 Sdav

 You have several options:

 1) If the switch has some intelligence, you can monitor it to measure
bandwidth consumption. There are two ways to do this:
 a) if the switch implements SNMP, you can use mrtg (simple) or
cacti (not so simple) to graph bandwidth on the switch by port and in
 total
 b) if the switch can mirror all of the data going across the
switch to a port on the switch, you can use ntop to graph traffic. It
only shows the top three bandwidth consumers at any given time, but i)
it does have very nice graphing, and if the machine you are concerned
about is consuming more than its fair share it will show, and ii) you
can use standard bpf filters to capture utilization for just that box.

 2) if you have a spare machine, you can put two NICs in it, and use it
as a bridge between the switch and the router. This is a bit more
complicated, but it allows you to implement either option 1a or 1b
 above.

Weird FS behavior tru FTP on CD9660

2008-10-08 Thread Sdävtaker
Hey,
I found a weird situation today,
I mounted a DVD with the mount_cd9660 and accessed it through
filezilla. I got 2 times every file in the list, go back to the
original Pc and checked with ls and they appear only once. :-/
Im using last version Filezilla in MSW, and ftpd in FBSD7.0r.
I think it can be reading both TOCs in the DVD, but it is weird since
it doesnt happen when doing ls.
Can someone try reproduce it in another setup?

Using US keyboard layout i found the that hitting shift+2 got me a @,
using spanish layout hit altgr+2 got me a @ using latin american hit
altgr+q got me a @...
So... I was thinking why i can do it and this 5-6 users cant? Then... I
sit right to them and watched... They hit alt+64 from numpad like an old
DOS user -.- and they thinking windows is better because got @ in
alt+64, why we using this weird OS?. My first tough was: come on, its
in the key with the big @ symbol, hit the damn key!!!, later was, I
will kill these stupid monkey I told them like 1000 times, hit the right
key combo!!!. Now im tired enough, so...
Someone know a why to make alt+64 print a @ in the open program? They
just use KDE, KATE, KMail and Firefox -.-

Is there any way to make it work?

Re: RLT8139d drivers?

2008-01-21 Thread Sdävtaker
It doesnt appear in pciconf (output is pasted below). I removed it and
tryed make it work in a winxp machine and it was successfully working,
so is not hardware problem (at least not in the nic).
Any idea why is not working?, the card chip says 8139d, my kernel is
release generic.
Is it the none0?
thanks for reply me :-)

The RTL8139D is a 10/100Mbit chip that is supported by the rl(4) driver and
can be found on the majority of really cheap NICs these days,
The RTL8169/8169S is a 10/100/1000Mbit chip that is supported by the re(4)
 driver
and is quite common on cheap gigabit-NICs.
The RTL8139C+ (which is not the same as the RTL8139C or RTL8139D) is a
10/100M chip which is also supported by the re(4) driver.

If FreeBSD cannot detect your NIC then you will have to send more
information to help people figure out what exact hardware you have
and what would be needed to make it work.

The output of 'pciconf -lv' should be a good start. (Include the full
output, not just the lines you think are important.)

mysql port problem

2007-12-27 Thread Sdävtaker

Hello,
I'd installed the mysql51-server port (actual snapshot, FBSD6.2r)
After install I ran the create DBs scripts and tried to run a mysql
client locally.

Tried to run the mysqld manually and got a Socket error.
/temp/mysql.sock is not
I found the log file didnt log anything, so i started looking at the
/var/db/mysql files...
All files in /var/db/mysql were in wheel group and root owner, so I did
chown -R mysql mysql

chgrp -R mysql mysql
After that it started working, im using it and can do all my work, but...
Is it safe to set all those files to mysql user and mysql group?
Why the port create those files with root and wheel if they cant be
accessed. I found lots of people trying to find out why mysql says sock
error after installation.
I tried install mysql50-server and it has the same behavior and changing
owner and group it is solved too.

