Do `kldstat -v` to get informations on modules built into kernel and modules loaded seperately. You can mark code pieces you want to have in kernel by writing a KERNCONF file. Details can be taken from handbook[1]. You may find other step-by-step instructions in forum[2] and on several blogs. I saw some posts of people sharing their minimal kernel configuration file. It's interesting for people using laptops and wanting to save as much power as possible, too. Bluetooth DUN tun0 IP setting
Freebsd 8.0-RELEASE-p2. Fujitsu Lifebook T1010. T-Mobile myTouch 3G slide. Android 2.1. PDA Net tether app. I get to where I can run rfcomm -a ... and PDA Net on phone responds that it is running, shows byte count, but a few seconds my console displays error. tun0: Error: ipcp_InterfaceUp: unable to set ip address. The tun0 appears in ifconfig /all but with no tcp/ip settings. In Windows 7 the tunnel interface gets 192.168.9.2, work gateway and dhcp at 9.1. Dell Wireless 350 Bluetooth Internal Card
I am using a Dell Latitude D520 with the GENERIC kernel on FreeBSD 7.0.I am not able to fully utilize all of the devices available on this model. However, the most concerning issue is the Dell Wireless 350 Bluetooth Internal Card. I am not able to find the device or the device name on the boot log or on any forums on the web. Background information: This internel device is a combination Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and is fully customizable for one interface or the other. It’s built into each Dell Latitude D520 by default without any installation required. I suspect if I add the device name to a custom kernel and rebuild, it will recognize it. I'm having trouble getting a BlueTooth headset paired to FreeBSD. I
believe that I've followed the handbook. My headset is a BlueAnt Z9,
and when I attempt to pair, I do not get any response out of hsecd.
Some info about my machine

Here is the process I used:
1. This Friday I upgraded my kernel to 6.3 Release.
2. Today I finished rebuilding all my ports.
3. kldload ng_ubt whose output was
kldload: Unsupported file type
I'm not so worried about this error as this report says its a minor
issue for amd64

9. I don't believe I'm going to do any point-to-multipoint scenarios
so I skipped the next few example in the Handbook.
10. I was able to successfully ping the device

11. Now to pairing. Since I'm pairing a headset with a fixed pin and
I'm initiating pairing from the FreeBSD machine (I can't initiate
from the headset), the handlbook does not cover this scenario at
all. So I searched around and found this article

Which says to initiate pair with a pair of setup commands

12. I set up the hsecd.conf file with the entry

That pin code if from my headset manual.
13 and lastly the command

hcsecd[1187]: Restored link key for the entry, remote bdaddr

and the command doesn't exit.
14. Which isn't so good, so I further edited out all of hcsedc.conf
and only left in the entry for the headset I want to pair. And I got
this.
TOGOTU# hcsecd -d
No output at all. And the command never exits. And the handbook
says that I should get some output indicating pairing.
Can anyone offer any assistance in pairing a BlueTooth headset? What
step am I missing? My end goal is I want to use Skype on FreeBSD with
it.

USB bluetooth problem...
I'm trying to get a no-name usb bluetooth dongle working without luck so far. fbsd 7 and nokia via bluetooth
Hi everybody :I want to conect my phone via bluetooth.I follow the handbook
guide but something goes wrong :(
First I type kldload ng_ubt.Then i wanted to copy the example file from
/usr/share/examples/netgraph/bluetooth/rc.bluetooth to /etc/rc.bluetooth,
but the file is missing.
I have continued with the guide and type hccontrol -n ubt0hci inquiry.I

Then I wanted to pair the devices and edin the conf file with this:

and start the deamon.Then I choosed from my phone to search for new devices,
and it found the pc.But when i wanted to pair - paired failed
How to fix this and how to brouse my phone?

