I have the same problem here. Uname shows 7.0-RELEASE after reboot
and freebsd-update to 7.0-RELEASE-p1.

How to solve this without recompiling kernel?

Hello,
I would like to ask to some of you gurus... if you know

I know that there are such services around where you can install your own
machine virtualized or real, and manage it remotely and you have controlo
also on power on and power off switch.
Anyone of you can suggest me a good provider for this service ?

Re: Kerberos authenticatino and ldap authorization

2007-03-07 Thread RJ45

there are many difficulties and YES there is the documentation
on FreeBSD handbook but it does not helped me so much I Still ahve
difficulties.

I isntalled MIT krb5 also and I Am using kadmin from MIT
to manage krb5 server.

First problem

kadmin:  ktadd -k /etc/krb5.keytab host/host.domain
kadmin: Unsupported key table format version number while adding key to
keytab

I can't undertand this message i touched /etc/krb5.keytab
but via kadmin it is unable to export the krb5 key I added before
with

 addprinc -randkey host/host.domain

i also chmod 777 krb5.keytab nothing to do

at the end I exported it from the kdc and copied it by hand in
/etc/krb5.keytab on my client FreeBSD box, but I do not know
if in this way it will work.

anyway now I have another problem.
I am not able to configure ssh to login via kerberos.

I tryed everything

KerberosAuthentication yes
KerberosOrLocalPasswd yes
KerberosTicketCleanup yes

Then I changed /etc/pam.d/sshd

# auth
authrequiredpam_nologin.so  no_warn
authsufficient  pam_opie.so no_warn no_fake_prompts
authrequisite   pam_opieaccess.so   no_warn allow_local
authsufficient  pam_krb5.so no_warn try_first_pass
#auth   sufficient  pam_ssh.so  no_warn try_first_pass
authrequiredpam_unix.so no_warn try_first_pass

# account
account requiredpam_krb5.so
account requiredpam_login_access.so
account requiredpam_unix.so

# session
#sessionoptionalpam_ssh.so
session requiredpam_permit.so

# password
passwordsufficient  pam_krb5.so no_warn try_first_pass
passwordrequiredpam_unix.so no_warn try_first_pass

and ssh won't authenticate via kerberos:

Mar  7 10:27:24 bastionbox1 sshd[1019]: Invalid user myself from
131.x.y.z
Mar  7 10:27:33 bastionbox1 sshd[1019]: error: PAM: authentication error
for illegal user myself from mylapdop.domain

I must miss something I do not know what...

Actually I do not think this scenario on BSD users is commonly used,
and I Cannot find documentation to help myself, anyway I need this
scenario that was implemented on Linux before.

I do not want to use Linux anyway for this porpouse (bastion SSH
box for public login via krb5/ldap)
At the end anyway the scenario needs to be krb5 for authentication
and LDAP for authorization

For now I am not able to authenticate via krb5

any hints ?

thanks

Rick

The handbook has a chapter on setting up Kerberos, albeit focused on Heimdal.
http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/kerberos5.html

In section 14.8.6 it notes that the kadmin protocol differs between
Kerberos implementations -- you have to use the MIT kadmin to administer
a remote MIT KDC.

Other than the kadmin bits (which are fairly different between the two
but isn't used by end-users anyway), it's pretty much transparent to a
Kerberos-enabled workstation which implementation it's using. I
typically install both (to different paths to avoid file conflicts)
because I like using the newest Heimdal rather than the one in base and
also because the included client applications differ. For example, MIT
has Kerberos rsh whereas the base Heimdal doesn't for some of the
platforms that I use.

If you run into any specific issues when setting it up, please post back
to the list and cc me and I'll give you a hand.

Hello,
I would liek to use FreeBSD as a login ox using krb5 authentication

The KDC kerberos server is another machine as well hte LDAP server,
this freebsd box is a kerberos and ldap client.

Anyone could give me some good hint on hoe to configure hte FreeBSD box in
this way ?

I tryed to search for infoes but could only get partial informations.

for example I would like to installa MIT krb5 implementation from ports
instead of using heidmal default this because the kerberos server

on my network is a MIT server and I can't use kadmin on FreeBSD
to administrer the kerberos server remotely using heidmal implementation.
Anyone has experience of MIT krb5 implementation on FreeBSD ?

as well hoe to enable LDAP authorization for logins on FreeBSD ?

