I would be happy to HELP whoever wants to add FAT32 to freedos

I tried to hack around but my little experience in C is too far away,
I won't be able to do something here.
Sorry.

 I've found norton 4 on adbandonedware site , but don't support fat32.
Dr dos undelete don't work (no memory massage and hangup!)
I supposte the best solution is the upgrade of freedos undelete with fat32
 support.
 Someone want to try?

Re: [Freedos-user] Fresh ClamAV/DJGPP Port

2008-01-27 Thread Fabien Meghazi
kinds of archives. Because of my lack of internet connectivity,
freshclam is untested and I would appreciate testers. If anyone has
internet working with FreeDOS, simply use fdpkg to install clamavx.zip
and run freshclam. It should automatically find its configuration
file and download the latest database.

I installed successfully clamav (I used the package of Mateusz Viste)
I've got an internet connection working on my dos freedos box.
I tried to use freshcla.exe but it fires up an error :

Can't parse the config file /dev/env/DOSDIR/bin/clamd.conf

I ran the command in c:\fdos\bin\

Another strange thing is that sometimes it can't load the the
dictionary, sometimes it can.
Check this screenshot (500Ko - sorry)
http://www.amigrave.com/upload/posts/freedos/clamscan.jpg

Also, I would like some input.
Should a recent virus database be included in the package, or should
this be left to the user to download?

It think that a virus database should be available, either in the
program package or better in a seperate package. But I think a lot of
people who don't have an internet connection available freedos will be
happy to have a database available. And those persons using freedos in
order to run their old programs/games/demos don't really care about
last viruses, they just want to check their files for eventual old
viruses. Now if they download warez on the net, that's another story.

Can you try it with DOSLFN loaded? Also, is DOSDIR set to c:\fdos?

DOSLFN is always loaded on my box.

yes, DOSDIR is set to c:\fdos

In YOUR archive, does the freshclam executable is called FRESHCLA.EXE
or FRESHCLAM.EXE ?

 Try using --config-file=c:/fdos/bin/freshcla[m].conf and --datadir=c:/fdos/bin

  freshclam.exe

I think I'm going to try with your package instead of Mateusz Viste's one.

[Freedos-user] fdapm speed# not working for me

2008-01-26 Thread Fabien Meghazi
Hi all,

I would like to know what could be the reasons why fdapm speed# won't
work for me ?
Is it a bios problem ? Should I change something in bios settings ?

I really need to slow down my cpu for some old softwares, and I first
tried software based cpu killer (residents) such as moslo, ... but
they suck. The slow down is not smooth wit graphic based programs such
as demos or games that are not using vertical retrace to time their
animations.

Anyway, I heard about fdapm speed's parameter and I was just like :
Woohh ! Just what I need for my dissection lab tomorrow !

So I played a little with fdapm speed1-8 and it just have no effect
! Or if there's an effect, it's unnoticeable.

Could someone tell me why is that ?

My mobo is an Asus P3B-F with 450Mhz Pentium III

[Freedos-user] Keyboard Numpad - Dot giving a comma (Keyboard variant ?)

Hello again !

I use keyb be in my autoexec.bat but it produce a comma instead of a

the key between 0 and enter on the numpad of a classic extendend

Is it a keyboard variant ? How can I fix this ?

I tried to play with keyb options such as

keyb be /D.

I also messed up with codepages without result.

Can someone help me ?

[Freedos-user] doslfn and 4dos

2008-01-19 Thread Fabien Meghazi
Hi all,

I've got doslfn loaded in autoexec.bat. I can see long filenames in
volkov commander.
In 4dos, when doing a dir, I see the 8.3 file name, I can cd to this
dir, and when done,
I see the long directory name in the prompt.

My problem is that if I create a long directory name in volkov
commander and copy files in the directory,
I can't see those files in 4dos.

Eg:

In volkov commander I create directory c:\TestingTest and I copy some
files in this directory.
I quit volkov commander and return in 4dos.

In 4dos, dir returns :

TESTIN~1

I do cd TESTIN~1

The 4dos prompt is : c:\TESTINGTEST

I do dir and see 0 bytes in 0 files.

Is there a way to make doslfn play nice with 4dos or configure 4dos in
order to support correctly long file names ?

My partition is FAT32
I use the freedos 4dos package from 1.0

[Freedos-user] Network sharing

2008-01-19 Thread Fabien Meghazi
Yeah !

At last ! I found the correct packet driver for my network card ! Yeepee !
I've got wattcp working ok. I can use ssh, lynx, ...

Now, my goal is to share files easily between my file server and my
brand new freedos station.
On my file server I have samba running, also nfs, and I can put an ftp server.
I red the freedos networking howto and I googled a lot but I was
unable to find a suitable solution yet.
Here are my options (in preference order) and my failures :

1) NFS :
The best for me would be to mount a nfs share to a drive letter on my
dos station.
It would be the ideal solution but I could not find an nfs client so far.
Does someone knows if it exists ?

2) SMB :
I tried the msclient with no luck.
Besides, I heard it uses a lot of memory and I guess it could be a
nightmare to setup
with the different smb versions out there. So I dropped this option.

3) RSYNC (over ssh ?) :
Rsync could be cool, even if I don't use it to browse files on my file
server, I could use it
to make backups of my dos station to my file server.
Has rsync been ported to dos ?

4) HTTP:
This is what I currently use, I drop some files on the /var/www of my
file server and I fetch them
with lynx on my dos box or with wget. Of course I would like a better solution.

5) FTP :
Well I've got an ftp client on my dos station but no gui. My goal is
to have an easy way to browse
files on my file server, not by using an ftp command line driven
client. Is there any ftp client with a
file commander like gui ?

6) Any suggestion ?

Thanks !

There is Tsoft's NFS client at http://www.rawbandwidth.com/software/.

I tried it and it didn't worked for me. But I'll give it one more try
becaus I don't even remember what wasn't working.

 while you can't mount it
 ssh2dos does have a scp/sftp client:
 http://ufpr.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/sshdos/ssh2021b.zip

Oh yeah ! Forgot to mention this.
I already tried the scp2dos bundled with feedos 1.0 and I always had
this protocol error : expected control record

But with the link you sent me (a newer version) it's working ok !

It's not the ideal solution I'm searching for but it's far better than http ;-)

Thanks !

Ok, just tried it again and here's the problem :

I first load the driver :

$ nfsdrvr

then I type :

$ mount 192.168.0.1:/my_share

and it says :

Mounting 192.168.0.1:/my_share on F: (192.168.0.1)

then it asks my login password and it fails with this message :

get_port: error during portmapper lookup for pcnfsdv2 service.
get_port: error during portmapper lookup for pcnfsdv1 service.

Any idea ?
