Re: FreeBSD 6.1 Installation Prob
Hi, Thanks for all your comments everyone. The FreeBSD version 6.1 was downloaded (ISO image) from the production release page (some mirror site). My PC is a Pentium 4 (915G) , 512MB sdram, 128MB video memory, Maxtor SATA HDD, OS - (Windows (C:), Linux (/,swap), BSD(/,swap,tmp,var,usr). The FS selected was UFS2. Also the packages selected were X packages + all the normal stuff Next comes the screen, where it asks do I want to commit the partitions. I hit yes and it aborts. /Arun On 6/15/06, Eric Anderson [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: John S wrote: Hi, I am trying to install FreeBSD on my machine which already has Windows XP, SUSE Linux 10.1. After partitioning and selecting the installation packages; as soon as i hit the button to start install; it says /dev/X not found and aborted the install. I am trying to install from CD. What is the problem? BTW this is the first time I am trying to install FreeeBSD or for that matter any flavour of BSD. But I am ok with Linux installtions. Can you report the actual /dev/* it warns about? What kind of system is it? Also - you might try a FreeBSD 6.1-RELEASE CD instead of -CURRENT, as -CURRENT is considered 'beta', and any -RELEASE should be stable. Help with the disappearing keys
When I start the system and get to the lines: Sun Feb 12 14:17:52 CET 2006 FreeBSD/i386 (jfs000) (ttyv0) login: I can type my login which is john, but I can also type the letters ÅÄÖ or åäö. But as soon as I log in as john (or root) and see the message of the day and the prompt: $ I can no longer type ÅÄÖ or åäö - all I get is beep for each key press for those keys. Note also that my /etc/rc.conf has the lines font8X8=iso-8x8 font8x14=iso-8x14 font8x16=iso-8x16 keymap=swedish.iso Also I set up the login classes as per the handbook and that appearently went well. I use only USB mouse and keyboard and not AT keyboard or mouse. What is the difference in the keyboard (or console or terminal) before and after the logon? Grateful for any tips! Thanks! /John ___ freebsd-questions@freebsd.org mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-questions To unsubscribe, send any mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

SMP kernel on Compaq DL380 G3.
Has anyone gotten the FreeBSD SMP kernel to boot on a Compaq DL380 G3? There was a known problem in the G2s where you had to set the OS option to Linux in the Compaq BIOS for the SMP kernel to boot correctly. However, this does not appear to work on the G3s. There are two BIOS options which I have adjusted, one is for OS and the other is for Advanced/MPS Table. I have tried every combination between the Linux and Other OS option along with Full Table APIC, Full APIC Memory Mapped, Disabled, and Auto Set Table MPS Table options. I have also tried disabling hyper-threading support for the Xeon processors but still no avail. For now, the system is happily running on the non-SMP kernel. When booting the SMP kernel, the system hangs on APIC_IO: Testing 8254 interrupt delivery. This is on FreeBSD4.7-RELEASE. Thanks, J.