FreeBSD locale and sympa

I installed sympa5 from the FreeBSD ports collection.
I am running FreeSBD 6.1

The problem is that the main sympa web interface does not show me the

menu is filled of spaces, empty spaces.
Also I can't even set a default language, only en_US works.
IS there any problem related to FreeBSD gettext ?

anyone had this problem using sympa 5.2.1 on FreeBSD ?

perl problem

2006-08-03 Thread RJ45

Hello using imapsync to make a transition from imapuw to a cyrus server
make the imapsync perl process to die on FreeBSD 6.1 because it uses more
than 512MB of memory.

this does not happen using imapsync with the same transfer operations on
hte same mailboxes on a Linux fedora box the memory used also is less than
512MB.

recompiling ther kernel of FreeBSD rising the memory to 1GB does not fix
this at all. Seems like the perl process on FreeBSD explodes in memory.

How can I do to fix this issue, any hints ?

I have the tastk to make a project of a server cluster for 20.000
mailboxes.
In which way may I create a cluseter of imap servers using FreeBSD ?
any suggestions or hints ?
The is the problem of the imap mailboxes. How can I syncronize them
in real time on both machines ?
I as thinking to cyrus imapd or dovecot as imap server, but anyway 20.000
mailboxes are really huge...

And with cyrus imapd is impossible to achieve a real fail over system
even using cyrus murder.
Anyone knows which kind of solutions are used by yahoo for example ?
thank you

Rick

daemon program.

2005-07-18 Thread RJ45

Hello,
I did a daemon program which uses sendmail milter.
I would like the program to make a core file when it crashes.
from time to time the daemon dies and I Am not able to find out why.
If I had a core file I could use the debugger.
Is there any way to tell hte program to die with a core dump in FreeBSD ?
thanks

problems with FreeBSD-5.1 any progam goes core

pid 20066 (cc1), uid 0: exited on signal 4 (core dumped)
pid 21680 (cc1), uid 0: exited on signal 4 (core dumped)

hello, suddently on my system happens that any running program
crashes with signal 4 or signal 10 and dumps a core.
This happens also when I Am compiling programs.
I Was compiling sendmail and I had to do it 4 times to have success
because the compilation was always failing all the time with cc1 system
error.
I suspect there is some bad hardware here.
the machine is a Dell power edge 2650 with 2 Xeon CPUs.
I tested all the memory modules and the memory modules are ok.
I used the Dell diagnostic program.
Could it be a CPU problem ?
I don't really know what to do anymore, progams are crashing on the
machine and it is a mail server.
anyone has some hint to help me track the problem ?
thanks

problems with PF

2004-07-29 Thread RJ45

hello,
I configured PF for natting machines on my LAN
using FreeBSD as ADSL gateway.

I just write a simple rule
nat on tun0 from 172.16.16.0/24 to any - (tun0)

but NAT does not work, packets are blocked.

ip forwarding is enabled

using ipfilter works and packets are natted succesfully with a simple rule
the same as before:

map tun0 172.16.16.0/24 - tun0/32

I am using PF on OpenBSD since the first time it was released
so I Am sure it is not a problem of my configuration (After all more
than very simple)
using PF on FreeBSD I noticed simply packets are not NATted.
I have to say I am using it on sparc64 FreeBSD 5.2.1 on ultra 60.

anyone has some hints ?

maybe on i386 works who knows ?

thanks

 No. Edit /usr/local/etc/portaudit.conf and add something like:
 FETCH_BEFORE_ARGS=-vvv

 after that do a ps and kill -9 the fetchaudit (or portaudit) process.

 Watch your daily mail and send the output and the content of

 But I doubt the the output traffic is portaudit fault.

problem with linux emaulation

2004-03-01 Thread RJ45

I try to repost my question in different way.
I had no reply. I Searched on mailing lists but I got no help too.

I have a problem with linux emulation FreeBSD 5.2.1 on XP1000

I installed compaq cc compiler.
I have linux emulation enabled:

Id Refs AddressSize Name
 19 0xfc30 518b70   kernel
 22 0xfe0002b9c000 1e000osf1.ko
 31 0xfe0002bbe000 2a000linux.ko

when I compile something with cc and execute it I got this:

ELF interpreter /usr/lib/ld.so not found
Abort

if I make a symbolic into /compat/linux/lib/ld-2.2.4.so
I got this:

Bad system call (core dumped)

anyone is using compac compiler ?

