Re: Putting SATA drive into PM Mirrored Door G4/1.42
I believe the easy workaround is to use the special G4 firmware if you're using a G4 PPC Mac? I would like to confirm the FirmTek SeriTek SATA card firmware retrograde for G4. I recently purchased and installed a SeriTek 1S2 from OWC for my MDD Dual 867. The system would boot and work, but would eventually hang with a spinning ball, regardless of the Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible box being checked or unchecked. Checking with FirmTek for possible firmware issues I discovered the statement below, which they confirmed via e-mail. I installed the suggested firmware version and have had no more issues. You'll need to boot from a drive -not- attached to the SeriTek card to install the firmware. Here is the statement from FirmTek and link for the firmware: PowerMac G4 Firmware PowerMac G4 users should install firmware version 5.1.3 found below. Version 5.1.3 is compatible with Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5 and will work better with PowerMac G4 configurations. Users with multiple FirmTek cards mounted in a single computer must install the same firmware version on all cards to avoid conflicts. When modifying firmware it is best to only have a single FirmTek card installed in the computer. PowerMac G4 Sawtooth - dual video
Hello everyone, I have a 450 MHz PowerMac G4 Sawtooth running OS X 10.4.11 with a (stock?) ATI Rage 128 Pro 16 MB (AGP), and I was wondering if it is possible to use two monitors on this computer. There is a DVI port on the card, and a VGA port as well. I have never tried using multiple monitors until recently. I have a Dell 17 with a VGA input and another Dell UltraSharp 17 with a DVI input. I tried hooking both up to the computer, but only the DVI UltraSharp would display picture. The other display would stay black with the amber LED lit up. I tried looking in the Display system preferences, but could not find the monitors tab. I have run both monitors successfully on my PowerBook G4 800 MHz as a second display. Also the VGA display works perfectly without any other monitor hooked up. Another question I have out of curiosity is this. When I bought the system a few years back, it came with an ATI Rage (version unknown) PCI video card in one of the slots. When I first plugged it in and turned it on, I mistook the VGA port on the bottom PCI Rage for the main one higher up. I turned it on, and the output was corrupted (could hardly see what was going on). I took a closer look, saw the AGP card's port, and used that. It worked fine, so I just pulled the PCI card out and forgot about it. This recent monitor issue has got me thinking: Is it possible that the second PCI video card could've worked with another monitor, bringing the maximum count to three? It's just a curious thought. Thank you for any advice in advance. Re: PowerMac G4 Sawtooth - dual video
The Rage 128 does not support two monitors even though it has two ports. I was trying to do this the ther day on my DA with a Rage 128. There should be no problem with using a PCi card in addition to the 128 AGP though.
