Re: [Freedos-user] Problems with floppy disk installation
I gave up on installing freedos. I am waiting for someone to fix the installer cd iso. JeffM. wrote: Yes, I also had problems installing service release 2 to hd with the cd. It would hang after the first or second screen (I don't remember 100%, sorry). Never got to the graphical installer at any rate. I had to go back and install sr1. I wonder if it has anything to do with the unstable kernel. Nonetheless, it was a surprising disappointment after installing so many of the last versions flawlessly on this hardware. Jeff M. NOTE: no matter what I did to install VIM it didn't work And it hung up the install process. Skip it copy the file later. I know this probably isn't much help. LOL. Good luck! I am installing onto a Toshiba Libretto 110CT which only has a floppy drive attachment. The boot disk works just fine and it even went so far as to properly format the hard drive and create a DOS partition. It also seems to have done a proper installation of a barebones bootable DOS on the hard drive. So far, so good. However, running the installer on the boot disk (which will presumably prompt for the other installer disks so I can get more robust functionality) produces a full page of text that goes by far too quickly to read. The following screen says that some files are missing and aborts the installation. Presumably the installer is referring to itself, not my hard drive. Anyone have any ideas, or is the current floppy installer beta known to have this issue? Re: [Freedos-user] Problem with bad or missing command interpreter
I had a problem last night with MS-DOS which yours is similar to. I had added a line of code to the config.sys file which conflicted with the last line in the config.sys file, which involved device drivers for cd players. The command.com was not loaded on the next restart. I kept entering c:\command.com until the command prompt appeared. Then I kept entering 'edit config.sys' to get access to the config file. The first time config.sys loaded it was empty. So, I rebooted and started over. On the second reboot, I got the command prompt to load rather easily (3 tries) and the config.sys file loaded properly. I removed the bad line of code and rebooted. All was well after that. Charlie Chan = Mark Junker wrote: Hi, I tried to install FreeDOS Beta 9 SR 2 and I ran into the problem that I got the message Bad or missing command interpreter when I try to boot from HDD after the installation. There are two interesting things: 1. The message appears before (!) I can use the configuration menu (in FDCONFIG.SYS) 2. The problem disappears when I insert the disk I created from fdos1440.img (but I definately boot from HDD) It'd be nice if I'd be able to use FreeDOS without the floppy disk. I have a single HDD in my PC and I tried to create both a FAT16 and a FAT32 partition but the effect remains the same. Re: [Freedos-user] DOS File Extensions
The extension convert to: Net.1x_ = Net.exe NetBeu.do_ = NetBeu.dos Redir.2x_ = redir.exe 8514.vi_ = 8514.bin This information allowed me to install the Supplement 6.22 files using expand which allowed me to get the dosshell. I got the Supplement files from a MS download. My next problem is to install the network files needed for network access and put them in the correct directory.