I remember on FreeBSD 4.x it was working without problems.
but now I isntaleld the port with WANT_EV6 option.
Should I have left it the default ev5 ?

any hints?

thanks

problem with cyrus-imapd and sendmail

2004-02-09 Thread RJ45

Hello,
I have a problem with FreeBSD and cyrus-imapd.
I have never been able to solve this.
The problem is intermittent and it happens from time to time after a
system rebooot.

Jun 17 00:00:11 postino sm-mta[201]: h5GM0A7T000201: [EMAIL PROTECTED],
delay=00:00:00, xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=cyrusv2, pri=31024,
relay=localhostv, dsn=4.4.1, stat=Deferred: Connection refused by
localhost

actually looks like the /var/imap/socket/lmtp is not accessible

but this is weird, in fact my cyrus configuration is perfect and
the file permissions are correct, in particular:

srwxrwxrwx  1 root  cyrus  0 Feb  9 09:47 /var/imap/socket/lmtp

This behaviour is unpredictable and it happens after a reboot to the mail
server.

this is my cyrus configuration into sendmail.cf

Mcyrusv2,   P=[IPC], F=lsDFMnqXzA@/:|m,
S=EnvFromSMTP/HdrFromL, R=EnvToL/HdrToL, E=\r\n,
T=DNS/RFC822/SMTP,
U=cyrus:cyrus,
A=FILE /var/imap/socket/lmtp

(note that I tryed with U=cyrus:cyrus and without it as well)

When this problem happens to me I have to do this modification to solve
it:

Mcyrusv2,   P=/usr/local/cyrus/bin/deliver, F=lsDFMnqXA@/:|m,
S=EnvFromSMTP/HdrFromL, R=EnvToL/HdrToL,
E=\r\n, T=DNS/RFC822/SMTP,
U=cyrus:cyrus,
A=deliver -e -m $h -- $u

I have to call deliver directly even if this is very ugly, but it works.
If after a few hours I Come back to the lmtp cyrus-sendmail configuration
the system comes back working using /var/imap/socket/lmtp

I really don't know how to solve this.
I am sure my configuration is correct.
I use sendmail + cyrus on many boxes, many flavours of unix, Linux, SGI,
Solaris, but I had this problem only with FreeBSD since version 5.0

Anyone had an experience like mine ?
It seems I can't find a solution and this is really overwhelming
since in this way my mail server si quite unstable.
A Reboot can simply screw the whole mail system.

Could the problem be related to /var/imap/socket/lmtp file and
soft updates ??

I ma actually running latest sendmail + latest cyrus version

thank you very much

Rick

sendmail + spamassassin on FreeBSD 5.2

2004-01-28 Thread RJ45

Hello,
I am running latest sendmail + latest spamassassing thru the
spamass-milter mechanism on FreeBSD.
When users send mail it keeps like 10-15 seconds before the mail is sent
and this is annoyign for users.
I inspected the sendmail logs and I saw that spamassassin keeps mroe than
10 second to process a single message for spam.
My machine is a Dell poweredge 2650 with dual xeon 2.4GHz.
I disabled rbl checks in spamassassin.
Anyoien noticed this problem ?
I don;t know how to increase spamassassin log level, anyway I would like
to disable SPAM checks for mails which originate from my LAN, but I can;t
figure out how to do it.
Anyone had tried it before?

FreeBSD-5.1 LMTP problem with sendmail-8.12.10 and cyrus-2.1.16

2004-01-16 Thread RJ45

Hello,
I write here because I Am really clueless.
there is a probem I have since a very long time which I Am not
able to solve.

I have now sendmail-8.12.10 and  cyrus-2.1.16

I have all the time a Connection refused to localhost error
like if the /var/imap/socket/lmtp cannot be
opened by sendmail but the file permissions are correct
that is root:cyrus.
 mailer=cyrusv2, relay=localhost, dsn=4.4.1,
stat=Deferred: Connection refused by localhost

sometimes I have another error:
mailer=cyrusv2, pri=35544, relay=localhost,
dsn=4.3.5, stat=Deferred: No such file or directory

but this has not a specific reason, it depends from time to time.
I Can reboot the system and it works or it just give me the above errors.
Once the system starts up with no error cyrus and sendmail will work
flawlessy, once I Reboot and the error above does occour sendmail+cyrus
won't ever work. THe same things of course happens starting cyrus
and sendmail by hand and killing them and restart them again, sometimes
works sometimes not. This is a problem because my mailserver has to
serve for 500 users.

