Create a text file in a text editor (eg, emacs, gedit, etc). Do not do this on a windows machine. Thanks Doug I created a file using gedit but I can't save it on the usr/local/freesurfer folder. It says I don't have the permissions necessary to save the file. How did FS get there in the first place? If you installed it, then you must have permission. I did! it all went well until installing it... I couldn't do the setenv FREESURFER_HOME /usr/local/freesurfer so I though I needed the license... and got stuck and still stuck... :) Now that I am looking at the other folders, I see that some else had already installed freesurfer in the downloads folder... that might be causing trouble. The freesurfer folder there has a lock on it... I can't trash or move it, maybe I should uninstall everything and start over? How do I uninstall free surfer? Just delete it. Or you can install it in someplace you do have control over. Create a text file in a text editor (eg, emacs, gedit, etc). Do not do this on a windows machine.
