 Question: I've got a QS2002 800Mhz machine with a bad IDE controller.
I put in a VTS Ultra/Tek 66 and now I am able to boot and the machine
doesn't erratically hang up any longer. Do you think your kext will
work with the Ultra/TEK 66 to get large hdd support?

 ref: I think it's
 Vendor ID: Ox105A=4186
 DeviceID: 0x4D38=19768
 Revision ID=1
PDC 20262 and Cardvendor ID is 105A

 ref:
 http://eshop.macsales.com/Reviews/Framework.cfm?page=/Hard_Drives/vstultrat
 ek/VSTUltra.html http://www.barefeats.com/hard8.html

Sorry, I wasn't able to find which IDE chip is used on the VST UltraTek ATA/66
card or which driver it uses.

My driver is merely a very simple patch for the original Apple KeyLargoATA
driver, which controls the KeyLargo IDE chip used in Power Macs from the G4
AGP to the G4 MDD.
Thus, it only works for KeyLargo chips.

The big driver support is not real. It is limited in such way, that your first
partition(s), containing the OS, must be exactly 128 GB large. The, what I
call: limited big drive support simply enables you create another partition
that starts behind the first 128 GB and that is usable once Mac OS X has
started. It is for your data only.

Native big drive support starts with the QS2002.

Cheers,
Andreas aka Mac User #330250

QS 733 freezes

2011-04-18 Thread shirley allan
Our BW 450 (Tiger) could do everything we needed until
u-tube. We recently got a QS 733 with 512 ram, which should be fast enough.

Unfortunately, when we got the QS home we discovered that it, freezes anywhere
between
30 seconds to five minutes of operation (whenever the machine warms up?)

Advice on what to check, replace or fix first?

RAM.

You might try reseating it, after blowing out the dust, and see if
that helps.

If there are 2 or more sticks, you might try running with 1, then the
other.

A decent RAM check app is memtest which is part of the applejack
program, a good one to have installed and use.

Reattaching the ATA/IDE cable can help also, making sure no pins are
bent. Is the hard drive relatively new? or perhaps, failing?

Re: QS 733 freezes

2011-04-18 Thread Albert Carter
First of all as has been discussed several times on this list I highly
doubt a QS 733 is going to be fast enough to run YouTube. I think everyone has
clearly voiced YouTube is poor at best on any G4 machine. I need to test this
out I have QS Dual 1 Ghz that I would like to try this on.

For the freezing its either a RAM or a overheating problem. I suggest
opening it up and verifying that it has the fans running when its powered on.
If it does I would check for RAM. First I would remove and reseat all the RAM
sticks.

I'm running rember to check RAM . Where would I find applejack? The
price of PC-133 RAM from MemoryX is a little
too high, is there another supplier recommended? Rember reported that
'All test passed' and then the QS immediately
froze after running 94 minutes from startup. Fans are working .
Reattaching the ATA/IDE cable can help also, making sure no pins are

I disconnected the cable to the CD, checked the pins on the HD. The HD
is a 40 G Barracuda - probably original to the machine. I reformed it
using the 450 and reinstalled a fresh copy of 10.4 when we got it.

Peter, I have NEVER modified in any way the SilverLight installer to make
 it
install on a Hackintosh. I've installed SilverLight on 7 different
Hackintosh systems, with NO modification. What system did you install on
 that required a modification?

Usually, I install applications on my Hacks using a USB flash drive. That
drive has an instance of the Silverlight which has already had the
installation_check module removed from the installer.

Hence, it is possible, even likely, that I have experienced one or even
several cases where such removal actually wasn't required.

drive and/or clone it back to his internal drive.) Then I drag/dropped
GLK's backed up files to the new external drive. Most of the files
(but not all) were locked, read only, with me as the owner. I had to
unlock, change ownership and then I could change folder color.
I don't think this answers cause. That is, I don't know what I could/
should have done to avoid the laborious file by file fix.
Fortunately, GLK doesn't have much on his drive.
Maybe it's the drag/drop file thing?

I think there's no BW INKET printer. They're all color (3, 4 or 6 colours
tanks).

If you only need BW printing, you'd be much better off with a laser
printer.
More reliable, ink (toner powder, actually) doesn't dry up when not
printing for a while, and way less expensive with consumable.

Do any of you use a Cannon printer is it good?
I have an old iP2000 (cheap) and I'm quite satisfied with it.
Good quality, fast, and cartridges are cheaper than Epson or HP equivalent
(let alone Lexmark's, that where crazily expensive)

So I'd advice staying with Canon.

Well, I suspect that Cliff is actually talking about Label colors, not folder
colors: control-click (or right-click if your mouse supports it) on the folder
and select a color from the Label menu item.

To color the actual folder, you need to have folder icons of different colors
handy, such as those here:

http://www.myappleguide.com/blogs/iphone-world/2224/colored-folder-icons-leopard
and change the icon by doing a Get Info on the icon file, selecting the icon,
copying it, doing a Get Info on the target folder, selecting the icon and
pasting it; same way it's worked since OS 7 or so...
