I saw your question the first time. I answered it. Simply reposting your query (three times in succession) does *not* make me inclined to help you any more. However, I will repeat again what you need to know: 1. Make sure you are running courier-imap-4.x with courier-authlib-0.5x. If you are not, then upgrade. If you built from ports, then upgrade your ports collection first if you need to. Follow the instructions in the FreeBSD handbook to do that. 2. Next, follow the instructions for debugging courier authentication here: http://www.courier-mta.org/authlib/README.authdebug.html Make sure you implement the part which tells you to make sure you are logging syslog messages at 'debug' level. Under FreeBSD these messages usually end up in /var/log/debug.log 3. You will get detailled information in those logs showing exactly how the mysql connection is made, the query sent, and the response returned. 4. When you have all of that, post here again. Until then, please ask someone else for help (or pay a consultant to help you) Brian. P.S. There is also good advice at http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html If the answer you got before was in any way incomplete or not understandable, then say what you tried, what was missing, or what you didn't understand. If you just blindly repost, you can expect a blunt rebuttal. ___ freebsd-questions@freebsd.org mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-questions To unsubscribe, send any mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

This implies you're looking in an old authdaemonrc. mysql user
Hi everyone, I maybe didn't see something, for sure it's a dumb problem I installed MySQL 4.0.20 from sources downloaded on MySQL website and then I checked before adding my mysql user on the box if there was one I never installed MySQL before and I already have a mysql user but I don't know his password. What should I do ? Uninstall / ReInstall MySQL ? Delete user mysql and create another one ? or is there an obvious first password to change I didn't get ? I'm a little bit lost there... even if it's not an obligation to have this user named mysql, it's easy to use everyday! Thanks. razor. ___ [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-questions To unsubscribe, send any mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I'm a little bit lost there... even if it's not an obligation to have this user named mysql, it's easy to use everyday! A mysql user will be created if you install mysql (any version) from ports. Even if you are strange enough to decide not to use ports, the way the mysql user is set up by the port would be a good thing to copy: mysql:*:88:88::0:0:MySQL Daemon:/var/db/mysql:/sbin/nologin Where UID 88 and group 88 are reserved for MySQL: http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/porters-handbook/dads-uid.html This account is designed to be the owner of the MySQL processes and nothing more. Specifically, it has a locked password (the '*' in the second field) and the shell set to /sbin/nologin -- a small program that prints This account is currently not available. and exits immediately. The home directory shown (/var/db/mysql) is the default, and the location where MySQL keeps its data files. You can override that when installing the port. Note that you never need to login as the mysql user. MySQL has it's own set of user IDs and it's own passwords /within/ the database which are separate from the passwd database on your server. Thanks everyone... ;) Next time I'll use the ports. seems way easier (and originally that was the reason I choose FreeBSD over Linux! :S ) - Original Message - From: Matthew Seaman [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: RazorOnFreeBSD [EMAIL PROTECTED] Cc: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, June 08, 2004 11:42 PM Subject: Re: mysql user ___ [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-questions To unsubscribe, send any mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Users mySQL User
Hi, I have installed mySQL-Server on my freeBSD 4.8, and now I want to set it up. I can connect to the database with [EMAIL PROTECTED] and the according password, but I would like to add another user, which would then only be used to connect to the database server. Does this need to be another user on my system, or just an internal mySQL User? Any hints on how to set this up? Re: Users mySQL User
Holgar, No. MySQL supports users through the database manager itself. Once MySQL is running on the system you can add users to the user table found in the mysql database. Remember to 'flush privileges' once this is done to make the changes apply. It would also be a really good idea to think/learn about this process before implementing a production level system using this setup. eg: -- Checking out the MySQL documentation at http://www.mysql.com/, a sample of this: http://www.mysql.com/doc/en/General_security.html -- Planning 'how' your databases will work as far as access privileges.
