courier-authlib-mysql-0.63.0_1 - the file is
/usr/local/etc/authlib/authmysqlrc

mysql and courier imap - fam is compiled, even though initially was ruled

Those aren't set up as OPTIONS, so they won't get stored in

 The upgrade sequence is:

 # portsnap fetch update
 # portmanager -u

 Am I doing something wrong?

See alternative configuration in the portmanager manual.

I guess that is what I need, thank you

however, I don't remember to have had this problem until now (i.e.
options not being kept @ update); or they had the same behavior ?

thank you for your time,

 Hi Petre,
I assume you say it doesnt work because your kernel doesn't have
 gmirror built into it.

have you tried using the install disk - fixit - load the geom_mirror
module by hand and then mounting the devices?

or take the disks to another box which has geom_mirror built into and
 modify that way.
 Beto
it happened as follows - fresh install (following the onlamp.com

aside for 3 weeks (while forgetting root password - stupid, yes), try

There isn't currently a direct routing equivalent. I cheat and use
IPF like so (the IPs are faked):

 # source-IP routed traffic
 # Note that the on 'interface' has to be the one with my default
route pass out quick on hme0 to tun6 from 10.0.0.3/24
to !192.168.0.0/16 keep state block in on tun6 from any to
 10.0.0.3/24 head 200 ... group 200 rules follow ...

You can do the same with IPFW and PF.
shamelesshoping for a full solution :)/shameless

can it be done only with ipfw ? if yes, how ?

thanks a lot,

petre

dual boot with freebsd boot loader

2005-08-02 Thread Petre Bandac
hello

I have the following configuration

ad0s1 - win xp with ntfs
ad0s2 - freebsd

they were installed in the above order, so now I can use only freebsd

is there a way to configure freebsd's boot loader to be able to boot
from the win partition (I googled around and found boot0cfg (8), but
didn't have the time to play with it)

what I want to know is if (making a similarity with linux's lilo) I can
make the boot loader to have the options 1) boot win, 2) boot freebsd

I do not want to install grub or other boot loader unless the default
freebsd boot manager cannot be used in the configuration described above

thanks,

Not sure if this is exactly what you're looking for, but look into
uname command. It has several options, man uname for more information.

It used to be included by default, but now you have to ask for it. You

Well... *ahem*... I put the above script into /etc/ipfw.rules and did

kldload ipfw.ko sh /etc/ipfw.rules. I lost connectivity to the
server. Did the above script only open those ports to localhost or
something? I can go in tonight and fix it from the local computer,
but
I'd like to know what to do when I get there. I need to have
connectivity to said ports from the internet... apparently I don't
:-P.

No, it means that you can not have both, you must choose either one.
If p5-Mysql-modules-1.2219 is not a dependency, simply uninstall it
with pkg_delete. And go back to install whatever you were installing.
If both are required due to dependencies, you have a problem.

Please write what you are trying to install if p5-DBD-mysql-2.9004_1
is needed by some other program.

To see dependecies of p5-Mysql-modules, try this:

   pkg_info p5-Mysql-modules-1.2219

I get this error when portupgrading amavisd-new

xxl# pkg_info p5-Mysql-modules-1.2219

Required by:

and also there is another interesting thing:

xxl# use.perl --help
Usage:
  /usr/local/bin/use.perl port - /usr/bin/perl is the perl5 port
/usr/local/bin/use.perl system - /usr/bin/perl is the system perl

perl has the same path for the system and port version

is it the right method ?

 No.

You don't need to completely delete and redownload the whole ports
tree. And running 'portsdb -U' does exactly the same thing as running
'make index' -- no need to do it twice. And 'portsdb -u' will crash
in exactly the same way as you've seen before.

 Just do this:

 # cvsup -g -L 2 ports-supfile
 # make index
 # setenv PORTS_DBDRIVER bdb1_hash
 # portsdb -u

The 'portsdb -u' command is where the crash usually occurs. Once
you've got past that stage, you're home and dry. Run
 portupgrade/portversion/pkgdb as usual.

The bug is in the base system. A fix has been committed to 6-CURRENT:
it should percolate down to 4-STABLE and 5-STABLE in the next few
 days.

   Cheers,

   Matthew

Is there any reason you *think* that those ports *aren't* outdated?
There was a spate of port revision changes recently; to deal with the
gettext changes, if my notoriously shaky memory is correct.

Try portversion -v to see what version the database thinks the ports

sound question

hello

I have a problem I somehow fixed once, but I can't remember how :-)

sim-icq gives me the following message

play: /dev/dsp: Device busy

(it uses the play command for the sound plugin)

it means that somehow the sound channel is used by other program (I have xmms
running, and also enlightenment has the sounds option on), but only the play
command doesn't run

can I make play use other device ? which one ?

