENT #0 r263263: Mon Mar 17 15:09:18 EDT 2014 amd64

all attempts to build ports hit this:

pkg-static: unable to open vulnxml file /var/db/pkg/vuln.xml: Invalid
argument

I've never seen this before; it isn't mentioned in src/UPDATING or
ports/UPDATING; and googling
produces nothing useful.
The file exists, has size zero, is owned by root:wheel.
What have I missed?

about the Berkeley DB 4 cleanup

2013-12-16 Thread Robert Huff

[Ref: ports/UPDATING 20131214]

I am an indirect user of BDB (currently ver 4.3); pkg version
-r reports

redland-1.0.16
ruby19-bdb43-0.6.6_1
webalizer-geoip-2.23.8
php5-5.4.21
xmms-1.2.11_20
libreoffice-4.0.6_1
gramps-3.3.0_2
docproj-2.0_1
librcc-0.2.12
apr-1.4.8.1.5.3
apache24-2.4.6_1
subversion-1.8.5
py27-bsddb-2.7.6_3
portupgrade-2.4.11.3,2

as being dependant, and I suspect the list will be longer with
each passing day.
While I appreciate the work done to move the universe along,
the upgrade instructions included (by reference) are partially past
my understanding and _way_ beyond my comfort zone. (And I suspect
I'm not alone.)
So: what explodes if I simply set WITH_BDB_VER=5, shutdown my
services, and rebuild?
Alternately: does someone whose comfort zone this is well
within) have a script that will take care of things?

In general, the answer will be: use qt4-* ports :-(

I am happy to know arts is an indirect dependency (probably

qt3 - qt4 question

2013-05-13 Thread Robert Huff

1) I have x11-toolkits/qt-copy (part of qt33) installed, and
at least a dozen ports that depend on it.
2) Attempts to upgrade devel/qt4-corelibs fail on complaints
the two conflict.
3) I cannot find a qt4-copy, and there is no mention of this
in UPDATING going back three years.
4) What is the correct successor for qt-copy? Is that
functionality been included elsewhere in qt4?
5) Is there a way to determine which (if any) of the dependent
ports will have issues with the conversion? Right now the choice
seems to be between a) inspecting the Makefiles (my make-fu is at
the slapstick comedy level) and b) just doing and hoping nothing
breaks.
