Good question. I guess I was thinking that mplayer2 was one
better than mplayer.

And why is this port still in the tree?

Another good question...

And why is this port still in the tree?

* snapshot is from 2013-04-28
* github.com/mplayer2/mplayer2 is no longer updated
* http://git.mplayer2.org does not exist
* mplayer2.org redirects to http://www3.mplayer2.org (no content!)

The man page for pkg(8) does not explicitly state that the sub-commands
to pkg have their own man page.

SEE ALSO is not an indication that you should read those bits to find
out about flags for pkg(8) commands.

Just sayin. I was gonna delete this bit, but might keep it:

For example:

% man 1 ls

"SEE ALSO ... xo_parse_args(3)..."  ??? why?

pkg has plenty of manpages all of which are specified in the "SEE ALSO" section
of pkg(8) which is a standardize section exactly made of that.

Has sysutils/libcdio been re-installed? I should expect that the symbol is
from that port. (Educated guess.. not a promise.) Might be a dependency
issue.
I don't use maplayer2, so I can't try checking my dependency tree.

It does so on my system in the same manner other modular software does eg
openssl.

Yes. Were this the case, this thread wouldn't have existed.

I'm not sure either. I did 'pkg delete -f libcheck' and then 'portmaster -a'
again - devel/check installed, whereas before it would not. I was happy.

But now 'portmaster -a' fails in multimedia/mplayer2 :( :(

First, the pkg(8) page should explicitly state that there are man pages for
each pkg command. Since this is NOT a typical FreeBSD practice, it is a
POLA violation to not make it clear.

Second, the '-f' option does delete libcheck. Does installing devel/check
cleanly fix up unresolved dependencies? If not, use of -o is the right
answer. I'll admit that I m not sure.

My proposal is that the man page for pkg(8) should state this.

Try reading the pkg-delete(8) man page.

To be fair, the pkg(8) man page does not mention that pkg(8) calls
sub-programmes like pkg-delete(8). The only reference is in the
SEE ALSO section.

- pkg delete -f libcheck

Thanks Herb!

The -f flag is not mentioned in the man page for pkg(8).

How did you know about it?
