My fax just 'beeped' every few seconds, but there was no whining 'faxing' sound. It appears to be dialing and completing the call, and it also appears to be trying to connect because of the beeps. It likely doesn't make the whining fax sound because it's not getting any acknowledgement from the beeps that you have another fax machine on the receiving end, which you don't in your test. This would lead one to the conclusion that perhaps the FAX #'s you're dialing are no longer valid and that your Mac is actually working properly, it's just that there's no FAX machine or FAX computer on the receiving end? Have you tried to verify that the receiving end is working properly? You said you have a dedicated line so just try to fax to any number in ear shot it will ring even though it's not a FAX machine. Re: I need networking help
If CCC doesn't work for you, perhaps Super Duper will. . . Just a thought. If you've never taken a Clamshell apart before, I would tell you it's somewhat tedious, but really not that hard. You need some small screwdrivers (Phillips, flat-head, Torx T8), and good instructions. Go to: http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repair/Installing-iBook-G3-Clamshell-Hard-Drive-Replacement/116/1 . This will take you step by step. I printed up the instructions and taped the screws to the applicable section of each sheet. It'll take you about 45 - 60 minutes to get the thing apart (less after you know what you're doing. . .). It's not hard, just a bit of a pain in the patoot. POOCH Clustering Question
Dear G3-5 List: I know that the clustering app POOCH is free for up to four nodes. My question is: can I hook up four dual-processor G5s of differing speeds and RAM capacities (from 2.3GHz to 2.7GHz and from 1GB to 8GB) and have them run smoothly? Re: USB audio And analog Audio at the same time?
I think you can do thi's with the Audio MIDI Utility. It's in the Utilities folder. You just create an aggregate device using both the iMic and built in analog output, and select the aggregate device in the sound pane of System Preferences. Chance Jeffrey Engle wrote: I'd like to use the iMic for the sub-woofer and the analog 1/8 mini for my powered speakers. right now I have a Y-cable on that iMic and for some reason I'm losing a lot of the Line-level volume this way? Question: Is there a piece of software out there that will allow multiple audio output from my mac mini so that I can use both USB and Anolog audio at the same time? Re: More power to keyboard/mouse please!

Video works great, but keyboard/mouse didn't have the power it needed... A 6' extension cable is about all that works before needing a powered hub. I then used a USB 2.0 7 port hub at the MDD end to boost power, which, by the way works great. here's the question: has anybody on the list tried using one of those dual USB connections to provide extra power instead of the USB hub? you know, like the usb cables you sometimes get when you buy a 2.5 external hard drive? to provide power to bigger hard drives installed into that 2.5 USB enclosure? Not sure how that would work. You'd be stealing, or at least trying to steal, extra power from the bus that already can't handle the load of the longer cable run and the devices connected. Either use a shorter extension, or a powered hub. - Dan. -- - Psychoceramic Emeritus; South Jersey, USA, Earth. -- You received this message because you are a member of G-Group, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs. Make sure your CD is of the type that is supported by the drive... And if all else fails, go find another drive. If you're using it in OS X, pretty much any DVD +/- r/rw drive on the market works. See here: http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=BLK-GH22LP20-DOcat=DVD $27 for a 20x DVD -/+ r/rw DL with lightscribe is a damned good deal, and if you're using anything newer than 10.3 it'll work out of the box, otherwise use Patchburn. Personally I wouldn't waste the money on a used optical drive. Geeks also has a Samsung drive that I know for a FACT (because it's installed in one of my Macs) works perfectly well out of the box in 10.5 and 10.6 for a dollar more. Since CD's and DVD's use different lasers inside the mechanism, it's entirely possible for drive to read DVD's just fine and have problems with CD's (or vice versa)...this was a common failure mode on the original LG drives shipped with the Pismo, for instance, and I've had it happen to standalone players, as well. -- Bruce Johnson University of Arizona College of Pharmacy Information Technology Group Institutions do not have opinions, merely customs -- You received this message because you are a member of G-Group, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs.