TIA,

 I have a similar problem with mpg123. Calling mpg123

 #!/bin/sh

Of course, a solution would be better than a work-arond :)

 Hello,

I'm running 4.8-STABLE. I've got a question about NAT and gateway.
Today, I'm running a typical NAT configuration like this...

 if0 = public_ip
 if1 = private_lan

Everything is working fine, internal clients use if1 and their gateway
and their addresses are translated and sent out on if0.

My question is: can I alias if1 with a public IP and point other
clients (also with public IP) if1 as their gateway? In this case, I
would want if1 to route to if0 and have their public IPs remain intact.

I'm asking this as a questions because I've just tried it and packets
are not routing from if1 to if0.

 Many thanks for your help.

 Petre Bandac [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:
I have to use a freebsd machine as a gateway router; I did manage to make
natd work, but now I have also a subnet routed to the machine

That sounds fine. How you handle it will depend on whether you want
outside hosts to be able to initiate connections into that subnet or
not. If not, it's easy: you just need '-unregistered_only'.

If you do want full access into those machines, I don't see why
just setting up a route on the gateway machine shouldn't be enough to
just do it on a machine already configured for IP forwarding. Of
course, you'll need to let the packets through the firewall.

all I did was
ipfw add pass all from any to $subnet
ipfw add pass all from $subnet to any

and it works

my problem was that I googled around and didn't find the answer to my problem,
so I had to figure it out myself

if you are familiar with freebsd routers/gateways, I would welcome any hints/
advices/howtoes/links/etc

what I want is to get the LAN behind rl1 to the internet (connected via rl0)
with routable (i.e. public) IP addresses

I'm looking for the ipfw command similar to iptables' -A FORWARD -d
  $subnet/ $mask -j ACCEPT

Sorry, I don't use iptables, so that doesn't mean anything to me.

I am new to freebsd (and slowly moving to the intermediate level), but I have
a few years of linux experience behind, that's why I tried a comparison
between the 2

I can guess that it's going to just let in all packets destined for
subnet/mask, but surely you want to do *some* firewalling...

yes, I surely do

also, what's the difference between ipfw add pass and ipfw add forward ?

The former accepts a packet for processing by the IP stack, while the
latter bypasses the forwarding portions of the stack.

got it

thanks,

petre

  My platform is a very recent FreeBSD-stable, Opera 7.20 B7, Cups 1.1.19.

On my -current with Opera 7.20 B7, I can't print that page: Opera starts
chewing CPU while the Opera window is not updated anymore (ie. switching

stale dependency ?!

2003-03-03 Thread Petre Bandac

kgb# portversion
Stale dependency: simicq-0.8.1 -- fam-2.6.9_2 -- manually run 'pkgdb -F' to
fix, or specify -O to force.

and when I run pkgdb -Fvu I am asked whether to:

Stale dependency: simicq-0.8.1 - fam-2.6.9_2 (devel/fam):
New dependency? (? to help): ?
[Enter] to skip, [Ctrl]+[D] to delete, [.][Enter] to abort, [Tab] to
complete
New dependency? (? to help):

delete here means it deletes the dependency or the whole port ?

what's the method to correct the situation, assuming that in the future I
shall want to portupgrade ?

thanks,

petre

ipfw firewall questions

2003-02-02 Thread Petre Bandac
hello

I'm about to compose my first ipfw firewall - and, since I have worked quite
a lot with iptables, I'm interesed in a few minor similarities:

1 - the firewall is called by rc.conf ? or ca I call it at boot time via
whatever *.sh placed in the right place

2 - the firewall can be a executable bash script (i.e. like a regular linux
firewall, with variables like myIP=192.168.0.0) ?

I guess the rest is covered in the docs I have carefully RTFM :-)

thanks,

petre

ipf ipfw are something like iptables ipchains ? both tools do the same job
?

On Sunday 02 February 2003 20:26 Anno Domini, JoeB wrote using one of his
keyboards:
There are 3 classes of rules in IPFW, each class has separate packet
interrogation abilities. Each proceeding class has greater packet
interrogation abilities than the previous one. These are stateless,
simple stateful, and advanced stateful. The advanced stateful rule
class is the only class having technically advanced interrogation
abilities capable of defending against the flood of different attack
methods currently employed by perpetrators. Stateless and Simple
Stateful IPFW firewall rules are inadequate to protect the users
system in today's internet environment and leaves the user
unknowingly believing they are protected when in reality they are
 not.

The advanced stateful rule option keep-state works as documented
only when used in a rule set that does not use the divert rule.
Simply stated the IPFW advanced stateful rule option keep-state does
not function correctly when used in a IPFW firewall that also is
using the IPFW built in NATD function. For the most complete
keep-state protection the other FIREWALL solution (IPFILTER) that
comes with FBSD should be used. Just checkout the IPFW list archives
and you will see this subject discussed in detail with out any
 solution forthcoming.

where and what should I modify ?

on a bsd machine - though I've recompiled hundreds of linux kernels) - I get
