Re: connecting a printer
Thanks for those clearly written, step by step instructions, Bruce. Larry On Feb 27, 2010, at 7:29 AM, Lawrence David Eden wrote: Greetings, I have an Intel MacBook running 10.5 at one of my schools and I want to connect an old HP Photosmart 1115 printer. The problem is HP no longer supports this 9 year old model and the last driver they made for the 1115 only works up to OS X (10.4x). Because of the outdated driver, I can't get the printer to work. I can see the printer in my System Prefs/printers, but the Mac wants me to choose a driver. Is there a way around the problem? You can try this: (it may or may not work) Go here http://sourceforge.net/projects/hplip/ and download the package. Double-click on it to ungzip/untar it. Go into the resulting folder and find the PPD folder. in there open the hpcups folder. Find the file hp-psc_1500_series.ppd.gz, drag it to your desktop or someplace else you can find it easily. Double click on that file to ungzip it. Back in system preferences, select the HP printer, and when it asks for a driver, select 'Other'. Navigate to the ppd file you just uncompressed and select it. See if it works. It may not support all the printing functions, and scanning and faxing won't be supported but you'll be able to print if it works. -- Bruce Johnson Wherever you go, there you are B. OS 9 boot CD
Hello. I have a G4 MDD 1.25 with FW400 and I have been looking for a long time for the original OS 9 CD that came with this computer. I have tried many different OS 9 versions but for this G4, it has to have the exact CD's that came with it to make it boot. Any help is greatly appreciated if you have this exact model. thanks __ Sig: Specs: G4 MDD 1.25 [FW400,running 10.4 Tiger Pittsburgh, PA 15237 alternate e-mail: rhfr...@gmail.com ebay name: ray78 -- You received this message because you are a member of G-Group, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs. Re: OS 9 boot CD
I think Apple themselves will work with you on this and let you buy a copy, if you call them @ 1-800-MY-Apple. You will need to give them the MDD's serial #. Also, I thought some people on these threads mentioned that the eMac Mac OS 9.2.2 install worked for the MDD. Though if you install it you may need to boot disabling extensions the first time to disable a couple for proper setup of Mac OS 9 native booting as some Classic support extensions conflict with booting Mac OS 9 properly(?) Daisy Chaining FireWire 400 Devices?
I have 3 FireWire 400 Devices that I'm considering daisy chaining: Two HDs and an optical drive. Are there any benefits, considerations, boot-ability (on the fw400 devices) and what-not I don't know about, because I don't know about daisy chaining other than hooking up a bunch of devices. Pros and cons, please? FWIW, I'll probably get another FW drive if I don't get OWC's Mercury Elite Qx2 4-Bay to make things simpler and easier with HDD drives. For now, I'm considering daisy chaining.