All the settings are corrects at my eyes
here are the directory permissions for cyrus:

-rw---   1 cyrus  cyrus0 Jan 16 10:49 pop3s-0.lock

the /var/imap/socket/lmtp file is created by cyrus so I cannot understand
why sendmail gives me errors, I Really cannot figure out the permissions
are just fine.

Here is the sendmail configuration:

Mcyrusv2,  P=[IPC], F=lsDFMnqXzA@/:|m,
   S=EnvFromSMTP/HdrFromL, R=EnvToL/HdrToL, E=\r\n,
   T=DNS/RFC822/SMTP,
   A=FILE /var/imap/socket/lmtp

I don't really know anymore what to do with this problem.

Sometimes the problem disappears and sendmail+cyrus works,
sometimes it comes out.

At the end I could solve the problem with this sendmail configuration:

Mcyrusv2,   P=/usr/local/cyrus/bin/deliver, F=lsDFMnqXzA@/:|m,
S=EnvFromSMTP/HdrFromL, R=EnvToL/HdrToL,
E=\r\n, T=DNS/RFC822/SMTP,
U=cyrus:cyrus,
A=deliver -e -m $h -- $u

so I Call directly the deliver program and I have no problem anymore.

I do not know why when I use lmtp I run always in the Connection
to localhost refused and sometimes I run into No such file or directory
but this happens randomly.

I am running sendmail+cyrus on FreeBSD-5.1

could it be a problem due to FreeBSD softupdates ?
I have soft updates enabled on the /var/imap and /var/spool/imap
partition.
THe partition is on a RAID10 storage system.

Could someone pelase give me at least some hints which could help me
to solve the problem?
I had the same problem also on a standard no-RAID disk always
FreeBSD.

I also tryed

O DefaultUser=cyrus:cyrus

for sendmail but also this did not help me.
So I have no clue anymore.

thanks

strange problem with ntop

2003-11-05 Thread RJ45

Hello,
I have a dual CPU 1GHz PIII running 5.1 release.
I Run ntop on that machine.
The strange thing is that when I run ntop it hangs after a few minutes.
it uses lots of memory but I tuned the kernel accordingly setting that a
process can use up to 1GB allocation space (DSIZ etc..)
The problems looks like thread related, some thread hangs and the web page
of ntop freezes even if the ntop proces does not die.
This problem does not occour if I continuously click on the ntop web page
links to look the traffic. if I stop going through the ntop page for a
while the ntop threads start freezing.
I did not notice this problem on Linux.
NTOP is a unstable application and it is normal that it will crash after a
short time but i nthis case it does not crash but freezes a few minutes
after ntop is started. Do I have to recompile the kernel with some special
option? anyone using NTOP on FreeBSD had this problem?
thank you

problem with perl versions

2003-10-19 Thread RJ45

I have a problem with perl versions
I need to use perl 5.8.0 but everytime I install from ports a application

avalaible and I have to make reinstall perl 5.8.0 every time.
Is there a way to set a system variable for perl5.8.0 as default?

I also tryed with this in /etc/make.conf

PERL_VER=5.8.0
PERL_VERSION=5.8.0

but it is useless. if I then install an application from ports which uses
perl5.6 the default perl becomes perl 5.6 regardless of make.conf

exe order in /usr/local/etc/rc.d

2003-10-16 Thread RJ45

I have never understood in which order are execurted the scripts which are
in /usr/local/etc/rc.d

most port applications like mysqld, cyrus-imapd, spamd etc. put their
startup scripts into /usr/local/etc/rc.d but they are not ordered by a
number attached before the script name (like the Unix SysV style)

anyone has some hint about this ?
How can I Set the startup order into /usr/local/etc/rc.d

IPsec VPN between FreeBSD and WinXP

2002-12-03 Thread RJ45

Hello.
I could set up succesfully a IPSec transport mode VPN between WinXP and
FreeBSD 4.7
The problem is that it works only if I Start the first connection from
WinXP to FreeBSD box, and the vice versa does not work.
If The very first IPSec connection starts from FreeBSD I have this kind of
errors:
Dec  3 12:32:41 hal9000 /kernel: IPv4 ESP input: no key association found
for spi 69118078

Instead once I ping from WinXP then I Can also ping from FreeBSD to WinXP
succesfully.
It looks like IPsec transport cannot be initialized if FreeBSD starts a
connection with its peer IPsec WinXP host.
any hints about this??
I used this document as reference for setting up IPsec VPN:
http://www.wiretapped.net/~fyre/ipsec/
