Confused about disk gemoetry
So I got a replacment 200GB HD sent to me. Put it into the system and fire up the FDISK util in /stand/sysinstall. It warns me that I should verify the drive information. It presents me with 24321/255/63 and warns that it should match what the firmware sees. Well, when FreeBSD 4.8 fires up, it reports the drive as 387621/16/63. When I attempt to use those numbers it tells me they are wrong and won't let me do it. What gives? Who's right? IPSec/VPN - Issues
I am trying to setup an IPSec connection using http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/ipsec.html. When I get to the bit about gifconfig gif0 a.b.c.d w.x.y.z (though I'm using my real values) I get the following error: weedwhacker# gifconfig gif0 a.b.c.d w.x.y.z gifconfig: interface gif0 does not exist FreeBSD 4.8-Release. Relavant Items in my kernel config: pseudo-device gif # IPv6 and IPv4 tunneling #Turn on VPN options IPSEC options IPSEC_ESP Still no dice. Also, does Racoon support Aggressive mode? As well as PFS? Finally, the firewall administrator does not want to give me the IP address of his internal interface (I'm mapping to a 10.*.*.* network). Is this going to be a problem? FBSD 4.8, SecurID VPN to FW-1
Howdy all Is it possible to setup a VPN to a FW-1 firewall that requires SecurID authentication? If so, where might I find documenation on it? I've read a bit about being able to use RADIUS, but that is out of the question. I've also read the VPN using FreeBSD doc over at SANS but it really does not talk about the authentication portion of it that Im going to have to jump through. Cannot Fork: /etc/rc.devfs
Howdy. I'm getting pretty frustrated with FBSD 5.0. Somehow I've managed to goof up the system. It started after I built a custom kernel. After rebooting into the new kernel I start getting all sorts of cannot fork errors. One specific one is /etc/rc.devfs cannot fork: resource temporarily unavailable. The only thing I did was comment out the 486 and 586 cpu sections as well as the floppy drive. I thought at first it was because of the addition of the IPFIREWALL options. Because when the new kernel boots I cannot login (cannot fork: resource temporarily unavailable). I recopied the GENERIC kernel to my custom kernel made NO changes to the GENERIC kernel, built it, installed it and rebooted. Still no login (cannot fork: resource temporarily unavailable). So I reinstalled. Then made a new kernel. Still no login (cannot fork: resource temporarily unavailable). So I checked /etc/rc.devfs. I saw nothing worth noting in that file. 98% of it is commented out. I'm seriously ready to give this thing the fork alright. But I do not want to damage my nice silverware. Why is this thing not forking? I do not even know where to continue my troubleshooting now. Cant fork for getty! FBSD 5.0
Howdy all. Got that pesky domain name problem worked out. First entry in my resolv.conf file was no longer vaild for my ISP. Doe! Anyway, I've enabled options IPFIREWALL and IPFIREWALL_DEFAULT_TO_ACCEPT. When I reboot I get: init: can't for for getty on port /dev/ttyv4: Resource temporarily unavailable. I cannot log in during this time either. Comment out the firewall options, rebuild and blamo problem goes away. What gives? Cant resolve - FBSD 5.0
Howdy all. Just installed FBSD 5.0 on a system with a 3Com card (xl0). I'm having trouble with apps such as telnet, ftp, etc resolving domain names. All the entries in /etc/resolv.conf are okay. I can nslookup names until the cows come home. What did I miss? Another Sendmail question
One more sendmail question. After installing the ports version and telnetting to my local host on port 25 I get the following greeting: 220 myhost.com ESMTP Sendmail 8.12.8/8.11.1; Wed, 5 Mar 2003 21:03:12 -0500 (EST) Should 8.11.1 be showing up? Sendmail update from ports
On a FBSD 4.2-RELEASE system - I build Sendmail 8.12.8 from the ports collection. It builds and installs just fine. I follow the directions in pkg-message. I set sendmail_enable=no in rc.conf. And because my system is 4.6 I put sendmail_flags=-L sm-msp-queue -Ac -q1m' Set the sendmail.sh in /usr/local/etc/rc.d and reboot. I see sendmail start as a local package. I see sendmail running as a process. I cannot, however telnet to localhost 25. Connection refused. The one thing that throws me off in pkg-message is the statement about adding stuff to sendmail.mc. I do not have a sendmail.mc file on my sysytem. Where would that live? What am I missing here? Tommy Forrest - KE4PYM - [EMAIL PROTECTED] My two cents: Even my cleaning lady won't do Windows. Samba/USB Printer/Epson Photo Stylus 820
I'm interested in setting up FreeBSD 4.x/Samba to spool/act as print server for a Epson Stylus Photo 820 for my other machines on the network. I found the FreeBSD handbook really good at explaining how to do this with old-school connections (parallel/serial). But I'm interested in doing this using USB. Are there any HOW-TO's out there that explain how to do this?? Tommy Forrest - KE4PYM - [EMAIL PROTECTED] My two cents: OS/2: Bill Gates' worst nightmare!
