RE: working now: freebsd-update to FreeBSD 11.0-RC3 then kernel compile fails In function `iflib_legacy_setup'

2016-09-18 Thread Kim Culhan
Attempted to isolate the problem, compiled a GENERIC kernel with nothing
added,
with no problem.

Then with only pf added and then with pf and altq added and still no
compile problem.

Did not reboot the machine any more between these trials so I think the
update
process was good, do not know what the difference is.

Sorry for the noise.

Can you try re-scanning for devices (via the Options screen) -
sysinstall can fail to detect USB disks the first time around.

Thanks Bruce worked fine.

Hitting space on Re-scan devices didn't appear to have any effect but
hitting a space on
Media Type allowed choosing USB.

Does the port compile?

This is Asterisk HEAD

I've tried setting several memory parameters to unlimited but this did not work.

Also ran the configure script with the --with-low-memory flag but this does not
help either.

Greetings -stable list

Running 6.1-STABLE on a Supermicro P8SCT motherboard with a

The machine hangs during the boot countdown about 50% of the time.

This situation may be similar to kern/90086 and i386/93762

The P8SCT is supplied on recent Supermicro servers with the
Intel 775-socket P4.

Any help would be very greatly appreciated

 Hello,

I have a problem which I have found out from mailing lists that some
other people had. However there is no clear solution.

The CPUTYPE=athlon-xp in make.conf breaks /boot/loader that system
instant reboots. I am using 6-stable and from what I can see the problem
goes back till about 5.3... Sometime between Oct 12-15, 2005

I don't propose this as a solution, but as far as I know, the best
 practice is:

 CPUTYPE?=athlon-xp

Does anyone know if this improves performance on an ahtlon-xp ?

Re: serial console installation of 6.1-BETA4

2006-04-09 Thread Kim Culhan
From some recent research into serial console for use on 6.1-PRERELEASE
the best method was to create a boot.config file in the root directory:

/boot.config

with one line containing just:

-P

This produces a console on both the internal console as well as on the
serial port.

Hope this helps

Re: -stable make world: ERROR: Required audit group is missing, see /usr/src/UPDATING

2006-03-11 Thread Kim Culhan
Thanks muchly to Scott, Torfinn and Patrick for the quick replies.

This machine was running:

6.1-PRERELEASE FreeBSD 6.1-PRERELEASE #0: Sun Feb 12 11:37:04 EST 2006

Since it was this new, it was updated with a make world and the error did not
appear in the process where I first thought it did -at link time for sshd..

It appeared at the end of the make world, which resembled more closely
the output of buildworld fwiw -I'll go add the group now :)

6.0-STABLE can't see floppy drive for KLD loading

2005-12-29 Thread Kim Culhan
Trying to install 6.0-STABLE on a Supermicro 5014C-MT server with
a P8SCT motherboard.

Also installed is a 3Ware 9550SX sata raid controller.

The latest 6.0-STABLE snap from 12-08-05 does not have the version
of the TWA driver which supports the 9550SX so it would be necessary to
kldload the binary, available from the 3Ware web site.

Running sysinstall and navigating to Configure--Load KLD
the installation fails as it complains: Cant find the floopy

The hardware appears to be good as it is possible to boot a dos floppy.

Have not been successful finding a more recent snap.. the changes for the
9550SX controller were about a day late to be included in the 12-08 snap :(

Any info in greatly appreciated

tnx

The zaptel drivers are working fine on 6, check the archives of the

The latest asterisk from CVS HEAD compiles and runs very well on

Stable Worldstones - Intel P4 vs AMD

2005-11-27 Thread Kim Culhan
Running -Stable make world with recent Intel and AMD hardware
yielded some interesting results.

One machine:

CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3200+ (2010.31-MHz 686-class CPU)
Origin = AuthenticAMD  Id = 0x20ff0  Stepping = 0

Other machine:

CPU: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.60GHz (3600.12-MHz 686-class CPU)
Origin = GenuineIntel  Id = 0xf34  Stepping = 4

The Intel machine had hyperthreading disabled in the bios.

kernel config for both machines was GENERIC

Running 'make world' several times on FreeBSD 6.0-STABLE from
11-26-05 a couple of representative timings were:

AMD Athlon 64

45:42

45:19

Intel P4

55:22

54:57

Are there any optimizations for the P4 which might be added to the GENERIC
kernel config to improve the performance ?

Let us have a look at /etc/make.conf. BTW, my *personal* opinion is AMD
implements much better pipelining and concurrent processing compared to
the Intel platform. So what you see is not something entirely unexpected.

No /etc/make.conf in either case

sysinstall inop on on 5.3-stable jail virtual machine

2004-12-19 Thread Kim Culhan

Running 5.3-STABLE of 12-15.

Attempting to run sysinstall from a virtual machine created using
jail.

When choosing an installtion media of FTP, then an FTP site,
an ascii box appears: No network devices available!

The network access for the virtual machine appears normal in
every other way; ifconfig returns what you would expect,
ftp and ssh work normally.

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated..
