Re: [Freedos-user] Installed Freedos at home

2008-05-21 Thread rfryer
Hi
from memory try :

mkdir,creates a directory
chdir,moves to a directory
rmdir,deletes a directory

directory is either dskdrv:\name\...\name or .\name\...\name first is called
absolute reference and
last is called relative reference, then there is . which is current directory.

to refer to a file append \filename.ext to directory specifier in either form.

try to see if help command informative

I installed Freedos at home, amazingly, without
messing up my PC. I had an NTFS partition (without
Windows) that had to be converted to FAT32 (it took
more than an hour, the rest went smoothly).
Now Ubuntu GRUB loads all the OSes, including
Freedos. It was easy to put programs onto the Freedos
partition from under Ubuntu but I cannot open the
 directories that I put there.
Please tell me with what command I can open the
directories. They are just there on the partition.
Running programs is easy, I just type the name of the
program at the command prompt and then press enter.
Please send info about a comprehensive DOS tutorial.

 Alex

[Freedos-user] Dos extender : Read Old AT interface disk

2008-05-20 Thread rfryer
Hi you lot
About 15 years ago I wrote but did not get to quite assemble a dos extender to
support 4GB
segments with a 386 compiler that supported the the old (RIP) MS-DOS but
generated segment
selectors, instead of addresses's,ie a flat memory model, switching at the
MS-DOS API.
Windows came out and 386emu.exe,so i lost interest.
I can get it finished my self,it will need migrating across to a new 486
compiler,old compiler
unsupported now,but is installed on disk, distrubution disk lost.
Is this of any interest to the Free-dos community?
If so I need to get a 386 AT AT interface hard disk read, and copy to a CD,have
the cyl,hd,sctr,info.
Can any body help in this matter, can ship hard disk to anywhere reasonable.
If this can be done I can finish it of and voila a freedos application address
space of 4GB if a
compiler can be provided that that generates segment selectors,ie protected
mode code.

I think there should be a direct link to the ISO right from the

Did you try to right click and choose save-as? that way web
browser wont try to display it on screen.

A free software project can only do so much and is only as good

That said, I think download tips should be on

Gents, I spent the day trying to figure out how to make FreeDos
 work on
my Windows XP computer. NO luck. I could not even figure out how
 to
download the fdfullcd.iso file. When I clicked on it, it just
 showed a
bunch of text and high/low bit characters. Why put so much
 effort into a
project that the regular person can't make work? George

This is why I ordered my copy from http://linuxcdmall.com/.