For PAN connectivity (which is the default Bluetooth way of Internet connectivity), FreeBSD currently doesn't ship with a daemon that implements the server-side of it. Bluetooth problems
I'm unable to use a bluetooth connection between my fbsd 6.2 laptop and my Nokia cell . As you can see below I can l2ping the cell but not other connection are possible. Hi all,
I can't seem to find support for bluetooth on the Broadcom Corp BCM2045B
chipset.
Do the other broadcom 20xxx series support this chipset? Is the one that comes
as part of the iwi on Thinkpad z60m laptop ( iwi0: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless
2915ABG )
if sysctl dev.acpi_ibm.0.events=1 , Fn F5 doesnt trigger anything... if
disabling acpi_ibm.0.events ( = 0), Fn-F5 seems to pick it up ... light
comes up in panel...but not sure if it GETS enabled...:

Did you load the broadcom bluetooth firmware, and the bluetooth modules?
hmm no.. i'll sit down and test it all again now that my box is stable again on
rELENG_6_1... I wanted to make sure it *should* work...

Bluetooth not working
Hello Folks, Recently I bought a new bluetooth dongle, an ISSC Bluetooth Stack implementation. It works (apparently seems so) with Wind0ze. I have no idea if this will help you or not; however, you could try enclosing the directory or file name in quotes. Hi There, I am have a problem with a linksys usbbt100 bluetooth dongle. FreeBSD just needs to dial *99# then so it uses gprs. I checked the handbook but I really couldn't get much out of that as for how you'd use a bluetooth enabled cellphone as a modem. If anyone could either point me to some type of tutorial to do this; or tell me how, i'd appreciate it. - Andre. At the bottom of the page, it covers Dial Up Networking and using a phone for this. Nothing at all. Since everything works, I'm not too worried about it. However, you could try removing the startup script from running automatically, and see whether you still get those messages. And then whether they still happen if you run the script by hand after the system is up. TIMEOUT (15) ng_l2cap_l2ca_discon_req: ubt0l2cap - unexpected L2CA_Disconnect request message. rfcomm_pppd and nat - trying to share internet with palm via bluetooth
Hi, ppp newbie here. I'm trying to share my freebsd machine's internet connection with my palm via bluetooth. The freebsd machine is connected via wired ethernet to a linksys wireless access point, that is connected to my cable modem on the wan side. The linksys AP is my gateway. Bluetooth seems to be working fine. I can connect and ping the freebsd machine from my palm, but I can't get to the internet. That is, I can't ping my ISP's DNS. I thought 'nat enable yes' or 'set nat enable' would do it, but no luck. I run the following on the freebsd machine: /etc/rc.bluetooth start ubt0 sdpd rfcomm_pppd -s -C 1 -l rfcomm-server and in /etc/ppp/ppp.conf I have this: rfcomm-server: set device /dev/cuaa1 set cd off set dial set speed 115200 set timeout 0 nat enable yes set ifaddr 192.168.0.1/0 192.168.0.2/0 enable dns add default HISADDR open disable pap deny pap disable chap deny chap if I do this in ppp.conf instead: set ifaddr 10.10.0.2 10.10.0.201 255.255.255.0 where 10.10.0.2 is the wireless router(gateway), then the palm gets an ip of 10.10.0.201 just fine, and it can ping the freebsd machine (10.10.0.154) and the wireless router (10.10.0.2), but STILL can't get to the internet. Also tried setting net.inet.ip.forwarding=1. No change. You have an out of date ports tree: openobex has been in ports for some 4 months now: http://www.freebsd.org/ports/comms.html#openobex-1.0.1 You're also running a deprecated version of FreeBSD -- there were some serious bugs in version 5.2 which necessitated the release of 5.2.1 shortly afterwards. I advise you to install cvsup -- # pkg_add -r cvsup-without-gui and then use that to get an up to date copy of the ports tree. While you're at it, also install portupgrade(1) as that will make maintaining your installed ports into a doddle. FYI - Belkin Bluetooth USB Adapter recognized in FreeBSD 5.2.1 Release