Can someone enlight me?
Im running it from rc.conf with mysql_enable=YES
Thanks!
Sdav

VMware with Graphic hardware support

2007-12-11 Thread Sdävtaker
Hello, I had seen that VMwares latest version uses hardware
acceleration for graphics, and it is a pretty nice way to avoid reboot
pc just to use some win32/linux software for a couple of
minutes/hours...
I got a Nvidia card, do u think the port of VMware will be able to use
these feature and run some graphical applications with 3d
acceleration?
Thanks for any info.

looking for syscalls especifications

2007-11-28 Thread Sdävtaker
Hello.
I was wondering if there is any place where i can get the
specifications used to write the syscalls.
I was reading the syscalls.master and it only says the number and name
of the syscall, and only few are documented at man.
Any idea who could have that kind of documentation?
As example, what determines the permitions of a just created file?
(From experiments i got they 000) same with the otehr almost 5000
syscalls :-/

problems using ls with for_in (SH)

2007-11-08 Thread Sdävtaker

Im trying to get a file with all the md5 hashes of one directory.
My initial script was this:
#!/bin/sh
for file in $(ls)
do
   echo $file
   md5 $file
done

The problem is with the file names who contains whitespaces becouse
the for_in passed each word as one iteration and not the full filename,
I'd tried using -B in ls, but doesnt help.

Any idea what can i do?
Thanks!

Problem making slides in 6.2 installation

2007-10-09 Thread Sdävtaker
Hello.
I got a Pc with 80GBs HD in an AMD K62.
I installed a windows in the first 2 partitions, both primaries.
First 1 got system 10GB in a NTFS FS.
Second 1 got Share in a FAT32 FS (Its for pass files from FBSD to Win32...)
After that I started the machine with the FREEBSD 6.2 release CD.
I choosed the standard install - All - and when FDISK openned i
added another Slide.
Then until now
/dev/ad2s1 : NTFS 10GB
/dev/ad2s2 : FAT32 20GB
/dev/ad2s3* : UFS 48GB
After that labeled Auto the ad2s3 and changed /home for his own 20GB partition.
After that i said install the bootmanager.
and after that the installation crashed saying ad2s3b is not in /dev.
I rebooted and i can use the bootmanager now, i run windows ok. i see
the 3 partitions from windows, but after reboot in freebsd
installation i see ad2 empty, freebsd FDISK doesnt see the 3
partitions, but windows does...
what can i do?
did it happened to someone else?
Thanks for any help you can give me.

Re: Convince me, please!

2007-08-08 Thread Sdävtaker

There is a project based on FreeBSD that you can give a try.
Its real easy to install, got a lot of applications ported with an easy
to use interface.
You can install it and have Internet Explorer and a lot of windows
applications working in less than a couple of minutes, and there is a
virtual machine version to try it before install.

The website is http://www.pcbsd.org and starts saying :
PC-BSD has been designed with the 'casual' computer user in mind.
Installing the system is simply a matter of a few clicks and a few
minutes for the installation process to finish. Hardware such as video,
sound, network and other devices will be auto-detected and available at
the first system startup. Home users will immediately feel comfortable
with PC-BSD's desktop interface, with KDE 3.5 running under the hood.
Software installation has also been designed to be as painless as
possible, simply double-click and software will be installed.

I hope it helps you :-)

For instance, if I download and install FreeBSD, will I instantly have a

I understand you guys have been around for a while, but you don't seem

How to foward subdomains?

2007-08-01 Thread Sdävtaker
Hello
Sorry in advance for my english,it is not my main language.
I got a tiny network with 2 computers and only 1 external ip.
I configured my router to foward the dns port to machine1, and
registered it in nic as ns1.mydomain.com, i had successfully moved my
registered domains to that dns and could run all my services in that
machine, ie i can http://www.mydomain.com from outside.
After that i had setup a second machine in the network and i want to
make this one a subdomain of the first one ie second.mydomain.com,
this second machine got no external ip.
How can i set my first machine to foward all the traffic directed to
that domain?
Thanks for any help u can give me.
