I believe we discussed this recently. The QS has no CPU temp unless
you use a 3rd party CPU upgrade such as Sonnet.

This software will return the CPU temperature only if the CPU was built with a
sensor contained therein.

It can't report a sensor reading if there is no sensor there.

Hello All,

Baby, dual 2.5 Ghz, G5, 4 GB RAM, 1.2 TB Memory, running OS 10.5.8 and
Mozilla 3.6.6, has been percolating nicely now for a couple of years,
but Monday something weird happened ... at least weird to me.

I refreshed my home page on Mozilla ... and when it reappeared the page
was smaller. I went into view and zoomed in sufficiently for my needs
but when I surfed away and came back I had to change the view again ...
and again ... and again! Now this has rapidly become a chore for old eyes!!

Restarting the computer doesn't change anything. I can receive faxes

It appears to be dialing and completing the call, and it also appears to be

you have another fax machine on the receiving end, which you don't in your

dialing are no longer valid and that your Mac is actually working properly,
it's just that there's no FAX machine or FAX computer on the receiving end?
Have you tried to verify that the receiving end is working properly?

You said you have a dedicated line so just try to fax to any number  in ear

USB audio And analog Audio at the same time?

2010-06-30 Thread Jeffrey Engle
I'd like to use the iMic for the sub-woofer and the analog 1/8 mini
for my powered speakers. right now I have a Y-cable on that iMic and
for some reason I'm losing a lot of the Line-level volume this way?

Question:
Is there a piece of software out there that will allow multiple audio
output from my mac mini so that I can use both USB and Anolog audio
at the same time?

Assuming you're using 10.5 ...

Can you use an iMic as an Audio Output?

If so, could you possibly use Soundflower to accomplish this mixer
type or audio channeling application, maybe in conjunction with Audio
MIDI Setup? (not sure):

POOCH Clustering Question

2010-06-30 Thread Illirik Smirnov
Dear G3-5 List:

I know that the clustering app POOCH is free for up to four nodes. My
question is: can I hook up four dual-processor G5s of differing speeds and
RAM capacities (from 2.3GHz to 2.7GHz and from 1GB to 8GB) and have them run
smoothly?

Sent from a computer running either the SPARC, Itanium, or PowerPC

2010-06-30 Thread Chance Reecher
I think you can do thi's with the Audio MIDI Utility. It's in the
Utilities folder. You just create an aggregate device using both the
iMic and built in analog output, and select the aggregate device in the
sound pane of System Preferences.

No experience with it but it certainly looks like it from their web site.

If it runs ok on a G4 it will certainly run ok on the G5's.

Not sure how that would work. You'd be stealing, or at least trying
to steal, extra power from the bus that already can't handle the load
of the longer cable run and the devices connected.

Either use a shorter extension, or a powered hub.

Check its entry in System Profiler - make sure it's recognized and

Make sure it works with a DVD.

And if all else fails, go find another drive. If you're using it in OS X,
pretty much any DVD +/- r/rw drive on the market works. See here:
http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=BLK-GH22LP20-DOcat=DVD $27 for a 20x
DVD -/+ r/rw DL with lightscribe is a damned good deal, and if you're using
anything newer than 10.3 it'll work out of the box, otherwise use Patchburn.
Personally I wouldn't waste the money on a used optical drive.

Geeks also has a Samsung drive that I know for a FACT (because it's installed
in one of my Macs) works perfectly well out of the box in 10.5 and 10.6 for a
dollar more.

Since CD's and DVD's use different lasers inside the mechanism, it's entirely
possible for drive to read DVD's just fine and have problems with CD's (or
vice versa)...this was a common failure mode on the original LG drives shipped
with the Pismo, for instance, and I've had it happen to standalone players, as
well.