The Belkin Bluetooth USB Adapter, model F8T001 (100 meter range), is not in the hardware notes, I thought I'd mention it here: I just installed FreeBSD 5.2.1 on a Dell Inspiron 8100. The Belkin Bluetooth USB Adapter mentioned above was recognized as ubt0. Also, 'hccontrol -n ubt0hci inquiry' returns its hardware information, including its BD_ADDR. I'm new to this bluetooth stuff, and I still have to customize the OS, so I haven't gotten any further in testing. We will shortly be starting some development with bluetooth and I'm looking to setting up a workstation dedicated for that. This workstation will also be used for palm os development since that is part of the same project so the workstation needs to be somewhat stable for that. Is the bluetooth support in FreeBSD 5.x well developed? The main protocols we need are RFCOMM and HID support. I've heard some problems with FreeBSD 5.2 as far as stability, but are they mostly fixed in FreeBSD 5.2.1 or should I just go with Debian Linux for all of this. FWIW I have successfully connected to the internet via GPRS over bluetooth with a Nokia 7650 and the built-in USB adapter in the IBM T40p. It seems to run stable (well except for the buggy-in-general phone). We will shortly be starting some development with bluetooth and I'm looking to setting up a workstation dedicated for that. This workstation will also be used for palm os development since that is part of the same project so the workstation needs to be somewhat stable for that. Is the bluetooth support in FreeBSD 5.x well developed? The main protocols we need are RFCOMM and HID support. I've heard some problems with FreeBSD 5.2 as far as stability, but are they mostly fixed in FreeBSD 5.2.1 or should I just go with Debian Linux for all of this. -- I sense much NT in you. need suggestions on making a wireless network using bluetooth.
Hello. I'll make a small wireless network in my office in the coming month. Now I'm considering bluetooth instead of 802.11. In the office I have a freebsd server, my own notebook runs freebsd. Other computers run MAC OS and Windows. * the office is not very big, just as big as the bluetooth signal can reach. There are confidential information in the office, I don't want anyone to get my data by just stopping a car in front of the office and listen network traffice with a notebook. * I don't see any network traffic problem. Usually we just transfer emails, text documents and pictures. * In China, the 802.11 device market is not clear yet, I don't know what standard to follow (you surely know about the new Chinese spec on 802.11 network). * We already have some bluetooth devices. * Most of us use notebook computers. Notebook 802.11 cards are more expensive than bluetooth cards. * Some people in the office are going to buy GPRS enabled cell phone. If they buy bluetooth enabled GPRS phones, they can go surf the Internet outside the office through GPRS cell phone. This is cheaper than having both 802.11 card and GPRS card. So I decide I'd better use bluetooth. Several questions: * Is it possible to make a wireless network by using bluetooth devices? Can I have a bluetooth installed on the FreeBSD server, let it act as a switch/hub? Bluetooth tools for BSD
Hello All, I was wondering if anyone had been trying out various tools such as bluesniff and redfang, for instance. I've run into issues getting them to compile and work on 5.1. Has anyone been able to accomplish this and if not, can anyone recommend other tools for BT Sniffing. I'd hate to have to install Linux just to use a few tools. I'm not sure if any of them do what you're looking for but it might be a starting point. Good luck! Bluetooth is supported via the netgraph framework, though only in 5.1 and 5-CURRENT. The USB adapters supported seem quite varied, from what I've read, although 5.1's hardware notes only mentions a few : http://www.freebsd.org/releases/5.1R/hardware-i386.html#BLUETOOTH According to a message ( http://unix.derkeiler.com/Mailing-Lists/FreeBSD/net/2003-08/0130.html ) from Maksim Yevmenkin, the guy who wrote the bluetooth stack, a lot more adapters will work, based on their Linux support, see the link in the message. Bluetooth (BlueZ) or WLAN in FreeBSD
Lo ppl, i'd like to link a WinME PC to my FreeBSD via Bluetooth or WLAN, depending on what works and / or is cheaper. The (air-line) distance is around 10 meters through 2 walls. What would you recommend for this scenario (e.g., what drivers will work fine with FreeBSD)? - 2 WLAN devices - Internal PCI card - external USB box Or - 2 bluetooth USB dongles While i'm sure i will find a way to make windows use ip over bluetooth, i wonder if FreeBSD in the latest release will make it. I found this project: http://bluez.sourceforge.net The FreeBSD mailing archives lead me to this link, but on this site it talks of Linux only, and i cannot compile it on FreeBSD =( The bluetooth solution seems smarter to me, and i'd love to see it work on my fav OS, as i can plug it out and carry it around in my pocket, use it with cellular phones, notebooks, other computers etc, so i would try this if bluetooth is supported at least in a basic manner.
